I met all my goals and finished up all the new content but the Odin fight. I parsed myself on one of them on bard, and I was the 2nd highest DPS behind a well geared DRG, so I don't think I'm the problem. I do want to pump up my iLvl a bit more on bard before trying it again. Poetics accessories and WoD gear should help. I'm at 110 now.

I always like to post at the beginning of the reset. Keeps things organized for me lol.

So, this past week:

i114 WHM (i113 SCH as a result)
i111 BRD
Got BRD WoD headpiece (I wanted healer/tank gear, but when you have one run left before reset, you take what you can get)
I should note that I like this headpiece, both aesthetically as well as for its stats
Beat new dungeons
Beat story

Goals for this week:
Upgrade item (WHM)
WoD gear (WHM or PLD)
Poetics cap (WHM or PLD piece)
FSH30 (my gathering classes have taken a backseat)
Make a new glamour for BRD surrounding the Demon Hat.
Beat Odin.

I think that's about it. I'll likely get more done, but I don't like to plan too much given how my FC does stuff.

Hmm, things that I did last week.

Finish the main story. (It was much shorter than I expected)

Run all the new dungeons. (Painfully easy, not even any interesting mechanics from the bosses)

Run DoW. (a little more interesting than the last two raids (Cerberus fight comes to mind), but still pretty easy if you pay attention. Got DRG body.

Made a little over a million gil without really trying. Money is apparently still pathetically easy to come by. (At least if you're a crafter with some Desynthesis skill.)

Spent a little over a million gil on the demimetaria I needed for Supra pick. Got Supra pick and realized that there is nothing worthwhile to mine that I couldn't have gotten with Forager's pick, but at least it looks better.

I finally started remembering to harvest tomatoes, which I then used to make some relish and got a pair of Artisan's specs.

Added a couple more materia to my relic scroll. Still not even halfway to being finished. Since I'm pretty bored of the cookie cutter dungeons and hadn't been running them (one or two a week at most), this one is taking forever.

Upgraded pants and wrists for DRG, up to i109. BRD is still languishing back in the 90s, but I didn't see any BRD gear drop from anything I did last week, much less win a lot on anything.

Finally, ran through the new Delivery Moogle quests. I actually enjoyed these more than the main storyline. Learning the backstory of the various NPCs in the game really helps bring the world to life.

Hmm, that's about everything. After one week, and maybe eight hours of game time I'm all caught up on new content and have nothing but the grind to look forward to...

What exactly is going wrong in your fights?

I think what gets most Odin groups that can't make the final push and win (assuming people aren't like, getting killed and such) is the fact they're not properly saving their resources for the final phase. Odin will start doing Zantetsuken around 15%, regardless of how fast you get him down to that point (although he'll do it earlier, if you're going slowly)

Had a very productive Sunday!

Saturday really sucked. Early in the morning, got my last-stage relic item drop from Hullbreaker, but then went like 0/15 the rest of the day on Qarn HM... a streak that continued on Sunday. I'm like 0/19 now and no drop... same thing happened on an earlier dungeon (already blocked out which one it was), when I went 1/19 on drops.

WOW.. I hope that doesn't happen to me..

I was 1/1 on Qarn HM, then went 1/15 on Sastasha HM and 1/19 on Snowcloak. But dont worry about that, instead pray to everything holy that you get the aurum vale and dzmael darkhold to drop within the first few. I went 1/1 on DD and 1/4 on Aurum Vale. Those 4 runs of vale were painful.

I got through Dzemael Darkhold with about 6 tries not too bad, Tesee got it first run. WP is my thorn for a drop so far it seems but runs are not too bad.

I am afraid of AV that one has always been bad. AV could use the cap raised a little.

Got WP done last night..

My understanding is that the drg or a meele should save that lb2 for that crunch mode at the end. You need some good deeps to be in there. Like Illsaide and I discovered last night, if you happen to get the guy rolling the 3800 hp monk the new dungeons and the new hm bosses are going to punish you. Badly.

For the first time last night I found out that if you die on the demon wall in AK HM at least you can start back at the group of enemies you were on when you were defeated, instead of having to start over. Never knew that until I started to realize that Illsaide on his paladin was out-dpsing the monk.

Small update on progress / goals:

Zodiac for Yoichi:
1. ~400 light atm. After Wednesday's coil this will be my target focus. Got 100 light yesterday by simply running the 3 towers, the expert roulette, and the pvp roulette.
2. Obtained 1 water and 4 bombard cores already. Midway to my 2nd water.
3. No drops from dungeons yet, but I haven't really ran that many either. Gonna do those on tank probably after I get nexus for bard (for the queue times).
4. Still need 3 crafting items, but I'm at 12 million gil so its a drop in the bucket. Had a small stockpile of battlecraft demi III that I just realized a few days ago were 300k.
5. Still need to buy the last 3 100k vendor items. All in good time.

Got carboncoat from my weekly towers quest. Bought earrings and upgraded so now I'm 119 bard. Outside of dreadwyrm 130 upgrades from coil, my Yoichi and 130 poetic weapon, and perhaps a future carbontwine or three devoted to upgrading boots and gloves (and belt, sigh), my bard is done.

Still need WoD drop for the week. Going after blm / tank gear or the bard coat (if it drops).

Still trying to decide whether to gear up the tank or the black mage next.

Coil is tonight 5-7. T10 and T11. got a shiny new tablet that doesn't crash teamspeak. My body is ready. Let's hope RNG blesses bard.

Well, on the last attempt we had a total meltdown and died before Zanzetsuken even started. Smiley: bah

Then the healers sucked. Need adlos on his big hits, healer needs to be devoted to the tank, tank has gotta get out of Valknut, and dps have to stop standing in the puddles.

That expert roulette was frustrating, wasn't it? There was some bad luck on the first boss (targeting the tank with the massive debuff and damaging attack twice is pretty much a wipe), but the third boss almost got me to throw things across the room.

So far so good.

Got last weeks Weekly and WoD drop for Lin.

Hyrist is 50, decked out in ilvl55 PvP gear and I got my first taste of Frontlines Slaughter. I can picture this keeping me very entertained when raiding is burning me out. Still need to get Stoneskin but overall I don't see it being as important as of yet. Helpful, but not necessary to be a contributing force to the group.

I did get pulled back into raids last night so that chopped into the time I wanted to work on storyline stuff but I got an idea: Work on those while waiting on PvP queue. I think I've found balance in that.

Anyways, so far so good!

Oh man, between the monk not knowing to stand behind the towers during the red icon, to the monk and healer standing too close to the towers so the aoe kills them, to my first ever wipe on demon wall due to low dps, to the healer not moving out of the rotating scythe on the final boss after the bacon aoe, to them not knowing they can dps their own slime traps, to the simple fact that the dps was as low as I've ever seen... yep, I'm sure I needed a life refund for at least a portion of that =p

Only thing that I can compare it to was if I was playing on my crap dragoon, on my vita, without my comfy grip extender, while five people in the house were asking me questions about something that interests me, and something cool was on the tv, and music was in the background with snappy lyrics, and all while I was 50 feet away from my router so the ps4 to vita connection gets all shaky. You know, maybe that was what happened... I like to think that. Makes me feel better about the whole thing.

I will say that we brough Juzelle through that with her freshly achieved iLvl 90 bard (I made her a HQ griffon ring to bump her up) and we managed to clear the Demon Wall on the first try. Barely, but we did it. Girl knows her stuff :)

It occurred to me, as I was reading the thread, that I have not run the dungeons in a PUG yet. Even though I've been running roulette, I've always gone 4/4 with friends.

I feel like PUGs wouldn't like me only using regen/medica2 (big maybe on M2) during the trash pulls up to each boss (I will Stoneskin because I'm still fawning over SS2). Most of my tank friends seem to like taking the dungeons 1 pack of trash at a time still (I figure they are getting used to the dungeons as most of us don't play much and these are still new). Even during one of my blind runs, I pulled as much as I could before the dungeon either forced me to stop or overwhelmed me with enemies. Hilarious, but not 100% effective when you don't know what all is going on.

This past week, I've been debating switching out my DPS focus. It seems like an appropriate time to do so given the recent patch. The popularity of BRD overall has not bothered me. I'm aware that it is easier than others, but the look/feel of the job is just, idk, "right"? I'm not sure the word, but it is definitely the job I enjoy the most (even when playing dress-up >_>). However, my turning point began when I realized that, as we gained new members, my FC was becoming primarily BRD DPS. So, I've been trying to decide if I want to switch, and if I do, what else would I want to play. Hopefully I'll come to a decision this week (giving a goal to stay within the spirit of the thread).

Bard is popular, but is not designed to be a dps machine like the meele jobs. Yet it is greatly versatile. Bards are aoe monsters, like black mages and summoners, and our initial burst damage is unprecedented. But after than, all I find myself doing while playing bard is mentally counting down from 14 so I can reapply my dots, checking for procs, watching mp bars, listening for tp requests, keeping foes up if there is a caster present, and running mechanics. If your team needs you to grab something or pass something, bard is doing it, every time.

So in a way, bard is quite difficult to play. I still enjoy nuking with my black mage, but I have let him fall to the wayside. My monk and dragoon are geared, but I have not really had an interest in running with them much so my dps on them is low. My ninja is super geared, but only because it uses bard accessories. I suppose out of all the meele, ninja is the one I am best with, but I despise mudra lag.

As far as summoner goes, I am on PS4. Controller pet micromanagement requires a special type of person. I am not that person.

You will be most comfortable transitioning from bard to black mage. You cant move around while casting, but a black mage's sprint button has no tp consequences.

Indeed. I am pleased with the progress made by the folks in the FC! At some point soon we really should set up a teamspeak channel (if we don't already have one) so we can run some T5 and second coil. My new tablet with teamspeak is great, for the first time ever on the game I was able to talk last night, and it made the synergy much much easier. Typing in the middle of battle is so frustrating. It caused 99% of my issues. I can explain things now and it is excellent.

By the way, final coil treated me awesome last night! New group one shot T10 and took us 5 or 6 tried to down T11 (was having a problem with me learning how to learn a new method for dodging aoe while tethered). RNG blessed the bard, I got the dreadwyrm aiming ears, belt, and bracelets last night! Three out of four drops when I have never seen a bard drop in fcob after 3 weeks of clearning it. Not bad. And I have been guaranteed the tome next week (this group has cleared it a bunch of times so everyone has one), so Augmented ironworks ilvl 130 photon bow you will be mine next wednesday! Will still chase the Yoichi, but will be really good to boost my dps by 15 ilvls in the meantime. So very glad I switched statics. Best thing that could have happened.

Going to second this. They are the two DPS jobs I play, and I don't have any issues transitioning between the two. BLM is all about the big numbers, but in a fight where I know I'll need to dodge a lot, I vastly prefer bard.

For the longest time, I was the top DPS of my friends while on BRD (they were mostly MNK and DRG). I can't begin to tell you how pleased I was when they started topping me. I've always known BRD is not meant to be top-tier DPS, but it's fun trying to push it to its limits.

The running around, arena-management of BRD is actually the part of love the most. I think it's because it allows me the option to keep my eyes on the whole fight while still acting as a leader. When I tank, I'm too focused on tanking duties, and when I heal, I'm more focused on health bars and status effects.

I've played most jobs to at least 30 (rogue is 11, I think). I've had DRG at i102 for a while now, but every time I play it, I just feel too sluggish. I can keep up or beat other DPS who are lower than i110 while on it, but I only really have low tier raids and 4-man dungeon experience on DRG, so I haven't gotten to really test my ability on it versus BRD. My other lvl 50 DPS (SMN i92) only exists because I leveled SCH. My ability on it is laughable at best (and kickable at worst).

I appreciate the input though (from Catwho as well). I think I'll start working BLM up to 50 after I get rogue to 15. It never hurts to have more options (which is my problem for letting BRD go, lol).

Speaking of transitioning, I'm currently having a real issue swapping between my three classes. When I'm on BRD, I keep trying to WHM. When I WHM, I keep trying to PLD, and when I PLD, I switch between trying to WHM and trying to BRD. "Alright, gonna start with a Shield Lob and follow up with Circle of Scorn!" *uses regen followed by swiftcast* "Well....I'm not PLD." My jobs are glamoured very differently to prevent this! Granted, I did make my hotbars on PS3 around the idea that I play different classes, so "Oh Shi.." buttons on PLD do not overlap the buttons for WHM or BRD, etc. This keeps me from blowing Benediction or Hollowed Ground during the first minute of trying to play the wrong class.
