The anatomy of a pullFollow

Although it is not listed in the cleric line of spells we do have a spell Soothe that is supposed to reduce the hate and agro radius of a mob. Unfortunately I can't find very much information on this spell, and I'm running under the premise that there are huge differences in pulling between EQ1 and EQ2. It appears that this spell really is only useful for pulling single mobs that may be tightly packed together (or getting past a mob in order to do reconnaissance). Mobs that are “grouped” can’t be pulled using this spell. For example if there are four gnolls in a group you can’t Soothe three of them and then single pull the remaining mob. It appears that in EQ2 if you attack a group of mobs you will always get every single mob.

After fruitlessly trying to discover creative ways around this I’m at a loss if single pulling a group can be accomplished. I haven’t played an enchanter hence I’m not sure if you can mezz individual members of a group and then single pull. Is there any way of taking out individuals in a group other than very quickly root parking?

I think that Soothe in fact reduces the hate the mob has towards you, the cleric. Which makes that spell useless in a solo encounter since the mob will only be locked to you. But this spell gets useful in group situations when you accidentaly grab aggro from a mob, then cast this spell, it reduces the hate level of the mob against you and gives a better chance to the tank to get the aggro back.

And no, you cant take only one mob from a group of mobs. If they are all grouped together then you intherit all of them.

EQOA had the same spell for bards and encs. Reading the description, sooth lowers the aggro radius of a mob, and I havnt tanked much in EQ2, but it may be usefull for pulling. Though since mobs are obviously linked here, I am not sure how it would work.

The other thing it can be used for is while traveling, and you have a mob you dont want to fight, but it's aggro radius blocks your path. You can soothe to sneak by, depending on the position of the mob.

The clerics lower aggro spell is distract.

Quote:
Cleric 13 Distract Pacifies all enemies near the cleric, preventing them from making normal combat attacks, and reduces their hate towards the cleric. Any hostile actions taken on them will break the pacify effect

As far as I know, you cannot pull one mob out of a pack under any condition.

All of the priest spells, (and the scout spells for that matter), that reduce hate do indeed do so under "group" conditions only and have no effect if you are soloing the mob(s). They are intended only to help you "give" aggro back to the tank.

For an enchanter to use mezz, the entire pack of mobs needs to be pulled to the group and before the ench mezz's any that need to be placed on hold.

In EQ2, I have never seen an ench go with the puller and mezz before the pull.

You'll find that this is a whole different game with different "rules" and although you can't divide and conquer a pack of mobs, they are often 'doable' solo "en masse" when you consider that they each have 1 or more down arrows making themm weaker than the ir listed level.

In addition, many classes have a spell or CA line that will do AoE damage that is limited to mobs in the encounter. (I can remember playing my low level bard in EQ and casting an AoE song only to attract every nearby snake in East Commons when I did!)
