Strangest Technical Issue Ever (Please Help!)Follow

Allright guys -

I have no idea how this is even possible, about a month ago me and my friend completley deleted my harddrive(s) and reinstalled windows and everything due to some issues I was having. Well everything works great, except I just went out and bought EQ II...

Come home, pop it in, and nothing loads. No big deal, right? Well I go to my computer - and it only lists Network places, and my two harddrives.. it doesnt even show that I HAVE a E Drive.... I actually have two CD Trays, both DVD Readable...

Is this... some sort of glitch on Windows or a Virus.. ? Am I missing something completley basic...

I was just thinking maybe they werent hooked up but they are, because when we reinstalled everything we installed everything from CD's.... does anyone have any advice on what I should do... ? Is there a way to make your computer search for the drive(s) ? is there a way to manually boot the CD? Ack ! Please help.

SG

Ok, some possible things to get us all up to speed. First right click on my computer and click on properties. Then click on the Hardware tab. Then click on Device Manager. Then somewhere on the list should be dvd/cd drives. Click on that tab. If there's anything listed double click on it and see if it says the device is working properly.

What version of Windows do you have? If it is WIndows 98 and you have newer DVD ROMs you may need to load drivers for them. If the drives are the same age as the version of Windows you have the drivers should have been in the Windows install. Check the web site for the DVD ROM manufacture to see if there is a driver for your Windows version.

It sure does sound like you are missing your driver. There should have been a software CD that came with it when you bought it. If you don't have it anymore, try downloading from the vendor's web site.

This is a common problem with re-installs. Just be glad it wasn't your ethernet interface that went missing. <grin>

Thanks for the pointers guys -

I may have fixed the issue, for now, even though I'm not sure. I went into Control Panel and there was something there called Disc Detector - at first it didnt do anything, after disconecting my computer to analyze my Drives, and reconnecting it, upon booting up it said that I needed to restart again for it to kick in, so I did, and suddenly it brought up one of my drives, thankfully the DVD one, so I was able to install EQ II - now I'm waiting 2 hours 55 minutes for the patch to download.. gotta love dialup >.<

I still dont know how to get my other drive too work - but for now I think its ok. Does anyone know what the JBoots you get in THIS game are? I got the pre-order disc but havent claimed my boots yet obviously, just wondering what the stats and effect are ?
