No Final Fantasy game has ever had any sort of alignment system. You're the Hero. By definition, you're the Good Guy. Maybe the ways you choose to defeat Evil aren't so honorable (Thief, Black Mage, Dark Knight, etc.), but you're still the protagonist.

I think you just have to look at the conspiracies in each country to decide really...And depending on your P.O.V. it's hard to see anything wrong with ou ation's power struggle with the others, instead we see other countries as "evil" and we are in the right...but at other's P.O.V. we might be as bad as Orcs..^-^

Just depends on the way you look at it. And being a Black Mage or Dark Night would just be more fun to those aiming to be evil, since they leave such a dark image in mind. (Not that all of these charas are bad!! ^^;;)
