Info on Bards...Follow

#1 Nov 03 2005 at 12:31 PM Rating: Decent
im somewhat new to everquest and i am trying to decide which class to be. usually, i play healer types pretty well, and as for this game, i know for a fact that (due to compuer lag) i cannot be an upfront fighter type. i am intrigued by the bard type in this game and was wondering if anyone out there could give me some more detailed information as to how this class plays, as far as spells and songs. overall, i want a rather uncomplicated class to play that i can easily solo with, so if there any suggestions, that would be great...

you can also drop me an e-mail if youlike ^_^

THANKYOU!

Bards are a fun class to play, mainly due to the songs and multi-purpose abilities.

When you start your character, you will have a choice of Fighter, Scout, Mage, or Priest. Picking Scout will start you on the path to Bard.

Once you get to level 9, you must complete a quest to select what path you will follow. Your choices will be Predator, Bard, or Rogue. You will pick Bard.

A quick side note about these archtypes:
Predator leads to Ranger - master with a bow, or Assassin - master at rear attacks and stealth.
Bard leads to Troubador - happy songs to damage opponents or buff self and party, or Dirge - painful laments to torment your opponents.
Rogue leads to Brigand - uses fear and confusion against enemies, or Swashbuckler - dashing yet fast and deadly.

Once you get to level 19 you will complete another quest to select your final path and class. You will choose between Troubador (good) or Dirge (evil).

Although not famous for the best damage output, Bards are very good for party buffs to increase attack speed, health/power regen, damage mitigation, movement speed, and more. All this and they can still contribute nicely to DPS. Their damage abilities are in the form of songs instead of spells (same thing, just a different effect). For some of your battle songs, you will quickly and automatically pull out a musical instrument, strum or beat it out, and resume attacking. (again, same as casting a spell, but you don't wave your arms around like those sissy Conjurers)

They dual-wield weapons, one in each hand, which gives you the benefit of the stat boosting properties from both weapons.

I consider Bards to be a jack-of-all-trades, useful in many more instances than other classes.

I would take my Troubador out more, but he recently caught the crafting bug.

Good Luck :)

Just to add.

Troubs are not good, and dirges are not evil. They are both neutral so you can be either in either qeynos or freeport.

Our best damage is from our damage songs, they have had their cast time cut back, and are well worth casting.

Our primary function in groups is to buff, and we have more buffs then we have concentration, but that lowers our dps, and prevents us from using poisons.

Dirges do not help regenerate health, only troubs do. Dirges dont buff attack speed, but buff DPS. Dirges dont buff mitigation until the 50+ game, but we have a nice group melee avoidance buffs. Another difference between the two is dirges have a str and increase aggro target buff, while troubs have an ability to lower every non fighters aggro in group.

I'm digging the heck out of my bard. When they unlocked frogloks for us with the quest...I looked for a character that frogloks could become that I hadnt played before. I had a kerran paladin....gnome wizard...ratonga assassin...elven fury...Iksar zerker...dark elven inquisitor...and kerran shaman. My partner from EQ1 has a lvl 66 half-elven bard that she enjoys playing...and while I knew generally that EQ2 bards were not the same as in EQ1...I thought it might be a fun class for a new frog...hence Quoaker Spaniel was born. He is now lvl 30 and I have a hard time going back to my other toons to play for any length of time because I so enjoy lvling him. He can move around really fast...I've found as long as I keep my armor and weapons up to grade for my lvl he can solo pretty darn well. I group occasionally and add quite a bit to the overall power of the group. Those buff songs are pretty helpful. I try to keep all my songs/combat skills at least at adept 1 quality as soon as I get them. He is also my chief forager and getter of items to mail back to my room seller. I'm pretty happy with him to this point...and so far up to tier 4 zones he has performed as well or better then I could of hoped...we shall see how it goes as I move to tier 5 and beyond.
