Isle of Refuge (2 Questions)Follow

been really getting into the whole crafting thing in EQ2, haven't made it past the IoR yet, but running into a shortage of money to support my crafting brought about 2 questions about the Island as a whole

1) Are there any factors to consider that will make my crafting more likely to produce prestine items? I can usually get prestine subcomponents but have little to no luck on the final product

2) Is it at all possible to solo the heroic mobs on this island, the level 6 ones specifically. I made an ogre warrior, had him to capped xp at lvl 6, completed all possible island quests, and I tried to go one on one with the heroic shark in the lake, best i could do was get him to 20%. Currently I'm using a barbarian scout that i have at level 6 (xp to 7) and the lvl 5 heroic goblin mobs take me out with half their health left. Just curious if anyone has been able to do this or not.

Thanks for any info

As for crafting you should have probably stopped right after finishing the quest. When you get to the main game you will have a quest from turning in the note for it. This quest will give you all the crafting books up to lvl 9 as well as a 10 slot bag that only stores harvestables and a chest piece that adds one to each of your crafting skills.

As for your other questions.

1) You can spam you abilities you do not have to wait for something to counter. Granted this might not help at the lower lvls but at lvl 10 you will get abilities that will increase your durability rather then progress so getting pristines is much more common.

2) Being heroic mobs they are intended for groups so you are going to have a hard time if not imposible time soloing them since the combat update. You also have to look at that shark being a named mob (if I am thinking of the right one). That makes it even harder to solo. Just pick up another person or 2 if they are around and go out that way should be no problem then.

Since you're pretty much done with IoR, I suggest you pack your bags and head for the main city. You will find many more quests and adventures! No need to complete a few nagging quests on IoR, there are thousands more waiting for you.

Well currently I have a character that I have on IoR named Luxley. He is a Froglock Warrior, level 6 220% exp. I can solo everything on the Isle except Shadow Serpent, Bladefin, and the Ghost Pirate (can't think of his name right now. Everything else I can slash through pretty easily solo, even the Orc Grimgash.

If you are looking to make enough money to craft I recommend fighting the named bear (starts with a Q and you have to kill his placeholder several times for him to spawn, located by the graveyard), Goblin Chief and his two friends on top of the tower, Greybeard, and kill all goblins you see. I have gotten my crafting to level 9 and all my bonus exp earned and I still have ~70 silver. All I am doing now is making myself enough pristine leather backpacks to fill my inventory with and my bank slots and I will be headed to Qeynos. It just takes time. My title of Goblin Hunter has been aquired for a while now.

Also I sell back any primary ingrediants that aren't pristine back to the vendor to minimize my losses. If your primary ingrediant in a final combination isn't pristine your final product cannot be pristine.

ok then another question. i have a lvl 13 brawler that obviously left IoR, but i did not level him at all in artisan. now leveling in artisan in the beginning is easy, i know this, my question is, what are the odds of being able to aquire the needed lower level ingredients to grind my artisan skills up. if it matters, i'm a barbian (good faction). will the newbie area outside of greystone yard have the mats i need to start more or less from scratch as an artisan for him?

All of the low level zones have tier 1 items. You will still be able to gather roots, mine salt/lead/tin/turquose, trap low quality pelts, chop up some elm, etc.

hmmm well that sounds like a plan, because i love my brawler, just want to start crafting with him now. ummm...one last thing. on IoR and also in the lowbie zones, i've often looted 'scarab shells' are they used for anything?

Shells are for collection quests. Examine it and your collection quest log will pop up, then choose which collection to add it.

Remember you can also buy many ingredients for crafting basic components at the merchant in the wholesale artisan zone. Oakmyst Forest is a great place to harvest all kinds of items. It's a small zone with many spawns.

i know about the shells and feathers collection on IoR, the shells i'm referring to, the 'scarab shells', i may be calling them the wrong thing, but when you kill the beetles on IoR and loot them they're found on these guys. sorta like you'd loot a pelt from a wolf....

I know what you are talking about but I never have found a use for them other that the fact that you can sell them to a NPC vendor and ever copper adds up.

adding one more question......

.....i started over. i was going to start crafting with my lvl 13 brawler, but it's easier in my mind to get to lvl 9 artisan on IoR so i started my brawler over. my question is this....

....taking him to monk, and most likely will be doing a lot of solo playing, and i'm curious which of the 3 would be most beneficial to me

1) become a weaponsmith and craft my own monk weapons?
2) become an armorer and make my own armor?
3) become a sage (i think that one does fighters) and make my own combat spell upgrades?

just looking for a few opinions

It is an alchemist that makes the fighter spell upgrades. This is the route I went, as finding spells on the broker can be hit or miss, depending on your server.

I've been able to equip all my characters' weapons and armor through quests mostly and what I couldn't get through quests, I usually had no trouble finding armor/weapons on the broker.

Hope that helps!

As for being easier to get to level 9 on the island thats your choice but the quest you get when you join your crafting guild and turn in dreaks note to the guy that sells dreaks note will bring you to lvl 9 as well as give you coin and a few good items.

As for what would be most benificial to yourself I would have to agree with being an alechemst to make your own upgrades. For weaponsmith and armorer you have to keep your crafting level 10 lvls ahead of you to make your own gear most of the time. You only have to be even to make your own spells.

I would recommend not doing any of those and go with Provisioner, making your own high quality food and drink.

The only other choice as a backup would be Alchemist to make your own spells. I have a Monk and it has been hard to find upgrades to some of my spells. I'm also fortunate to be in a guild where we have a dedicated Artisan that makes armor and jewelry for us all. I am about on par with her abilities, so as she makes it, I can wear it.

Remember you can also go to The Fence (black-market broker) in Qeynos Harbor to find items for sale from Freeport based players. Access is easy, from the outdoor broker, jump in the moat and swim towards the docks. You will see an underwater hole on the right. Swim in and up to get to a small room and The Fence. It can all be done in one easy breath.

Personally I don't think it would be worth the effort to become a crafter just to make your own gear. At the higher levels it's such a dull grind that you need more motivation than that. You can adventure and harvest and make plenty of money with which to buy gear from others.

As far as that motivation goes, you may just find you enjoy the process. You can make money selling things you make to other players, but don't expect to get rich unless you're in the first few in your class on your server. You can get status and a little profit from doing writs and tasks. The tradeskill community is pretty good (on my server at least) they need something to do while they grind, so there is usually a lot of chat going on.

My mains are a mage 32 provisioner and a bard 15 outfitter. I make a lot of money with the provisioner. It just seems easier to aquire the goods needed to make the foods. Plus it is also easier because you only use one work area.

The outfitter uses the chemistry, tailoring, and forging work areas. At least so far. I don't see a big market for the stuff she is making as of yet though.

Anyway you go you will end up doing some grinding to get to the next level.

I decided I wanted to create someone to make furniture. I really enjoy decorating my apartments. So I created a fighter carpenter who is now level 12. She is making crap furniture so far but I am enjoying it. The carpenter so far has used the woodworking, chemistry, workbench, tailoring, and forging tables. All that running around makes me really appreciate the provisioner.

I am not sure what the point of my posting to this thread was.
