The easy answer: Thundering Steppes or Nektulos Forest. Both are linked to each other, both have the Tier 3 ingredients that you seek, and the adventure that you crave.

There are other zones that are suitable for your level, depending on whether you're soloing or not, but those are the two big overland Tier 3 zones.

You will not find a zone level chart like the very useful one in EQ1. Use this as a general guide though:

1-6 Isle of Refuge
6-10 City Zones, Antonica, Commonlands, sewers
11-20 Antonica, Commonlands, specialty zones (i.e. Blackburrow, Vermin's Snye)
21-30 Thundering Steppes, Nektulos Forest, Splitpaw Saga (adventure pack US$8, level 20+ scalable zone)
31-40 Enchanted Lands, Zek The Orcish Wastes
40-45 Feerott
45+ Everfrost, Lavastorm, Desert of Flames (expansion pack US$30)

There are many sub-zones, I'll call them, in each main zone. To name just a few, in Thundering Steppes you have Ruins of Varsoon. In Nek Forest you have Nek Castle (instanced-VERY good story and full set of quests). In Enchanted Lands you have Runneyeye. In Zek you have Deathfist Citadel (instanced). In Feerott you have Temple of Cazic Thule. These are but a few.

These zones are typically harder, Heroic, and require a full group, maybe even a raid.

- - - - - - - - - - - - -

In each of the zones, it typically follows a pattern of increasing difficulty. Meaning, the further you get from the zone-in point, the harder and more deadly the mobs.

Best thing to do is wander around and find things. You will see some solo mobs, some group mobs, and even a few named mobs. See what the two of you can handle, then push your limits.

Check out this for very good out-game maps. And by all means, ensure you have this!

Remember, when all else fails, run! :)

First Ruins of Varsoon is in Thundering Steppes, not in Antonica.

Second, Solusek's Eye is in Lavastorm, not Feerrott. The temple in Feerrott is The lost temple of Cazic-Thule. Neither of them are instanced.

I would disagree with all the other posters here lol. I tend to avoid Thundering Steppes and Nektulos Forest as much as possible. Unfortunately, that is where most people are. I tend to crawl more into dungeons, if you are Qeynos based i would definately give a shot to Vermin's Snye and Crypt of Betrayal. In CoB you will find mobs that give you the same amount of xp that you will get in TS, but with loot 2 to 3 times better than the lousy stuff you can find in TS. Also, the dungeons nowadays tend to be nearly empty, which leaves you and your wife totally free as to what you want to hunt. Theres a named beetle in CoB that drops great stuff, a level 30 belt and 20s adepts. Sadly, there are no harvest ressources in dungeons, so you will still have to head to TS to get these. Also TS is the first place where you will find giants, so be sure to go kill some, so you can get giant's language (which become useful later on in the game to get quests)

Also, i found out that you get good xp and good loot from instanced zones. For example, you can get a fairly good weapon by completing the Firemyst Gully event in Ant, and the weapon has a proc, which is pretty rare at that level. Some other instanced zones, like the nest, in CoB, will need you to have a full group but the loot in there is neat as well.

So...of course if what you want is xp, then you can go to TS and you will get it. But if you want to maximize the loot you get along with your xp, I would definately give the dungeons and instanced zones a try.

Gah! Where is my head? Oh, it's up my ***** :) Thanks for setting me straight. I'll fix my post...like a dog.

Your other advice is spot-on. Dungeons are also great places to go.

well, we'll try our hand at antonica. we went to explore those other places, and there's not much chance of us doing any good in there. we zoned into CoB and the first mobs we saw were a group of 3 lvl 25 heroics. they scouled at our level 19 (at the time) noobness. even at level 20....still not gonna happen. we'll probably piddle some more in antonica until 22 then try TS. it'd be easier if it was more than just us 2, but we like our own company more than big groups for casual killing, and aside from that, most EQ2 players are higher level already, so we're playing catch-up

I was never one to enjoy dungeons either, but as a Conjurer with a pet and known pathing issues, I would always struggle keeping the pet next to me.

I didn't see where you mentioned your classes. If one of you is a healer, then you will be in good shape for almost any encounter.

Being around 20 in Antonica will limit your choices since it is a T2 zone, but here are some ideas:
- Blackburrow: Entrance found on southeast corner of the map, west of the Steppes Griffon Station. Once past the first few chambers, the mobs turn into 19^^ and 20^^, maybe ^^^. Once across the wood bridge, go striaght into a room with a large group of gnolls. The Captain drops nice loot, but he's not always up. Clear the room sevearl times to get him to spawn.

There are 2 quests to get by swimming through a small water tunnel at the bottom of the waterfall. Talk to the frog.

- Highwaymen/Druids: Find groups in the northeast corner of Antonica. There are also level 20 solo bears and wolves here, but they are solo = not the greatest exp for your duo.

Or just skip all that and go into TS. Near the entrance (down the hill) you will find many mobs that are 20+ and will give better loot drops. Talk to Trapper Borgus at the bottom of the hill, he gives you repeatable quests, Hunting for Trapper Borgus. Kill 10 snakes, beetles, hawks, etc...get some cash.

Look to kill mobs that say "Heroic", that will give you the best exp and loot. In TS you will be able to check out tougher mobs and see what you can handle. Push your limits! Make it dangerous and exciting!

oh, don't die :)

Ummm, Tut... Antonica is a T2 zone... but your point is well taken...

At your present level, I would also recommend getting started in T-Steppes. The XP will be real good since you are just entering the tier and the whole zone will be a new experience for you both.

Trapper "Bogus" is a solid bet for early questing. There is a nice canyon that leads to the docks and in it you will find all of the mobs that Borgus the lazy is asking you to hunt for him. Oh, yeah... nothing in the canyon is aggro so you can play "whack-a-mole" there to your heart's content without fear of reprisal!

If you have the time to learn to speak Barbarian before you go, you can also pick the working the docks quest from the barbarian standing... on the docks in TS! He will ask you for all the same mobs as Borgus so you could easily end up with a 2 for one XP & cash bonanza.
