Well, I just thought I'd say hello ... so, well ... hello! :O I'm new to EverQuest 2. I downloaded the trial on Monday, but then got the full version on Thursday, and am now a level 14 Dark Elf on Mistmoore, looking forward to attempting to betray to Qeynos, despite how hard I've heard the quest is.

Is there any random advice anyone could give me, perhaps? I played EverQuest, but that was at least 5-6 years ago ... and my past 2 years have been devoted to Final Fantasy XI, which I have now retired from. So getting used to a whole new style of play has been both fun and challenging at the same time.

As a scout, learn how the heroic opportunity works, only scouts can use the coin skills to flip between different HO's. Group and ask people to help you about it. Theres reference to it in the manual in the HO part of the guide.

Always use food of your Tier ( 0-9 = T1, 10-19 = T2, 20-29 = T3 ) etc. When you inspect food if it says level 10 its T1, 20 = T2, etc. Good food water will let you regain power and hp faster... alot faster. As a scout use poison, always of the respected tier same as food, you can buy these at merchants.
They work great a poison vial have 5 charge of a 12hour or 100proc poison buff. They really adds to the damage

Visit the broker often and try to sell what you get like collectible etc at the broker. You can sell item while offline by putting things for sale in your house vault. First you need to buy a bulletin board and place it in your house, then you click on your house door from the inside and click house vault. 2 slot will appear you can put your sellable in there. Once you have put your item in there, right click on the bulletin board and click on the vault merchandise tab, set price and close window... boom these 2 items are up for sale for 24 hour. You can buy boxes to but in those two lot to enlarge your selling potential. From the bulletin board window you can also browse prices of item to give you an idea what things are worth.

Thats a good start alot more to say but better if you come up wioth some questions.

P.S. Keep you spell upgraded, really helps

As prom said learn to use Ho's, especialy as a soloing scout. Your Ringing Blow HO is VERY good and can be used many times if you get the timing down right, if the HO comes up swindler's luck just switch it over and it should either be ringing blow or bravo's dance(the rare one, increases attack speed).

But since you are a Crusader, you will be able to stand toe-to-toe and duke it out like Rock-em Sock-em Robots.

One of your main abilities is Taunt - the ability to pull groups to you, and off the mages with tissue-paper-like armor. If your Taunt skill is only App 1, your group mates will drop like spit balls.

Make sure you upgrade your gear and skills. Look on the broker for player-made skills for sale.

Compared to FFXI......

Gameplay:
Everyone can solo.

Stuff actually weighs something.

Money comes in varieties, each is equal to 100 of the one below it. [1pp = 100 gp, 1 gp = 100 sp, 1sp = 100cp, plat, gold, silver and copper in that order]

HOs, aka skillchains aren't quite de riguer yet as it is in FFXI so if a group regularly uses them, think 'JPN'! At least they won't be JP onry. [If you miss JP, there are JP servers, hosted by SE!]

Also for skillchains, the end result is a bit random and therefore the skill/spell needed to advance the chain can be different. The right skill/spell is based on the 4 archtypes so while it's a lot easier to get a HO running it can be tough if your group does not have all 4 archtypes.

There are only two cities. Within each, there are 5 factions but you can raise faction with all 5 simultaneously or just one or two, a lot quicker.

Each character can only belong to one city, period and you get one chance to change this 'alignment' before level 18.

You may only hold one linkshell. 'Linkshell membership' or 'guild membership' allows you new quests and the ability to buy items too. Think about that flag you could get at Rank 9. In EQ2, Guild Level 30 is FFXI's Rank 9 [for now]. Some quests gives you status points which are used to buy items [which cost both status and gil], basically rank points.

There are no rank missions and as of last week, no access quests neither. Go anywhere, anytime at almost any level.

You can put up to 8 x 24 slots [item or stacks of items] in Auction. No time limit and no upfront fees but the buyer has to pay 20% -> 40% 'tax' or travel to your actual room and hope you're in and buy it directly. [Your mailbox is also a lot larger than 8 slots but each character can only mail eq and gil to another character of the same city] There are also no AH, just go to a NPC broker or buy yourself a bulletin board [64 copper] to hand in your inn room [free].

Crafting involves not just putting the ingredients together but also doing it at a specific location [workbench] and then using crafting-specific skills/abilities to counter events. There are 4 possible grades of product and the best is at least a thousand times easier to produce then +2 stuff in FFXI. Aside from that, you'll have to choose a crafting class too as you level and a more advanced class which limits your advancement to specific skills. You cannot get 99 in everything here.

Jobs & Races
Priests classes = whm/blm
Scouts = Thf/war
Mages = blm/^^
Fighters = nin, pld & drg

Race doesn't matter as much. Especially at the higher levels so just pick the most kawaii race you can. (sorry) (no) (manthra) (subligar) (please, thank you)

There is no RSE but you get to pick special skills [must be activated], traits [on all the time] at certain levels and also mob-specific DD spells.

Hope this helps.

PS Go to Antonia Bayle or Lucan d'Lere servers. They tend to be more populated. At this point in the game, overcrowding is not a problem SOE has to worry about.

A little about selling:
You can put 8 x 24 items in your room if you stay in the room while you sell. This also allows people to come into your room and buy directly from you with no markup.
If you want to sell offline, you can only have up to 2 x 24 items up for sale, and people have to buy them from the broker (with the markup). However, you can be offline or out adventuring and your stuff will be for sale for 24 hours. To sell things offline, you have to put them in your house vault, which only ever has two slots...hence the space limit.
Have you found the black market broker yet, by the way? He'll sell you stuff from Qeynosian sellers (at a 40% markup). The Freeport one is in East FP, on an island a little way from the dock.
