I recently downloaded and tried out the "Trial of the Isle" for Everquest 2. I started up as a dark elf mage, lvled up to 6 got all the gear, then i started a half-elf fighter got him to 5. (May get him to 6, not sure if my week is up yet)

I enjoyed it, but since i cant really advance any further, i cant get a real impression of the game for myself.
Nor have i been able to see any players decked out in thier cool armor to truly apprieciate the graphics in the game. Or have a goal to aim for.
In the original EQ(which i played for like 2 years, 55 bst ,52 rog) I would see someone in the coolest armor, or doing something battleing monsters, and they would inspire me to continue playing.

Im not sure if i want the game, and for 30 dollars, i could explore the outside world for one month.
I dont think i want to start another game again, and im hoping that if i DO try it, ill really suit the game.
As far as the original everquest is concerend, I really dont want to go up in that old engine anymore.

So im asking about gameplay, more specific parts of the gameplay in this game.Im also going to compare the things i liked of MMORPGS that i have played, and maybe i can find some of those in Eq2. I dont want to start a mmorpg war here( FFXI vs ** vs ** vs WOw vs..whatever) thats not my intention.

right from the beginning of my days:
Asherons call! - i liked the quests , especially for the special swords. Kind of cool mages.

Everquest: I like the classes, especially the structure of the game. however, it gets a little extreme when your beating on a monster for 5 minutes.
I really enjoyed beastlord. major thing i liked was the game dynamically changed as you rose through the lvls. being lvl 30 was a different game than being lvl 50. or 55, and so on.
There weere also more abilites that classes unlocked,(say, beastlords getting sow at (22 is it?))Druids getting a sort of complete heal. New abilites being given to ones class after a whole bunch of experience has been gained.
Money i found to never be a problem. I always found ways to make money to get the gear i wanted.
Crafting, i've never really bothered doing in eq. i like the crafting in EQ 2 however, it was really neat.

DaOc - Im not really going in depth here,
Dislikes: a class got all of there powers at lvl 5. they just got better or stronger. too boring for me.

FFXI: ( lots of things to say but ill compress it)
Experience: i found unsoloabilty a problem with school. and the game takes a bit too long for my taste. i dont have 5 hours each day to play. ( ><)
I really liked, the storyline and the quests. The world was living and breathing. Like truly alive.
I enjoyed crafting a bit but too much of a money sink.

Money is a bit too hard to obtain, and nevermind i need loads of it to get into the higher lvl game, and certain jobs rely on certain items, dropped by NMS and constantly camped by gil-sellers.

While i love that game, it's just not working out. Its not too-hard,
it just takes TOO long.

WoW:
Im going to have to cut this short (im at school atm)
I find wow to be a bit too easy. Reaching lvl 60 isnt an achievement. no achievements, i dont find myself striving to gain something. (in ffxi, if i was to gain lvl 30 in a job, i'd call that somewhat of an achievement)
Not enough achievements, and no cool high end that EQ has. im still playing now, because this game is soloable.

Overall, i think im looking for something a cross between FFXI storyline and grind( i need a bit of grind to feel achivement) and WoW's Soloability , and ability to jump-and-play kind of feel.

Then it sounds like you've found your place in EQ2.

There is a little for everyone, but it is not as easy as WoW. If you want to quest, you can do that. If you want to grind, you can do that. If you want to craft, you can do that. If you want to group, there is always that.

You will find that money is tight at the beginning, but that has little impact since you can quest for armor, weapons, and equipment. Eventually you will be making enough money to support getting good (but not uber) gear and spells.

If you want the best of everything, you need to be in a guild that does raids.

I'm not in a raiding guild, am a casual-to-busy player, and have yet to experience everything EQ2 has to offer. My gear and spells are above average.

The community in EQ2 is a bit more mature. You'll always find lots of help and things to do.

I played a BST to 49 and had a blast. I was especially glad when I was able to go off son solo Hill Giants in Rathe Mts.

Have fun and good luck with your choice. :)

cool, I like that there is a more mature community.

Like in WoW theres so many teens on the game because they have game cards. while they do offer game cards for EQ2, it seems less popular.

Whats similar to beastlord in the game? its almost as if they doubled the classes?

I'll have to take a closer look. Before i try the game i have to pick up my credit card( since, i dont want to pay out 90 bucks for a full game card, when i might quit after the free month)

What should i avoid as far as classes go , such that i can get invites( was thinking of playing a bruiser)

There really is no similiar class to a BST in EQ2. The BST had a fearsome pet and was also able to melee and cast spells.

The pet classes in EQ2 are Mages > Conjurer or Necromancer. Both have paper-thin armor and will fall against any formidable foe if in melee. But that's how a mage is supposed to be, so no worries.

You have seen how you start with a choice of 4 classes. When you reach level 10, you will pick a archtype path to follow...meaning, you will become to "specialize" your character to what it will become. If you start with Mage, at level 10 you will pick between Sorcerer (nukes), Summoner (pet), or Illusionist (mezzer).

Then, when you get to level 20, you make the final selection which is typically chracterized by becoming good or evil. So starting as a Mage, at level 10 you can pick Summoner, then at level 20 you can pick Conjurer. Then you will forever be a Conjurer.

If you always want a group invite, then a healer is the way to go. They are always needed for taking down hard mobs. But be ready to do nothing but healing - if that's your bag than that's cool.

Other classes are generally broken up thusly:
Fighter: Tank with low DPS
Scout: High DPS from behind
Mage: High DPS
Priest: Heals with low DPS

Keep in mind that each class has archtypes that do different things. For example, if you go Scout > Predator > Ranger you will have the best attacks with a bow. If you go Scout > Bard > Troubador you will have great self and group buffs (songs).

So groups will typically look for certain roles..."Group seeks 2 more DPS to take down named! PST!" or "Group needs healer to do into Blackburrow! PST!" or the always funny, "Mage group needs a tank!"

I've played every class (not archtype) and about one third of all the archtypes looking for what is fun. Believe me, there are significant differences betwen them so you have many possibilities.

One of the things I love about this game is that I can be anything I want to be. Having the freedom of creating what I want I went with a dark elf bard. My son has a gnome monk. Stats are important but don't seem to be as big of a deal as in EQ I. Of course I could be wrong since I never got beyond my 50's in EQ I and just hit 30's in EQ II.

I find myself questing a lot. Simply because I really enjoy the challenge of completing a quest.

Enjoy.
