Hello eq2 fans.

I am a former 50 assassin from Mistmoore. I got fed up with a number of things last April and decided to end my adventures in Norrath.

I am not writing this to gripe to you about the game, but rather because I saw a lot of potential in EQ2, but was un happy at the time, with the way things were going.

To give a frame of reference, I quit just at about the time the new crafting events went into play. I mean the chances to receive a buff to durability, complete the item, or even a rare material. Also I believe food types had just been given a stat bonus, or were about to receive it.

Anyway, Sony has been emailing me about "faster advancement" and "solo content" and "new loot".

My questions are as follows:

Has tradeskill advancement been increased? One of the things I did not enjoy about eq2 was crafting. As much as I enjoyed saying I was a "war haggler" I couldnt take the long hours of grinding necessary to advance crafting past the low 30's.

Also, I was a woodworker, and had very few useful recipees. It seemed so much cheaper to buy fulginate arrows than to spend many painful hours to level woodworking high enough to make them. Also, at the time it really was no cheaper to make arrows, the only advantage were the choice between crushing/piercing/slashing.

As far as solo content:

Assassins were a bad solo class at the time because their damage potential relied heavily on a tank to keep the mob facing in the appropriate direction for a backstab.

However I didnt really care about solo play, but what I did want was more 6-man content. I completed a good deal of 24-man content, I had my prismatic weapon, killed venekor, vox and such... but I found organizing 24 person groups to be a pain.

Has any more "high end" small group content been added?

As far as new loot:

Speaking of Venekor and Vox, I always hated killing an end game mob and not getting a master chest, or getting a master chest with a cedar railing, and some rubicite gear. Then on the way out of the dungeon a master chest would drop from lizerd man # 32325 with better loot than the raid boss.

Has the consistency of drops been stabilized?

I realize I rushed my way into the high end, and that it would be a while before Sony had time to straighten everything out. However my main criticism of Sony is their tendence (in my opinion) to release new content before the old problems are fixed.

Thanks in advance to anyone who answers this post :)

Well, unfortunately I'm not much of a crafter, nor have I reached the final levels as yet.

But what I can say (as someone who stopped playing in March and recently picked up the pace again) is that there have been a lot of changes in the game. And so far I do like those changes.

There has been a serious change of solo content, several creatures that used to be group mobs only (or required that you had to outgrey them) now have solo mobs too. Giants for instance.

This is quite good for the player that doesn't have that much time and wants to just do something.

Nevertheless, with the upcoming Desert of Flames expansion, I'ld say that there has been a lot of new content for the higher level player. Level cap will be 60, there is a limited pvp section (kind of anyway, with the arena zones), new mobs, new raids too I guess.

And there will be changes to the combat system too.

These will take place after 18/09, which is the release date of the expansion.

With regard to crafting, you'll find that SOE have made many changes to the system, and all for the better, as far as I'm concerened. I quit trying to level as a Weaponsmith in my teens because I didn't know an Alchemist to buy washes, tempers, etc from, and they were way to expensive on the broker. They removed that blockage by letting everyone craft their own subcomponents.

Every level of crafting takes a little longer than the previous one to complete, just like adventure levels. They have done things overall to make the progess faster, though. When you're crafting you get Out of Combat Power regen, not sure if that's new. What is definitely new is the good regen you get from player made drink. When you correctly counter an event now, you get a guaranteed "good round" (+50 prog, -10 Dur). Hit all three buffs and you get a lot of progress or durability. You also get decent experience for all the subs you're now making for yourself.

A few tips I think more people might need to know:

- Craft Naked! Take off any equipment and buffs that increase your power pool - less power means faster regen. Mitigation is useless against the forge because it takes a percentage of your health, not a fixed amount. Almost everyone I see crafts in their armor - no no no. If you don't want to see the ugly newbie outfit (mine makes me look fat :( ), buy some tradesperson or other clothing from a city merchant for a few personal status points. The female version has a stylin' crop-top.

- Anything that will help power regen without adding to your pool is good - totems, group with bards or chanters for buffs.

- Use tier appropriate player-made drink. Food is useless for crafters.

- Use progress buffs as much as possible until your pristine durability goes below 33% or so, then switch to durability. Avoid the '- chance for success' buff until the item is blue to you.

Crafting naked and using drink, I can make 5 - 10 items without stopping to rest, spamming 3 buffs the whole time (other than the expensive T4 power for durability buff). Unless I'm making a difficult item, I usually rest by switching to just the two non-power using buffs.
