Little Help With Race Please...Follow

#1 Aug 22 2005 at 2:54 PM Rating: Decent
Allright,

So I cancelled my WoW account a few month's ago and am finally ready to get back into a MMORPG.. I played EQ I for several years, so i am familiar with the zones and the classes/races from there.

My problem is this, I have pretty much decided to go one of a few routes, I am really thinking about being a Berzerker or a Bruiser. I always found my niche was melee classes, and while I really do think a Necromancer would be fun... I'd like to try this route first.

I'm joining with a friend of mine, and he decided to go Evil, being a Dark Elf... limiting me to evil races, I know you can betray, but I'd like to play with him from 1-20 as well. Now I cannot think of a single race on the evil side that really fits the role of a bruiser, I could see being a Troll for a 'Zerker... but aside from Ratonga, is there a good race on the evil side for Bruiser... ?

Just could use a little advice, thanks.

Game mechanic wise, I believe any race can be any class, and once you get to your subclass level, your original race choice has very little to do with how effective you are at your chosen profession- so really, it's a cosmetic/roleplay thing as to what race you are.

A bruiser seems nothing more than a hired goon in my mind, big, dumb and stupid- so you might try ogre or something. All races will have thugs amongst them. you could always go for the generic human as well.

You can also take this opportunity to break from the norm. I mean, c'mon, how many Ogre fighters can I stand to see in one day? And an Erudite? Let me guess...um...Mage? /groan

But a cute little female Ratonga that can surprisingly open up a can of woop-@ss is a sight to see.

Or a blond pig-tailed wood elf that cackles as her summoned zombie rips the flesh from it's enemies.

The above poster is right, race does not matter, any race can become any class.

So have some fun, be different, be daring, but BE!

Iskar used to be the pick for monks in EQ, because of their racial bonuses (Extra attack with the tail, health regen and built in armor). Those are handled differently in EQ2, you choose a racial bonus from 4 or 5 periodically as you level up, there are also class bonuses and special abilities you can choose.

Anyone know where you can go to see the bonus choices for each race and class?

here is a list of traits currantly available. Though it may change when beta goes live.

For a bruiser ogres and trolls really fit the the name, then you have Kerrans, iksar, barbarians, and half elves as well. Remember on the list going left to right anything after barbarian can be evil, it is on;ly the first 5 that have to be good, and betry to FP.

For what you want: Iskar makes a fun brawler, I would think. It's in their blood. Cool Shadowknights, too. A Iskar dirge would be fun, and you don't see many Iskar healers, a few casters. Iskar necro? Iskar zerker? Great evil race.

Dark elf, of course, since they're allowing ' in names in the near future. Dark elf brawer would look cool, they have some great hair. Dark elf coercer seems fun, and defiler would fit, too. Dark elf SK?

Ratongas make funny looking brawlers. that could be worth it. Ratonga guardian? Tiny tank? Really, rats are good for any evil class. I don't like to play them personally, but I DO have a frog, so...

Kerra can be good or evil. So can humans. But who wants to play a human? I think a kerra with black fur would be an awesome SK. Kerra also make great brawlers. Kerra wizzie would be interesting.

Troll and Ogre are both great in any fighting class, obvoiusly. But why not make them bards, or healers? Hell, I have a troll illusionist, and it's a blast. Be the 1st Ogre Wizard on your block...

And I'll end this post with 2 words: Halfling Necromancer.

Erudite monk or SK would be cool, but they have to be bald. That's a rule, I've heard. Flippy told me. Eirter way, you'd have a very smart fighter.
