Does anyone know what the effects, if any, of Microsofts SP2 is on playing EQ2?

Ok, I don't know why this question keeps popping up for EVERY piece of software. Other than the firewall being automatically turned on (it was a part of Windows XP since release. SP2 only beefed it up a little bit, and automatically turned it on), there shouldn't be any problems with running EQ2. Just allow it to pass info through the firewall and you should have no issues. I'm currently running Windows XP (SP2) with DirectX 9.0c (9.0c is required to run EQ2 btw). As of the patch last week, EQ2 will now require DirectX 9.0c. This should be a part of SP2 unless I'm mistaken, so you shouldn't have any issues.

Service Pack 2 enables Data Execution Prevention (DEP) which some in Beta have found to effect performance in game. I have it disabled in EverQuest II but there were other performance problems in Beta so I am not sure if this solved it or not. (In case it did, you can find the options in System Properties --> Advanced Tab --> Performance Options --> Data Execution Prevention Tab, then select the radio for turning on DEP and listing programs to be exempt from it and put in all everquest II executables).

I will find out if this really did anything when i get a chance but right now with it disabled, EQ2 is very smooth with SP2.
