pop-upsFollow

Is it time to draw the line with Alla? I have been a supporter for many years now. I am not happy with the non-search ability of the EQII forums but have learned to live with it. The forums are now becoming more useful and have some very dedicated posters. But I really think that Alla's new use of pop-up windows may be going too far. Why should I pay for advertisements? Isn't that one of the main reasons for financial support on other forums? The elimination of those annoying and multiplying pop-ups?

What's up with that Alla? At first I thought it must just be my home computer's settings. I do most of my posting from my work computer. I just logged into Alla at work and got two pop-up ads.

Has anyone else noticed this? I don't like to complain but I really detest pop-ups.

I puruse and post from work also, and get many pop-ups. At times, the web page will lock up as my firewall battles some Tron-like entity inside the system. This forces me to click Stop and Refresh - often several times.

Just as I get a little closer to considering paying, I battle with pop-ups and grumble as I lean back in my chair waiting for the page to load.

If you pay do the pop-ups stop? i.e. Make the service so annoying to force you to pay for normal service?

You can subscribe to alla's site for a few bucks a month to actually really support him. Once you do that all popups and advertisments are gone.

And you can still be pissed at him for the **** poor search feature and lack of content! :D

Aye heres what it says as one of the advantage of paying.

Elimination of all banner, tower and popup ads while browsing the site. Instead of an ad, you will get a personal welcome message.

Me: Excuse me, bank teller, why is this line longer than a new ride at Disneyland? I've been in line so long I've had to shave twice.
Them: Oh this is the line for everyone that has not paid a special upgrade fee.
Me: Upgrade fee? What does that get me?
Them: You get to move to that line over there. [points]

Cue the angelic choir, clouds parting casting sunlight on a red carpet that leads to happy, smiling bank teller, waiting to take my business. Fruity drinks with little umbrellas are served over there.

Me: [sigh]

Or

Me: Ow, stop poking me.
Them: I'm supposed to. [pokes]
Me: Ow, go away.
Them: Only if you pay me. [pokes]
Me: Ow, look, you keep poking me someone is going to get hurt.
Them: Looks like it's you. [pokes]
Me: [sigh]

Instead of a personal welcome message can I just get a fruity drink?

As a premium member, you should NEVER see pop ups. I access this site from home and work, (Did I say that out loud? Oh, I mean I could access this site from work!!!), and never see any at all. They only appear if I view the site without logging in as OBD.

I agree that you shouldn't have to deal with them... you paid for your ticket, you shouldn't have to ride in the baggage compartment!

Tutan... Unfortunately, I don't think the fruity drink thing is an option... but may I offer you a Refreshing Fayberry Fizzlepop while you wait? (Should last you 3 hours and 22 minutes...)

My bad! Or Alla bad? From what I can figure out is that my premium membership expires sometime over the weekend. I didn't receive any e-mail allerting me to the change. As I said above, I have supported them for years. I have re-uped my subscription and have no more pop-ups. I guess I should have noticed something was funny when I no longer saw my cat avatar photo on the left side of the post.

My humble appologies for going off half-cocked.

Your fellow poster, Zoo

As I always say when questions about Premium payment come up, Alla is the last bastion against the evil plat sellers, and I'll keep my premium payment going forever if it helps him to stay that way

I agree with the above, download firefox.

If you insist on using IE, at least download Pop-Up Stopper. Free and easy to use.

No I do..Its the only reason I really got Firefox..Besides that you can get rid of your History/Cookies/Cache/Prefs and whatever else is under there...I don't like people knowing what I've been looking up..Even if its only Eq2..
