CURSE YOU ARRAPAGO REEF!Follow

#1 Apr 20 2006 at 1:19 PM Rating: Good
Well I zoned into Arrapago Reef to unlock COR and PUP but the screen went black. Now I am caught inbetween zones. My controls are unresponsive so I can't even call for a GM. Eventually it times out and kicks me back to the title screen. When I log back in I'm still stuck in that black void unable to do anything. ; ; any suggestsion? I guess I'll be logging into a mule and waiting a few hours till a GM replys -.-

Sounds like a video card driver issue.

That happened to a buddy of mine in Davoi. Think he contacted a GM out of the game through POL and had them remove him and put hime in another zone.

How could it be a video driver issue? I can log in just fine on my mule, and I was having no problems zoning up to that point.

when this happened to me it was a network thing.

i had to forward the ports the game uses. it had never done this before, but i guess it happens sometimes. forwarding the ports worked :)

The reason I say "video driver issue" is because I seem to recall 2-3 years ago that a similar problem was traced down to a certain set of video card drivers. I don't recall the details, and I may be misremembering, but this does ring a pretty big bell.

This happened to me a while back while zoning out to East Ronfaure from Sandy. I would get the black screen on that character but every other character was fine.

I ended up having to reinstall the game and I have never had the problem again. My guess is you just have a corrupted file somewhere.

This happen to me before but with a different area. If you have a close friend, have him/her log on your character and zone you out. Then you can log in and it should be fine.

Happened to me while zoning into Batallia Downs one day. I called a GM and he said he couldn't help me and that I needed to call tech. So I called tech and they said they couldn't help me, that I needed to call a GM. So I called GM again, got the same guy, and he told me to call tech again. Frustrated (and pretty sure the GM just didn't know what he was talking about), I called a GM again, got a different one, and the new one actually helped me. He warped me out.

Just as gaugechambers said. May have to do with .dat file.

Couple months ago I had no problems walking into sky. Then when an update was released it changed everything. As soon as I zoned into sky, it came to a screaching hault. I was getting about 1fps.

So I had to go into the .dat files and change the music for sky (Ru an gardens) I have no more music for the area but everything is back to normal

Yes had same problem last week. Used to be able to enter Sky without problem. Now its messed up. Funny thing. I emailed Tech and they told me to completely disable my sound card in Windows. Uh huh!

Ok hours later and I'm still not up and running. Here's what the GM tech told me:

I need to do port-forwarding to open up all of the ports ffxi uses. He gives me a bunch of numbers (TCP- 25, 80, 110, 553, 50000-65535 UDP 50000-65535) and off I go.

So I scour the net trying to figure out how to do this and come across this page which has my router on it. Get into my settings, crash the page and have to call 2wire to get it going again. The guy at 2wire is helpful but I can't get those number ranges opened on my ports.

So OK, I figure- why not just open the whole thing? What do I care if I have my firewall up while I play? I opened all the ports and fired the game up and still the same problem. Now I'm installing TOA on my laptop in the hopes I can get into my account and zone out. If you are an expert in this area and have some sort of idea what I'm doing wrong- please anyone offer your thoughts. Thanks.

Well the obvious thing to try is to by-pass the router and see if that is that the problem. If that dosent help, try disableing firewall (if you're on a pc) If none of those actions fix the problem you'll know where to look
