I have played other MMOs, and now finally started with EQ2. I will say that I am enjoying it, but I still have some questions that need to be answered for me to enjoy the game even more.

1. I still can't complete the "Seeking a Profession" quest in Qeynos. I am level 11, and still have no idea how to complete this quest.

2. Is there any place that I can get a guide to tradeskills? Since I have not done the quest yet, I am feeling a little scared about starting a tradeskill.

3. In other MMOs, there is a lot of "general" chat going on. I have yet to see any player chat. Is this the way it is? Or, what can I do to change this? The only text I have seen from real players is 1 /tell, and twice a speech bubble.

4. How do you get those items that have little green stats to them? Are they only quest rewards?

5. Is the economy only NPC based? In other MMOs I have played, there was an Auction House. Is there something like that in EQ2?

I thank all in advance for helping a noob to the EQ2 world.

1-What class are you, and what does the quest log say?

2-Here is a link, to another site that may help.

3-There is some shouting, and OOC talking going on, but group/raid/and guild chat is only available to members. Say is local area only, so if you want to talk to people close to you, it works nice. OOC and shouts have a larger area, and are mainly used to to ask answer questions. There are other specific chats, such as qeynos crafters, which is good to arrange to hire a crafter.

4-Items with stats are common. You will find them in chests, for rewards, and from crafting. Pretty much everything once you hit 20 will have them, if not sooner.

5-No the economy is player based, NPC merchants are only used for selling junk to, and getting some equipment early on, such as bags. Crafting is the heart of the eq2 economy. Harvesters gather resources, and sell them to crafters, and crafters create stuff with them to sell to others. Not that crafters cant harvest for them selves, just a lot buy off of the auctions.

To auction buy a billboard from a local merchant, they should be a few copper pieces. Place it in your room. The right click your door, and at the bottom of the window is a button for vault. Place a few bags in here to hold what you are trying to sell. Then go to the billboard and list the items for what you are trying to sell them for. You can also list anything in your inventory, but only while you stay in your room.

To buy off of auction, you need to find a broker. You can findthem in tradeskill areas, in north qeynos just north of the claymore monument, and scattered about in other parts of the city.

1. I am a Summoner, and it says to go speak to "a" trade officer. No specific name. Any help?

2. Great link, thank you.

3. So not much chatting for an unguilded player huh? I have not notice hardly ANY speaking from players. So used to people chatting for groups and such in other MMOs.

4. Ah, was wondering about all that stuff I was collecting trying to skill up. It wouldn't sell to vendor, so I stopped. Guess I will have to put up a billboard.
I will try to see if I can find a broker, and look at other people merchandise.

Thank you for your reply.

You will see more chat once you get out of T1 zones and enter tier 2 (Antonica for you), around lvl 10 or so. In the meantime, you can ask questions in say "/s" or in out of context "/ooc" say is the bubbles you mentioned and gfoes out only to folks nearby. ooc, on the other hand, is zone wide. group say is "/g" and is only shown to the other members of your group.

The trade officer you seek can be found inside any trade skill instance. you can join the wholesale society in your home village just by asking. That is the only society that will let you in. It should show up on your map when you are in your home village.

Once inside the trade skill instance, you can get the crafting quest from one of the guys there. He will give you a series of quests that will have you making him stuff to learn all about crafting. Along the way, he will give you money and all of the crafting books from lvl 3 to lvl 9.

In addition, he never takes any of the things he asks you to make so you can sell them too. He will also give you a nice bag for carrying harvested goods, (10 slot I think), and a shirt that is +1 to all crafting skills when worn. So all in all it is a VERY good quest to do.

As you mentioned, harvested goods have no value to NPCs but can be sold to other players. If you plan to do much crafting you might want to hang on to them and use them yourself. You might also happen across one or more rare harvests and these are worth good money to other players. You will know a rare by the "Bum-Plink!" musical sound that plays when you find one. Careful - you don't wanna destroy any of those!

So tradeskills are the various stuff that anyone can do like the little quest on Island of Refuge? How is that different than me wanting to become a scholar? Do I do both? And to become a scholar, I talk to npc in scholar "guild" right?

Ok that is the start to the tradeskill quest. Go to your starting city, the one with your inn room. You should have a tradeskill instance, each city has a different name, but you should see the name on the note from assistant dreak, where you got the quest.

The tradeskill instances have a guy next to the entrance, and when you talk to them they offer membership. You can then enter. Inside you can find a broker, a guy that gives quests to harvest from the nodes, a lot of trade skill equipment and a merchant that will give you more then most others. There is also a guy that sell dreaks note, if you hail him he will continue your quest.

As far as people talking, you will find more people talking in more populated zones. But most of it is in guilds and groups. There isnt as much chating for finding groups with a looking for group tag.

As far as the harvested stuff from nodes. Some sell really well others dont, on the billboard there will be an button to check prices. This makes setting prices easy, and lets you know what sells and what doesnt.

Yes.

Well, yes and no. You can talk to the guy outside of the scholar's guild but until you reach lvl 10 and declare that you want to continue training as a scholar, he won't want to talk to you.

Tradeskills like adventurer class & sub-class move forward in 3 steps. from lvl 1 - lvl 10 you are an artisan and everyone is in the same boat. Just before you reach lvl 10 you will choose one of three classes to continue your crafting education.

These are craftsman, (woodworker, carpenter & chef), outfitter, (armorer, weaponsmith & tailor) and scholar, (alchemist, sage & jeweler).

Then just before you reach lvl 20 you will choose one of the skills from the 3 within the class you chose at lvl 10.

After lvl 20, the only area where you will continue to receive skill ups is the sub-class you have chosen. All other skills are capped at 99 or less.

What this boils down to is that anyone can make anything from lvl 1 - lvl 9. But from lvl 10 - lvl 19, you would have to be an outfitter to make backpacks, chainmail or swords. And from lvl 20 up, you would have to be a tailor to keep making nicer backpacks. Make sense?

Now I get it. I talked to that npc that is next to the tradeskill when I first got inot town, but didn't join because I was afraid that it wasn't for scholars and wouldn't be able to become a scholar. Then I talked to a scholar, and was unable to join (now I know why).
Ok, I know who to talk to to get my skill up to be able to talk to a scholar. Thank you.
