List of racial traditions?Follow

#1 Oct 31 2005 at 11:06 PM Rating: Decent
To keep this shot, might anyone know of where i can get an up-to-date list of each race's traditions? the couple links I've found are either old/out of date or broken.

also, tho I realize it sounds like quite a noob request (sorry =P ), does anyone know where i can get an up-to-date list of race/class combo's? Allakhazam's website is a godsend when it does to just about any aspect of the game, but surprisingly it doesnt accurately list which races can go to which classes, etc. i.e. it lists what the official manual describes as each race's "traditional" role, but while a barbarian's traditional roles are listed as Fighter, Priest, they CAN also go Scout. Again, I appologize asking for what is probably right in front of me, but I'm not seeing any accurate lists.

Thanks in advance for any info/links/personal experience info to the info requested above.

To answer your second question, any race can be any class.

If I understand you right, you're talking about archtypes. In EQ2, when you get to level 9, you will pick a archtype specialty path to follow. At level 19, you will do it again to make your final choice. Unlike in FFXI where you can be a 20 Fighter and 5 Mage, here in EQ2 you are a 20 Fighter, no sub jobs.

The only traditional part of it is what the classes do:
Fighter = heavy armor (tank) with low DPS
Scout = medium armor and DPS
Mage = low armor with high DPS
Priest = healer with medium to heavy armor

For example: You start as a Fighter. At level 9, you have the choice of becoming a Warrior, Brawler, or Crusader. Let's say you pick Warrior. At level 19 you will get another and final choice of becoming a Berzerker or Guardian (because you picked Warrior before). You pick Berzerker, and now you will always be a 'Zerker.

You cannot undo your choice of archtypes once it's made, so choose carefully. Here's a breakdown of the different archtypes.

Again, race has nothing to do with the profession you get. There are different racial abilities that each race gets, but none are game-breakers.

An Ogre Warrior will do the same samage as a Gnome Warrior.

Any benefits from racial stats you get at early levels will quickly become overcome by stat-boosting gear. So in the long run, it doesn't matter what race you pick.

Now it becomes a decision of what kind of character do you want to be? A huge lumbering Ogre with a huge weapon, or a pig-tailed Elf with fast dual-wield? How about a sweet little female Gnome Necromancer that cackles wildly as her zombie pet devours the enemy's flesh?

The amazing part of this game is that any race can be any class. It is only limited by your imagination. The important thing is to have fun and enjoy the character you make. :)

Why do I get the feeling I still didn't answer the question?

There is one tiny catch in the "anyone can be anything" mantra..

Some sub-classes are limited to the good or evil side. For example, you can't be a ranger in Freeport... they are good only.

I haven't done the betrayal quest, but I thought it could be worked that you could pick up the class quest before completing the betrayal...just need to line it all up.

Is there absolutly NO WAY a citizen of Freeport (native or betrayed) can become a Ranger?

I could have sworn I've seen evil classes in Qeynos, but my congestion is fogging my brain. ...must...find...tissue...

..forgot to add...

When my Bard was up to select his level 20 class, I had the choice of Troubador or Dirge. I was standing in Qeynos and could have selected an "evil" class.

Since you only have to choose preditor at lvl 10, you could probably make your class selection in Freeport and then not betray. But if you betray, you are no longer a "citizen of Freeport" no?

As far as the sub-quest itself, the only guy who gives out the ranger quest is standing right near the docks in QH. I suppose that if you could get there and survive the visit you could get the updates in Antonica without too much trauma. The final test is an instanced zone in Qeynos Harbor so you would have to dodge the guards for that segment too.

Is it doable? Yes, I suppose it is not beyond the realm of possibility. But I wouldn't wanna be the one to try it!

BTW - there are also no Qeynos Assassins... but that is another tale...

Troubador and Dirge are both neutral and can be for either city. Seems a lot of people thing Dirge is evil, but they are neutral. The other neutral ones are Berzerker/Guardian, Warden/Fury, Troubador/Dirge, and Wizard/Warlock. Everything else is 1 city or the other I believe.

Qeynos only:
Paladin
Monk
Mystic
Templar
Ranger
Swashbuckler
Illusionist
Conjuror

Freeport only:
Shadowknight
Brawler
Defiler
Inquisitor
Assassin
Brigand
Coercer
Necromancer

Neutral:
Berzerker/Guardian
Warden/Fury
Troubador/Dirge
Wizard/Warlock

Each archetype has 1 class that has neutral subclasses. So, if you go Warrior, Druid, Bard, or Sorceror, your subclass choices are neutral in relation to city.

the reason I ask about race/subclass combo is basically to see my options in regards to being a ranger... I wanted to try a barbarian ranger, thinking it'd be something different, but i didnt find out till lvl 9 that a barbarian can go only rogue (in terms of being a scout, thus ruling out the possibility of becoming a ranger). I know I've seen Dark Elf rangers (strange to me...), which is why I was wondering if there was a current list of all race/subclass combo's. BUT...I guess one roundabout solution is just do some /who blah and see all the different races per class I chose.

So that basically solves the first problem, but me being real picky, I'd ideally like to see what racial traditions would be going along with my racial choice...which in turn still leaves my first question open. Anyone know of a website that lists the racial traditions? Hell, for that matter does anyone know if the Prima's EQ2 guide book is accurate in terms of racial traditions? I'm assuming it does list them, tho my bet would be they've been changed around a bit.

Again, thanks for all the input!

There should be no problem with being Barbarian ranger. You just have to either 1) start in Qeynos or 2) betray to Qeynos.

At level 10 you will pick Predator and at level 20 you will pick Ranger. Should be fine.

Since Barbarian can start in either city I would suggest just starting in Qeynos unless you really really want to do the betrayal quest. I just did it to make a High Elf Necromancer and trust me, it is long.

A Racial Trait list is hard to find, even on the SOE boards. I'm sure it's there, but it's like looking for stink on a High Elf.

Here's a list at Alla, last updated in February.

you DA MAN~! that's exactly what i was looking for...possibly a bit outdated/minorly changed, but definitely gives a good view of the traits! and here i was about to try to race 16 different characters to lvl 10-11ish and make a list of all the racial traditions...WHEW =P thanks again man

I think I may see where the misunderstanding is. I think you're misunderstanding the Class Change Quest.

When you go to do the Class Change, the man who tests you will give you a "taste" of each of the three classes. First he'll have you do a Rogue-themed quest, then a Bard-themed quest, then a Predator-themed quest. Once you're done with all of those, you can pick any of the three.

Any race can be any class, period. The only qualifier on that is that a Good race that wants to be an Evil class (or vice versa) will need to Betray to the opposite city. There aren't any exceptions. You can make a Troll Paladin. Or a High Elf Necromancer. Or any other combination you want to come up with.
