There must have been a major problem to take the servers down right now. To me, this is like doing construction during rush hour traffic. Doesn't make much sense.

I am probably just mad because the SO is outta town and I am able to play for as long as I want Smiley: grin

Message to SOE....can we talk about the definition of "brief" downtime? LOL

My understanding was there was a plat dupe exploit found earlier today (late last night).

Originally there was a brief, unexpected patch this morning where they confirmed it.

Now is the emergency patch to fix it and review accounts that may have been exploiting it. Some accounts were placed in "Banned" status after this morning's patch as a precaution.

Soo, hopefully soon servers will be up with patch that prevents the duping and all non-offenders will be back to normal.

Went over to the SOE boards and found the following notice:

Quote:
All US and EU servers are coming down at 11PM PDT for maintenance. Estimated downtime is 4 hours.

We apologize for the inconvenience.

Hmmmm... server maint at 11PM... sounds fishy to me...

Yep. Gotta booted last night around 8:00pm est.

Got a little suspicious because servers never go down at night. Figured "o well" and went and watched some T.V.

Got up this morning and wanted to see if I sold anything yesterday.
Was told that the EQ2 program could not find my Server. Guess they are still having issues....

I logged on just now and the servers are up, but offline selling is down. So...you may not have sold anything Bubspeed. Online selling still works though.

caught this post:
Quote:
EQ2 Server Downtime - Sunday, 8/7/05, 11PM PDT

Moorgard:

The EQ2 servers were brought down Sunday afternoon for an unscheduled update. Unfortunately the downtime ended up being around 2.5 hours, longer than was anticipated. We apologize for disrupting your weekend play.

As many have noticed, a dupe exploit surfaced that caused visible disruption in the economies of the servers. This bug has been fixed, and the offending accounts have been banned and their ill-gotten currency removed from the game.

The wealth rankings on EQ2Players will update automatically over the next couple days and should then be back to normal.

If you own an account that you feel was banned erroneously, please contact our customer service department for assistance. We cannot respond to account issues on the boards.

Again, we regret impacting your gameplay, especially on a weekend. We hope you understand that protecting the integrity of the game is a matter of great concern for us.

So I'm thinking that the afternoon downtime was to hot-patch a fix to the exploit and the 11PM downtime was to go back in and expunge all the money that was created.

Personally speaking, I'm glad they have the tools and that they, (SOE), are positioned and determined to protect the game.

I find that the morning server downtimes are the most frustrating for me. I sometimes have 1/2 hour to an hour to play before I go to work. I have downloaded the test server on both of my computers and now go there when the server is down. I have two toons that just made it off the island and to Qeynos on the Oasis server.

Playing on test server will take some planning ahead though. On my DSL it took 6 hours to dowdnload.
