great guide however i just have one thing to say about it that i just couldn't let slide,

Under NM camping you put down "professional's who camp to feed their real life family and if you don't mind feeling 'guilty' about it" who the would feel guilty for taking an NM from a gil seller, they are a disgrace to the game and I wouldn't feel the slightest bit bad if they never sold another gil again whether it's to feed a family or not, choose a different RL career!

/endrant, other than that good work.

wow, what a FANTASTIC guide. this should be required reading for anyone who ever says the word "gil"

however, i did not see in the guide or in any of the posts, please forgive me if i missed it in either, a section that, though extremly controversial and generally loathed, cannot be overlooked. i shall attempt to provide it in your format

Gil Buying

The possibly most controversial method of making gil to date. This is the practice of purchasing gil from other PCs via real world currency. It is a generally dispised method of making gil. It has also been offically stated against FFXI rules by SE.

Time: Very little. Just a computer, the internet, and usually a valid credit card to buy the gil with. The time is all spent by the gil farmers.
Research: Some. You obviously must find a provider of gil, and decide for yourself if you can and will trust that person.
Job Level: None. Due to its nature of no skill or time requirement by the client, you can be level 1 and buy gil.
Investment: Potentially high. Obviously there is the added element of real world money that must be invested in this.
Ethics: Practically Criminal. This is the most hated and looked down upon gil making practice there is. It inflates the economy, provides no service to the community, and inferiorates other honest, quality methods of making gil.
Risk: High. Many players will hold it very much against you if you are a known gil buyer, and due to SE's new rules, you risk your very account being suspended or deleated. You also run the risk of being scammed by the gil seller.
Growth: None.

now. please do not rate me down for simply bringing up this subject. let it be known that i do NOT support or promote gil buying. i do not consoder it a valid or honest method of making gil. but the truth of the matter is that many players are using this method to get their gil. if you choose to use this in your guide you can make it as obvious as you want that you do not support or reccomend gil buying, especially since it violates SE rules. i just thought that it if you want the guide to be all-encompasing that this cannot be ignored.

Two comments:
1. When you described time involved in garrison events, you completely neglected mentioning you have to farm for the trigger item first.

2. You also seem to have left out picking chests and coffers. Many thieves do mostly this to earn thier gil.

4.18 Running a Casino

FFXI, like most MMORPGs, allows you to make a verifiably random die roll. It is very simple as a character to make up some odds and invite people to roll against you to win a bet.

Time: Some. There is no preparation required to run a Casino, and it is easy to pick up and leave when business dries up.
Research: None. Basic math skills are all you need.
Job Level: None. Level is irrelevant to this entirely player-run enterprise.
Investment: Substantial. Without a large bankroll you will not be able to endure a potential run of bad luck.
Ethics: Mildly questionable. Like any real-world casino, there is debate over the ethics of encouraging people to gamble. Since Vana'diel is a fictional shared-universe this is much less of an issue than the real world, and is generally seen as a trivial entertainment. Some people may even respect you for starting your own business. However, since there is some morality involved your reputation can certainly suffer depending on who sees you shouting your advertisements. Although not a huge impact on the game economy, you should definitely consider your own sense of ethics before setting up shop.
Risk: Minimal. So long as you make appropriate odds, take cash up front, and have a sizeable bankroll, you can play statistics to make money over time. Just like the real-world casinos you may lose to individual gamblers, but inevitably you, as the house, will win overall.
Growth: Minimal. You may experience significant repeat business as a casino that is reputed to be fair and give good odds. However, overall, this growth is very small.

f*** that ! casino wh0re are f****** lame lazy noob.

Doh, you're right! In fact there have been a lot of great ideas that I need to integrate. (And also a lot of wonderful compliments- {Thank you.} {Thank you.} {Thank you.} ^.^)

I'd like to apologize to everyone for not keeping up with this guide and (ESPECIALLY) for not getting my act together and submitting it to Pikko for the guide section. She told me a loooong time ago that I need to put it into html format for her to do that.

I got promoted (quite a lot ^.-) at work recently and I've had murderously little time to contribute to the community. I'll do better, I promise! :D Thanks for all of your support.

Brilliant guide. Well laid out, informative, and answers many questions. One of the things I like about this guide personally is that it's not a "How to get rich quick using <Insert Method Here>" guide but more a "How to make gil in general" guide. This really lays out the options and different factors involved. Or to sum up what I said in two words...:

You win. ˆˆ

This is one of the best, most comprehensive posts on any FFXI forums. Most of all, it is timeless. There is no information in here that will ever become "outdated", because the same basic ways of earning money remain the same. People will never stop paying powerlevellers, casinos, teleporters. People will never stop buying equipment and consumables from the AH. BCNMs will (probably) never stop dropping items that cannot be obtained anywhere else, and people will never stop needing those items.

I am also very pleased to see the Ethics category used intelligently in terms of inflation. It is a topic that people continue to misunderstand (note the post towards the bottom of page 1 that says repeating the airship Dropped Item quest is "noble" because you're returning a lost item -- this activity actually hurts the economy if anything by introducing free money).

I don't think I saw this one in the thread so here goes...

ENM 30:
Time: Moderate. Taking a random party is not a great idea for this. People who don't or won't listen to a party leader can make this infinetly more difficult than it needs to be. Once you have a regular group and have done 1-2 and understand how it works, it will take you less than 1 hour to climb each spire and beat the ENM. Farming recollections for animas can add time. Each ENM cannot be repeated for 5 RL days.
Research: Low. Basically just need to research Promy basics and what recollections you need to make animas with.
Investment: Level 30 gear, cheap food, 2k per anima, Promy access.
Ethics: Like BCNM its just your party in the ENM, no ethical conflict.
Risk: Low. Initially I wanted to say moderate because getting to the top of the spire can be a challenge for some. However, once you've done it a couple times, and if you have someone who is good at judging agro distance to follow, the risk diminishes. Plus the ENM boss is MUCH easier than the main Promy boss. If it takes your party 4 rounds of animas to beat the promy boss, you will likely be able to beat the ENM with only 1 set. Our LS set the record on one run without any animas at all. Once inside the ENM there is NO exp loss even if you all die. However the rewards can be good to spectacular. 3000xp and 3 memory clusters for every win with the chance at a Vision drop which can be traded in for a lvl 35 earing. We have gotten 6 visions and the earings sold for anywhere from 60k-4mil. Vision drop rate appears to be in the 50-60% range.
Growth: A bonus for doing ENM runs is that you can help people finish promys also which will open up new COP missions and more ENMs. Once you complete the ENM you have the opportunity to re-enter the web of recollections, so you don't have to climb the spire again to do the Promy after the ENM. 3k xp is an easy and cheap way to level any job that you have which is 30+. I've gone from 30-36 nin this way. Added bonus, you will get a good amount of Beastman seals farming animas, plus bits of XP here and there that adds up suprisingly fast.

Link to Promy info:
http://ffxi.allakhazam.com/forum.html?forum=10;mid=1096059496417947752;page=1

Have fun!

Edit: I just wanted to add that a lot of people think you need some super fancy party setup to beat Promys/ENMs. While it would be nice if we could all have a rng, 2 smn, a nin/war and war/nin and blm or whatever, it's not even close to necessary. We beat an ENM with 5 people that included a nin, mnk, blm, whm, and war. We've had all the party setups I can imagine, and in all of our runs we only had a rng once.

Not that I am faulting you or encouraging you to change it, but your chocobo digging info is pretty off in more than a few areas. I don't mind though, because most diggers agree that there isn't enough room on the servers to support a lot of diggers anyway.

And as far as casinos go, I would rate the ethics of it as highly questionable. There are more than a few people (myself included) who think people that stand around Jeuno all day spamming 3-6 lines of self-serving text to be one of the most lazy ways of earning gil. So if people contemplating running a casino don't mind getting blacklisted and shunned by a lot of people, not to mention zero lack of respect for any in-game achievements earned through their lazy gil making methods (how much applause should someone get because they bought a SH+1 when all they did was spam all day), then feel free to open one up.

alrddy rated you up, I know how bad making gil is, I had to get austere set for SMN/BLM and I wish I knew of this thread beforehand, XD it was so hard, then a GOD SEND got me the money XD My good friend left, he did SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO much for me, he said he was leaving cuz the game "seemed too much like a chore" well I said that is ok, and if a game isn't fun then it isn't meant for you, but anyway, he gave me THE ENTIRE ERRANT SET, and he gave me a heapload of gil, 2 death earings, 300k gil, holy phail/holy ampulia or whatever, and A LOT MORE STUFF. like I said, I wish I got to this site earlier :P well rated up thank you for the help if I need more money I'll come here :D
