ResellersFollow

Maybe someone can help me understand this concept, because I just plain flat out don't grok it!

Everytime I am perusing the broker, I see players who are trying to resell items purchased from NPC merchants. I'm not talking about selling drops to other players... I get that, I'm talking about items that are common to NPC merchants in the different zones.

Like T4 food & drink or backpacks that can be bought from the merchant standing on the dock in Enchanted Lands... Now it's not like you couldn't get there yourself... it's the dock for cryin' out loud... there are no aggro mobs on the docks and anybody... even a lvl 5 toon could get there safely!!!

So what is the deal? Are there players who are so dumb that they will pay both a player and a broker markup to get items that they could easily have bought for themselves simply by making a quick run through the bells to a higher end zone?

Or does this junk just sit there in the seller's inventory taking up room like a crate full of pet rocks?

I admit it... I am perplexed...

I think it just goes to show, that sadly there are some folks who don't look very deeply into what's really going on.

They see it, they want it, they buy it, and they just don't realise it's dirt cheap on the NPC merchant.

On the other side of the coin, I'm totally underwhelmed by the type of person who is so desparate for more gold they'll actually go out and try to pull this off.

It's also amazing how many keep stuff up for sale when they'd get a better price from their friendly crafthouse merchant.

Are ther players dumb enough to buy merchant fodder on auction, yes, and as in real life there will be low life trying to gain from others stupidity. I always hated how people try thise, but in a fair market they are not doing anything wrong, it is not like they are misleading, the auction gives all the info on the item.

Its also that some people dont know that those items are from a merchant. Granted this would mainly be players that didnt craft cuz crafted items have a distinct naming convention. I had no clue until a couple weeks ago that there is a merchant in EL that sells bags. I have been leveling there for a while now. Granted I didnt go and buy bags off the market either so I havnt done the search and seen a bunch of not crafted bags up. I am still carrying around 10 slot quest bags and 8 slot bags. I really need to trade them in and buy some bigger ones.

Since "tier quality" backpacks are available in every zone, If you already have DoF, you may as well just go all the way and visit Maj'Dul for the T6 - 14 slot model of "NPC made" backpack. If you don't have DoF yet then hit a T5 zone like EverFrost for the 12 slot version.

Either way, you'll be getting more slots than the T4 - 10 slot version available in Enchanted Lands has to offer. And the trip is no longer, harder or more dangerous!

I found the best bags so far have been from the collecting quest, I cant remember how many slots it has, but the EL ficusleaf one plenty of room, I need to log on and check on how many slots.

It is a huge collectors pouch with 30 slots from the ferrott fern leaves, and a large collectors pouch from the EL maple leaves.

But I really should change out some of my smaller bags for chests since they can hold more and weight isnt much of an object.

I laugh at those resellers. I also laugh cautiously at those that list a cheap item for a huge amount, hoping to get someone that accidentily clicks wrong. I'd sure hate to waste 3pp on a tin bar. :(

Forgot to mention, you can always send the seller a mail note expressing your disatisfaction. Maybe that will help them change their mind.

...or they will laugh.

I've seen people mention the 12-slot bag run several times, and it makes me scratch my head and wonder - do people check the merchants in town? I've seen NPC merchants in town selling the exact same 12-slot bag. Is there something I'm missing - like that the ones in town are "unlocked" by levels and the ones in the Enchanted Lands are available to anyone regardless of level?

Because I just can't wrap my mind around why someone would make the insane run from Antonica to EL at very low levels to get bags that are available in town.

Check this: One of the merchants in East Freeport (in the Trader's Holiday) sells the 12-slot bags for just over 4 gold, and the man standing next to her sells the 10-slotters for 1 gold. I'm sure I've seen the same in Qeynos, but I can't remember where, exactly.

Or get you you in trouble for harassment, after all you don't have to buy the item up for the high price.
BTW goto Ebay you will see the same thing on 60% of the items for sale there. You could buy cheaper in the local walmart yet people still buy.

I myself under cut everyone who care if you get 5g less then its worth, and people get pissed about that to hehehehe.

Its called an open market, or as in the golden days buyer beware :)

As a conjurer I laugh when I see someone selling the Illusion spells for 1g that sell from the NPC merchant for 20s. That's a head scratcher also.

What I love even more is when I see items that I have crafted myself being resold by someone else. I made some maple double beds. They were pristine. I sold them for like 50s. I saw it the other day for 5g. Needless to say, it's still there for 5g.
Or an item that I crafted being sold by evil side for 20g. I charged 5g.

Funny.
