Okay, here's the cool (though rather useless) information obtained by way of FFXITool.

Note: you will have no way to access almost any of this data - it's in an area that was used by the developers for debugging Chains of Promathia missions as they added them. (For those of you with FFXITool, it's the area numbered 6630 for text strings.)

2nd Note: they may have changed things from after this testing mechanism - however, these should be fairly accurate anyway.

* There are only three faces for any given race; these apparently determine the conversational style of the NPC, but nothing else.

* The NPC can be kept out for as long as 50 enemies' worth of fights - whether this is controlled by leveling it up or otherwise, I don't know.

* The NPC can end up using any sort of weapon, but only melee weapons. (No ranged attackers, unfortunately.)

* There are multiple levels and types of equipment given:
- Weapon: 2 levels, 1 type.
- Shield: 2 levels, 1 type.
- Headgear: 2 levels, 1 type.
- Body: 3 levels, 4 types.
- Hands: 3 levels, 4 types.
- Legs: 3 levels, 4 types.
- Feet: 3 levels, 4 types.

This would seem to make for 256 distinct armor appearances, and roughly 166,000 distinct gear SETS assuming no changes made in weapons. (With weapons changes, it's over a million distinct gear sets.)

* There is a "pop time" field which can be adjusted between 1, 5, 10, 15, 20, 30, 40, 50, or 60 minutes - I don't know if this controls the maximum amount of time they can be out and idle, or what, but it's definitely interesting.

Hopefully this information proves to be moderately useful. :-)

Seems most NPC are leaving from "Exhausted" or "meet today's quaota"

exhausted looks like it coems from killing "Too weak" stuff and not getting any exp

quota meet seems to coem from.. # kills? exp total gained? unsure

You can chocobo in Carpenter's Landing.

That makes me a feel a bit stupid, but I was on the sandy side, so I wasn't thinking of that you could go throguh jugner and then get on the barge and coem in backwards.
Also people said "no COP areas" and carpenters landing is a COP area and the NPC showed up fine.

I'm likeing this thread. Been following it from the start.

I of course got my NPC the first day I possibly could, I'm now on day 3. Here's my results:

DAY ONE

I was sooo excited for this. I bought a load of Ranger gear (A job I hadnt touched since the week i unlocked it like half a year ago) lvl 7. Went outside Bastok and Summoned Yoli. We fought some EPs, and I realized she was out damageing me... by alot and everything died in seconds, so I went a bit further... DCs all died like nothing. EMs put up a fight but died easy. A rest later we took on a tough. She used Fast Blase, I used Flaming Arrow, the T soon after died. It was a Lizzy... Thank god it used Fireball and not Baleful Gaze or Plague breath... I gained lvl 8, her gear on her legs and feet changed to lizard gear.

DAY TWO

Same place, same job, same thing. Fought some DCs and EMs until 15 minutes later, disaster struck: Plague Breath! I watcher her HP drop and drop... Knowing she had 10 sec leaving delay, I waited as long as I could, and unsommoned her before she died. Checked her and her leg and feet armor changed ahain, but I'm not sure what to... It was brown and kinda resembles the lizzy gear, but different.

DAY THREE

I was very upset today cause I gained lvl 56 (MC hammer pants) then lost the level cause of our n00b RDM engaging the wrong mob ~_~" then when we got going again, he did it again, and I allmost died again. PT disbanded. I was @200. Being in the ****** mood I was, I thought my NPC could cheer me up, so i headed to Fort Gelsiba. I trained ALL the orcs there, I mean like 120 mobs in the train with lizzies too. Went to summon Yoli "Cannot use that in this area" so I killed all the mobs at once with a cyclone, leaving some lowbies speechless, and went to Garbage ********* It was the closest place to Jueno with Eps. This was all on my 55 THF btw. go to summon "Cannot use that in this area" Finally I went to Altepa, cause I read on here that they can be summoned there, and I knew there were lots of EPs there. We went, and things went GREAT! killed some Dhalamels... well okay, I lied, we killed 2 dhalamals... Then I lined her up for SATA on the 3rd... Big mistake, 3 hits and she was dead. I stayed there for a while and regained lvl 56 tho, so all is good I guess. When I checked her, she was wearing the same gear, still lvl 30, but I could now change her job! I think it's a day 3 thing and not a lvl thing. I changed her to a healer and cant wait till today, day 4, when I gain more solo EXP with her healing me ^_^ This is gonna make soloing so much more fun.

In conclusion for now: THANK YOU SQUARE ENIX! This is by far the coolest thing to hit FFXI yet. I'll update later, hopefully she'll ding 31 today ^_^ later all, have fun with your NPCs!

Yesterday I took my NPC friend Pimy out for a little gob action in Sauromugue Champaign I was WAR51/NIN25 she still level 30 WAR or PLD.

After about 10 kills she left me, she did not level up but I checked her at rendezvous point and she now wear new armour.

I cant identify what kind of armour it is beside it looks pretty but maybe you guys can help me, I post a picture below for you to see her.

********** Click here to see Pimy. **********

Edit:

May I present my NPC friend Pimy* (somehow I want her name to be Pimmy, I dont know why :p

<That's interesting.>

Turtle, try chatting at your rendezvous point and talk to Luto. I really wanna see if/when we get more related quests.

Chocobo riding top, level 1 gear :p

I have to say the NPC quest is one of the best additions they have added in a long while, I don't think they realised how popular it would be the long queues showed that. I hope they continue to refine it and the amount of time you get to keep them out becomes longer. Look forward to calling my npc out each day ^^

You kinda get attached to your NPC after a while >.> Especially when they start voking the mob of you, using flat blade on gob tosses and curing you. This injects so much into the game its untrue, its like a those pet sim things that were all the rage a few years ago :D

Oh and thanks to everyone who posted on this topic, so much useful info.

chatted at RP and she still only talks about the dragon and the girl. Talked to Luto and got the usual "I want to quit this task" or "Anything New" to which she says "Hmmm. Nothing at the moment. Check with me later."

Chocobo riding gear, lol. I wonder whats that is about she wearing that, well she looks pretty and maybe that is why she wear it or maybe she just did the chocobo quest and going home to Windurst, I dont know but interesting.

I also thanks for the good info people post.

Yeah she sure seems to be shocked about dragons, I wonder if you can take your NPC friend into fights with mission 2-3 dragon and solo it that way, maybe as DRG/WHM.

Interesting news, a lvl 52 DRK friend of mine said he has a Galka named Jigowa, and first time out the NPC used Utsusemi: Ichi. I trust him, I just wonder if anyone else saw anything like this? Signs of your NPC being different jobs? (He reported no dual-wielding though)

I may have already been disproven but I have a theory.
Hearing Quotes such as "That's it for the day." and "We have met today's quota." Has got me to thinking that perhaps the NPC's only last till the end of a Vana'diel day or a Certian time.. Who knows.. Well, I will be posting my days and putting the times in when I did it. (typing in /clock) Just to help.

Day 1
Went out to Rolanberry and Whacked some mobs.. I was lvl 56 WHM and She was a shield. We did it for about 35 minutes and she left. She kept the same everything but the body which was something I'd never seen before.

Day 2
Same place same as before same strategy. Only lasted 20 minutes. Had lizard Gear on when I came back. I'll keep this updated too in my own little way.

As promised, results of my 'attacker' style run...

Unfortunately, my parse kinda crapped out, however, it's interesting...

For 10 DC-T mandys in yuhtunga:
Ealdwulf(31RNG): 59% total damage
Amerita (30NPC): 41% total damage
Her average damage for those 10 fights was 791.

Not sure how accurate that is, 'cause I was usin' bloody bolts.

Points of interest:
*NPC gained the ability to double attack(At least, never noticed it before)
*NPC WSes very often and will even sort of set up SCs with you(New option at RP for combat signals makes her tell you when her WS is ready)
*NPC no longer provokes.

Results afterwards:
NPC still level 30 >.>
NPC back in scale mail armor, 'cept for hands and feet.

So far, pure melee and WS damage, but quite a bit of it.

Hello.

This is an awesome thread, I am going to check back on in frequently!

I don't really have anything new to contribute. My experience has been pretty much the same as everyone else. I've only had my new galka friend for one day, and we just went and killed some stuff in Sauromonge with my 75 MNK. He definitely has a realistic Provoke timer, because he used it at the start of a fight that only lasted about 2 seconds, then the next fight immediatly after he did not Provoke until what was probably 30 seconds later. As with others' experience, he left after about 20-30 minutes. I don't remember exactly what he said when leaving, but his Provoke battle cry is "Over here!"

When I checked him at RP, it looked like he had on lizard body, starting rse boots, and either some type of subligar, no pants at all, or the starting galka rse which is also subligar. No level/job change.

Two questions:
1. When you see them at the RP, will they have their weapon on? Jugowa wasn't holding any weapon at all, so I'm wondering if he got jealous of me one-shotting Tabar Beaks with Asuran Fists that he decided to level up H2H lol ;D

2. Is it confirmed that you can take them to Qufim? Tonight I am planning on going out with my 30 ninja somewhere to try and get his level, and I hate fighting mandies on ninja =\

Here is a picture of my new best friend. He is an excellent {Galka} {Furnishings} and I am so happy! <3<3<3<3

Hey guys. I figured I should post my results to help compile that data on the NPCs.

My NPC is a Mithra named Raka.

Day 1

First day out, I got her killed on the first mob by trying to fight a beetle in Eastern Altepa. I thought we might stand a chance with me healing (switched to 34 WM), but she faded quickly. IT was not a good idea. I also didn't have my <ft> macros set up at this point. No change in gear or options.

Day 2

This time, tried DC and EP mobs in Sauromague Champ. The DC raptors smacked her around quite a bit, but I had my macros worked out. We had a couple close calls, but we made it out ok. We went about 45 mins before she told me we'd reached our Quota. Still no gear change or options.

"Day 3"

I then read about the tossing your pearl thing, so I gave it shot this morning (still had 8 hrs to go on recharge). It worked. And I checked her at the RP before I did, no new gear or options. After I tossed the pearl and went to get a new one, the option for "Let's talk about jobs" came up. I wonder if the NPC gets a little exp for just meeting you at RPs?

I set Raka to Healer and headed out to Sauromague again, this time as my main, 64 Sam. She did very well. I kept a tally of all her spells to see if people could give me a calculation of her approximate MP pool. From start to first warning of low MP, she casted Shell (on me), Protect II (on me), Shell (herself), Stoneskin, Slow, Slow, blinda (on me, curing my blindess. This made me very happy), Dia, Dia, Silence, Silence. After telling me she was ready to go again, she went with: Aquaveil, silence, stoneskin, Aquaveil, blink, dia, paralyze, dia, dia, slow.

She also used Red Lotus Blade once as well. When she went to leave at this point, she said "A fruitful day. We have reached our Quota." She was not exhausted, despite the TWTBWW mobs. People have claimed that TW mobs exhausts your NPC. This session lasted about 25-30 mins. I was farming slow. Raptors, Skinks, and the occasional Gob, Yag, or Courel.

She looks to be wearing some sort of metal greeves (hard to tell, with Mithra it's a short piece above the boots. Silver around the thigh, black panties), and what looks like either start or RSE gloves. As they were on the greenish/grey side, I have a feeling they are the start gloves (which doesn't make sense? She got crappier gloves?). The rest of her gear is still scale. Still level 30, no new options.

Something to keep in mind. She didn't actually cure me, because my HP never went yellow, much less red. In other posts, people say with Healer mode, she'll cast Cure III when you go red. My elvaan Sam HP is over a thousand, so it was never an issue.

I have a theory or feeling that perhaps your NPC is RDM? If any RDM's can check the spells and gear to see if that lines up. It looks like it does to me. I'll know in a few levels for her if she starts dispeling mobs for me ^_^.

Quasi-Bump... I'm dyin to hear more as people get thier NPCs out more and more. I logged in Ghelsba this morning before work. The line was down to a dozen or so ppl, so hopefully I'll get this baby done when I get home tonight. ^^

There are posts about suggesting if you drop your signal pearl after the NPC takes off, you can get a new one (with a reset cool down) at the Ron. Point.

Last night, when I did the Skelly fight, just as I was casting the Death Blow (Banish 2), Wagwei tossed out a "/s Right, then!" (could my NPC be British?!). Got me thinking... I'd absolutely die if the NPC talks trash to the mob as you put it away.

While in line (it was short... I was in and out in about 20-25 minutes) I may have noticed something about the NPC races. Most were doing in the low-to-mid 20s per hit. I didnt really pay attention until I noticed a Taru NPC hitting <20 about half the time (16~18, topped out at 24). I didnt recall seeing any of the other race NPCs dip below 20, but I wasnt paying attention until that moment.

That was only a very small sample of fights, so this definately isnt empirical evidence of anything. It may have been that the other people had Dia on the mob or something... But it may be worth while to go watch some fights and take notes.

WTH? Nice AI!

Was silence cast on mobs it would be beneficial to silence, by chance?

Ah. Forgot to mention this. She did both, in that she casted it on a Yagudo Summoner type, and on the Raptors. Don't think it would do anything to the Raptors, but definetly the SMN.

As it appears a new timer solution has come about... for those of you who wonder...

its possible to summon your NPC 3 times in a row... want to know how?...

11:00 EST is the japanese midnight...

now apparently if you drop your perl.. your NPC will give you another one with the timer reset (and can supposibly only be done once per R/L day)

at about 9:00-10:00am EST time go play with your NPC... after he leaves.. drop perl.. head to rodevous point and recieve another perl... after your second run with your NPC.. and it disapears... make sure its past 11:00am EST and drop your perl again.. head to NPC... booya... a third try!

i thought that might clear up some great information ^^

Didn't notice if this was posted or not, but the NPC isn't too bright when it comes to a mob beating on her. Was fighting Funguar or Beetle (can remember which) with her, and a link showed up. Well after the first one died, the second one decided it liked her more than me. She just stood there and took the beating from it, and probably would have let herself die until I attacked it and got it to turn red claim. So looks like they won't fight Yellow Named mobs, even if it's beating the crap out of them.

Ok, a few notes from what little I've experienced so far with these things:

Had an XP pty out in Altepa last night. Whm had to leave, but we had RDM and pally so we figure "why not"? Our RNG brings out her NPC, and it stays out for roughly an hour killing beetles for 120-217ish XP (with chains) [this was her 2nd NPC summoning]. After the hour was up, her NPC mentioned being tired and left. Makes me wonder if there is a random timer or something?? Or maybe it's different in a pty setting, I dunno.
Either way, after the hour was up, I summoned mine to replace hers.

Mine DROVE ME FRIGGIN' NUTS! Keep in mind, I was the PLD, and Everytime I initially voked, my NPC voked .05 seconds afterwards, and then she would randomly voke after that. I ended up using more MP curing HER than me >< This could be EXTREMELY useful while playing mage jobs though. [note: This was my first NPC summon]

So about 30 minutes later, pty is disbanding. I am resting, and I double click on my NPC to send her away. She asks if it's time for her to leave, but then just stands there for a good minute or so. I click again, she says "Ok, I'll stay". It SEEMS that if your resting, they won't just take off on you, but I'd like to see a few other people confirm this.

Hope this little bit helps, or at least leads to new roads of discovery
