No. of Characters Per AccountFollow

#1 Oct 27 2004 at 12:04 PM Rating: Good
I was curious if any of our Beta Testing friends could let us know how many characters you will be allowed to have on your account. Since the job system is not quite as interchangeable as FFXI, I figure that I will be making a few different character to explore the different archetypes.

Hopefully it is at least four, so I can have a character for each basic job.^^

Currently the maximum amount of characters per account is 4.

Just making sure you understood that, it's 4 per account. Not server. You only get 4 characters...period (unless you delete one of course).

next question..

can I have 4 characters on one server? for mule purposes or something like that?

or is it one character per server a-la SWG?

Right now it's four total in any server combination you like.

Not sure what if anything will change at release.

Since one can have something like 350 characters in EQ1, I suspect that this low limitation of 4 is a marketing ploy to push people into multiple accounts. Smiley: wink

That limit is for beta only. Not for the final version.

Thanks for clarifying that. I hope that the character limits on release are more reasonable.

That is incorrect. It has been said by MG that the limit even once it goes live will be 4 characters per account, in any combination. I'll try to dig it up for you.

It's now in the FAQ posted on the EQ2 forums. Four characters per account. :(

That makes me sad. Not because I can't enjoy the game with just 4 characters, but because I doubt that the 4 char limit was put in place for any reason aside from greed.

There's actually quite the discussion, I beleive this is the third thread (two others were locked due to unfortunate behaviour) brewing on the gameplay boards. Folks are trying to be as convincing as possible to get at the bare minimum, eight character slots per account. Of course, there are many who feel that four is sufficient too. I wonder what "The Powers That Be" will do in the end?

Add more characters slots in an upcoming expansion. =/

Sadly, this is exactly the kind of thing SOE has done since they took over EQ1. More bank slots? Yep you can buy into that. Need the raid window? Sure you can buy that also. Want to buy a planar fletching kit so you can stay competitive with your tradeskilling? Sorry it's no drop (it was until they unlocked PoK to all) and only sold in an expansion zone. I'm surprised we didn't have soulbinders available only if you bought another expansion.

Verant never, from release to Velious, tied basic game functionality to buying content expansions.

While I am looking forward to initially playing EQ2, I expect more of the same from Sony. A few years down the road you will only have half the game function if you aren't interested in the expansions.

I agree... That is a shame, because I was hoping to create a few characters just to try out the game, maybe going back to them when I got tired of my main. There may only be 4 basic archetypes, but there's lots of sub classes. It makes me sad that I won't be able to play more of the subs... /sigh

But yeah, I wouldn't doubt they'll release the "ability" to have more characters in an upcomming expansion.
