get to level 6 + 220% with your adventure level and tradeskill level before leaving the isle of refuge.

and don't worry about buying much from the broker until level 20.

Try not to get killed... a lot... it's hard on the XP bar.

If you do 6+ 220% you will get no exp untill you recive your Citizenship. so you will lose all the exp you gain there.

I would say unless you are just doing all the quests on the Isle I would move on at 6L you will get better items and better cash for the quests in your home town then you do on the island.

Just a thought,

While on the IoR, continue crafting in the basement until you reach a level 9 artisan.

When you get to your home city, talk to as many NPC's as you can stand, picking up quests. You will soon have some cash, equipment, and maybe some furniture for your room.

Don't bother buying the Apprentice 2 spell upgrades at the town merchants, they are not much of an improvement. Go to the Broker in the Wholesale Tradeskill instance to find items for sale by players. You'll probably find that most are too expensive for your level.

Make sure you upgrade spells, armor, and weapons as you can afford.

When in doubt, run.

If you are at 220% over then yes you do lose it if the bank is at the 220% mark anything over that you lose.

You can make a bow as early as level 7, but it will be a basic item.

You can also quest for several good bows.

I got a crafting question. When i was crafting..how do i find out what 3 skills i need ahead of time to use on it? I find myself rushing through all 3 pages trying to find it and after 2-3 attempts i get all the ones i need. Its super annoying heh.
#13 Jul 29 2005 at 4:33 PM Rating: Excellent
In the tradeskill tab of the knowledge window, right click on a buff icon and choose examine. It will tell you what skill it is for - example: artistry = cooking & fletching = woodworking.

Once you know which 3 buffs you need, drag them down into an empty hotbar, (you have 10 hotbars available). When you are crafting, just open that hot bar and use them from there.

is there a way to display more then 1 hotbar at once? Any such thing as custum UIs?

Right click on a hot bar and select ' open a new hotbar, move it where you want it and its done.

you can have up to 10 open on screen i beleive, never had to have as much tho, usually 4 is enough for me,

As for the skills, if you right click a recipe and examine it it will tell you what it uses... timbercraft, chemistry, apothecary etc.
So you can know before you start crafting.

Dont worry if its hard to get pristine for a start, at 10 youll get a new set of skills which willl let you influence the durability of the items instead of just the progress.

Tips:

- When you get an event while crafting, if you counter it youll get a succesful round each time ( -10 +50 ) + other skill adjust that you use. So when you have a event be sure to use all 3 of your skill.

- for better result before level 10, i only use 2 out of 3 skill per round ( the one that cost power and the one that cost 3% chance of failure ). This way i keep the durability loss to a minimum.

Anyway, good luck. And a last suggestion scholar/jeweler might not be a bad idea as first character, yuoull always be able to support all your character skill up to 20 providing apprentice 4 and 20+ for your scout types.
Buying one bow every couple level aint as bad as buying 1-2 spell per level. Also from 21 and over youll get skill to make your own arrows as a ranger.

Edit: Oh and dont forget to buy some poison once you reach level 10+, they are cheap and when used ( via activable slot in inventory ) they give a 12hour buff or 100 procs or so, really helps on the dps.

what is an event? And also what do you mean i should only use 2-3 skills a round? i dont know which uses power? kinda confusing.
#17 Jul 30 2005 at 1:01 PM Rating: Good
Event: Sometimes when you're crafting, you'll see a little icon pop up on the bottom of your crafting screen. It will look like one of your crafting buffs, and will have a message next to it. These are supposed to represent problems in crafting...the metal is overheating, the food is spiced incorrectly, etc. You need to "counter" the event by hitting the button with the same icon as the event. If you don't, you could lose health or power. If you counter correctly, you will always receive a successful tradeskilling round (-10 durability, +50 progress).

2 skills per round: If you'll examine your tradeskill buffs, you'll notice you have 3 of them for every type of tradeskill. Of those three, one will always trade durability for progress, one will cost power, and one will lower your success chance. Since it's easy to lose durability before level 10, it's a good idea not to use the buff that takes durability away from you. When you right-click and examine the buffs, they'll tell you if they use power, durability, or success chance.

As explained above, yes you can. I usually run 3 at once and a forth while crafting. You can also adjust the shape of each bar by grabbing any edge and moving the box in or out to give you 2 rows of 6 buttons each or 3 rows of 4 buttons or whatever else you like. You can even go verticle if you want to.

is there any such thing as custom UIs?

Yes there are. Since SOE has decided to support custom interface in EQ2, (unlike they way they hindered it in EQ), there are already a bunch of complete sets and also lots of modules so you can pick and choose for a real custom look!

Look HERE for detailed information.

I don't agree with either of the first 2 pieces of advice given.

Here's the deal:

When you leave the island you will do your citizenship quest, otherwise you cannot gain further experience. The citizenship quest is a good bit of xp. So, if you max out at 220%, then you will get no xp for the citizenship quest. Therefore its better to leave the island around 160% or even less.

Second, I don't agree that getting to level 9 on the island is useful anymore. Its much easier to get material and supplies off the island, therefore its easier to get to level 9 off the island.

Anyway, some useful links:

Tradeskilling:
EQ2traders.com http://eq2.eqtraders.com/articles/news_page.php
eq2craft http://eq2craft.computersims.com/
EQ2traders has some useful getting started guides.

eq2interface.com http://www.eq2interface.com/
Excellent interface site. also, while there, make sure you get eq2maps, its a replacement set of in-game maps and probably the most useful thing available for the game. Avoid if you don't like spoilers.

Ogaming - huge database of quests. http://eq2.ogaming.com/
Avoid if you don't like spoilers. Very useful when you get stuck on a quest.

What i do, i take a couple of hotbar that i dont always keep on the screen and i load all tradeskill ability that i uses. Always put the 3 of each kind together in same order for easy tradeskilling.

Myself they are in order (power, success %, durability) Because durability is the one i use less often, later on, youll use 6 skill per trade
1= Power for progress
2= Durability for progress
3= Success % for progress
4= Power for durability
5= Progress for durability
6= Success rate for durability.

Thats at level 10, from there on i uses 3 skill per round when i am not feeling too lazy. The #4 cost much more power than the #1, something like 17 instead of 9. It really cuts on the number of consecutive combines you can make, so i rarely uses it. Normally i go -- 1, 5,6 for the couple first round ( unless there is an event then i go 1,2,3 since is a 97% chance of success it really accelerate the progress ).

Good thing to note, lets say you start with a couple successful 1,5,6 your green bar will be full. But dont worry its not lost, it keeps adding you can go over the max durabilty. after that you can sacrifice more durability to finish the item quickly and be fairly sure you wont miss it.
