Is my math correct?Follow

#1 Aug 10 2005 at 5:10 AM Rating: Good
Or maybe more important, is my logic sound?

Meat:
I am trying to figure out the most cost effective method for buying a tier 2 horse. My guild is about to hit lvl 20 so using PSP will soon become a viable option.

Potatos:
Buying a horse for straight cash works out to 3 plat & change, (3p, 68g, 64s),
Buying the same horse for cash + status works out to 2 plat & change + 80,000 psp. (80000sp, 2p, 7g, 36s)

My question then becomes whether 80,000 PSP > or = 1.6 plat.

Here is my computation, (I'm working with rough numbers - close is fine):

Trade skill writs net me cash, (160% of cost), plus just under 2000 points each. 2000 X 40 (jobs) = 80,000 points.

40 jobs @ 10 items each = 400 items made.

At an average of 1.5 gold per item, I would make 600 gold from the sale of these items to players. (Assume that I could get that much and that I could sell that many)

600 gold < 1.6 plat (savings for using status) So, even assuming the best possible outcome, I will still save a substantial amount of cash by doing the writs and using PSP

Does that sound correct?

I guess that would be why they have it in the game. It would be silly if PSP actually hurt you. (I mean come on it plays games and movies... umm... nevermind).

The only thing that you didn't take into account is the idea of time you spend doing the writs. However that is more than out weighed by the time it would take to sell 400 items on the mass market.

In short: yes, your math and logic seem sound to me.

Seems to me that most people go for the cash + PSP option to buy a horsie. They can't all be wrong can they Smiley: wink

Do not forget the faction you get from doing the writs too. That in itself is worth the time an effort spent on the writs.

I treat the SPs as a bonus. [Well ok darn it, I'm saving up for a Maj-Dul]

Honestly, I have been looking at this since 8am yesterday morning. I cannot wrap my head around these calculations. Help a poor, confused Dwarf out.

How is 600g < 1.6p?

600gp = 6pp

6pp > 1.6pp

I think OBD just got his signs confuzled

HOLY HELL!!!!

I finally understand! Yay me!

I was the one who was confuzled. Being sick really messes with the old noggin.

OBD, your math, is correct!

still agree with Dak. Signs are switched

No, there was a flaw in my math... Since 600 gold > 1.6 plat, (and assuming a unit price of 1.5 gold per item within a time frame that will include that many sales before doomsday), it will be faster and cheaper to buy the horse for straight cash than it is to do the writs.

I had it backwards... thanks guys, good catch, Mearyk!

(I think I was seeing 1.6 plat as 1600 gold... DOH!)

Well then next time you have 1600 gold send me a PM, I've got 2pp I'd be willing to trade ya Smiley: grin
