Starting EQ2 soon and have a bunch of questionsFollow

I've been following EQ2 since before it was released and I'm finally going to start playing it soon. I have a number of questions about the game before I start playing.

I'd like an updated list of all racial traditions and the other things you can choose for your character when you level. Are any of the racial traditions useful? It seems like the water breathing ones would come in handy if you're a class that doesn't get water breathing spells. How is the regeneration that trolls and iksars can get? I wish it was an innate ability like in EQ1. Which classes get water breathing spells? Are there any cool underwater zones?

Why are dark elves the most played race? I've heard that Qeynos has more players so does that mean that it's full of dark elves that betrayed?

Do EQ2 shamans and druids do less offensive damage than their EQ1 counterparts?

How are the pets that illusionists and shadow knights get? My two favorite classes from EQ1 were enchanters and shadow knights and I found their pets useful. Enchanter pets could do a bit of tanking and were great to use for additional damage when fearing enemies. Shadow knight pets were useful for a bit of extra damage and to use as a decoy if you needed to run since they could take a hit or two while you went to zone.

Do your attributes upgrade after every level or do they stay the same like in EQ1? Do you need to actually use skills for them to improve or do they now improve automatically?

The various artisan skills look interesting. How are they? Are any significantly more useful than others?

I've heard that your characters can all share the same apartment assuming they're based in the same city of course. Is that true?

I want to play on a role-playing server. I can't stand the rampant OOC and other things many players do that ruins the immersiveness of MMORPGs. I like casual role-playing and prefer it when people stay in the context of the game world but I think a little OOC chat in tells, group chat, and guild chat is fine. That gives me two choices. What are the pros and cons of both AB and LD? If AB is a role-playing server and most EQ2 players don't role-play why does it have the largest population? I read that when AB was first launched there were a ton of non role-players that went there. Does that mean that LD has the better role-playing community?

Does faction still exist? Do any of the illusions or form changes effect how NPCs interact with you? I'm very disappointed that enchanters get so few illusions and from what I've read the illusions don't do anything useful. I'm not fond of all this "fluff" nonsense. I love fun spells and that's why I liked playing an enchanter in EQ1 so much but the spells still had additional uses. Depending on the form used you could get past normally KOS NPCs, change your vision type, get regeneration etc. Useful and fun at the same time. Even at level 1 you got a fun illusion spell that turned you into a nearby object.

I have four EQ2 pre-order disks. Can I use the codes from each so I can have up to four different characters with jboots?

Well, that's everything I could think of at the moment and thanks for taking the time to read my post.

That's a lot, but I'll try...

Look under Class/Race descriptions on this site.

Even though each race has some benefits, in the long run it will no tmatter. All races have been made very similiar, so any advantage at a low level will be overcome by equipment at higher levels...no one has innate water-breathing. Mages get a water breathing spell at mid-level. There are only a handful of high-end zones that are predominantly underwater. Everything else will be only short term.

Everyone has the same regeneration ability.

No idea, it's a player preference. Qeynos has more probably because it's a bright, cheerful place, unlike the dark, hateful Freeport.

Keep in mind this is a different game. EQ1 Druid was Root/DoT. EQ2 Druid is Heal/DS/Buff. EQ2 Shamans have slightly more offensive, but they are a Priest (healer) class.

Pets

The pet classes are Conjurer/Necromancer.

Do your attributes upgrade

You will get a few points here and there as you gain levels. Your skills will increase with use to a level cap. And at every 20% of a level, your cap increases slightly.

artisan skills

Certain artisans make certain items that are needed for other artisans. So there is some interdependancy. Recent additions of recipies have made it easier for artisans to make more componenests. End products like player-made armor and jewelry sell well. Components (player-made and rares) also sell well.

Yes, you can set permissions of your room to allow access to anyone. Some in my guild frequently use a posh 2-room place purchased by another guild-mate as their rest-stop.

Not in the same sense as EQ1. Earliest KoS faction issue is in Thundering Steppes, where Centaurs are not agro. But kill one centaur and they will all become agro to you. There is no way to recover that, but eventually they will become grey and non-agro anyway. Other faction is with the various sects in the cities. i.e. if you want to get a certain title fromo the Mage Guild, you must have raised your faction with them. That will also unlock vendor items from them. WHen killing certain mobs, you will frequently see a message like in EQ1, "Your faction with Fuzzy Bunnies got worse..." But there's no visible effect throughout the game.
I've heard that certain illusions MAY allow you to walk into an opposing city.

Yes, but each pair of boots will be locked to that particular account, and to only one character on each account. Meaning, you won't have 32 characters with J-Boots, and you can't transfer them across accounts.

I think I got most of it, I'll let other fill in.

Good luck and welcome to EQ2.

Racial traditions: Some racial traditions are very useful. For example, some races can choose to have a permanent addition to their power pool (+3%) or to their agility (+5 I think) or to their defense (+5). Others, however, function as a sort of buff; as far as I know, every buff-type racial tradition has a 3-minute duration and a 30-minute recast time. This renders most of those buffs near useless. The troll and iksar regeneration traits are this way.

Water-breathing: Summoners do indeed get water-breathing spells, as do all types of priest.

Dark elves: I didn't know that they were the most played race. Qeynos on my server has some dark elves, but not really that many. At any rate, dark elves aren't vastly better than all other races...I guess people just think they look cool.

Skills: You do need to use weapon and spell skills in order to raise them. It's not nearly the pain in the neck that it was in EQ1. If you use a skill regularly in a fight, you should have no trouble keeping it capped, or nearly capped.

I have a general question to add to this list. Is the subscription rate flat? Does it include everything? I looked into Eq2 around it's release and it seemed they were offering various added services for $1 or $1.50 per month - and there were lots of these little add ons. Did they do away with this?

Sorry I can't fully recall what all they were but my impression is taht they were: extra bank slots, extra characer slots, being able to search the Eq2 website for gear, etc.

Actually, I have another question, too. Perhaps I misread, but I think I saw someone talking about raiding at level 30-something. Is this so?

How early can one raid? Is there some benefit, at this lower level? How many are required for lower level raids? Is any of the content instanced?

Let's say I'm in a guild and we have 15 people between levels 25 and 35 who want to go collectively smack something. Is it worth our time, or should we just level up, groupwise?

In eq1, we could form raids but we'd take a huge hit on the exp. Further, to actually raid stuff for better gear wasn't really possible until high levels (in general). Further, often you'd fight to a raid target and said target would simply not be up. You may need it for a quest, but you - and you're raid - would have to come back later.

There are raid level mobs in (almost) every tier. Tier 2 for example... in Antonica, there is the rumbler a lvl 21 ^^^ 2 X group mob... he's a tough fight for 12 teenagers.

In tier 3 - Thundering Steppes - you have Doomsquall, another 2 X group ^^^ mob and there is a raid instance in the new adventure pack which scales to your level like a LDoN.

I'm sure there are others and this is the low - mid end of the game!

The price is inclusive for the game itself, the dollar add ons are features for your station account on the SOE website. They include things like additional guild features and more details on your character screen, (like an SOE sponcered Magelo), or increased storage space for uploaded screenshots... that kind of stuff... and nothing one can't live wthout!
