Hi. I am new to EQ and recently (yesterday started out a brand new Dwarf Paladin on Drinal, b/c it was perferred. (Actually im not brand new: I played using my free month in July using the old tutorial and got to level 6 with a froglok and lvl 5 with an Iksar, but with vacation and the sratrt of school didnt pick it right back up) Now the tutorial doesnt work but thats not the point of this post!

Anyway, i went straight to Kaladim and began the newbie armor quest there (POK VERY LAGGY, but im getting a new comp so..) I satrted collecting items for it and noticed that the only people in the zone were high 60s of 70. I did manage to getmy froglok to his old zone before the retake of grobb and noticed the same thing-empty. Is EQ going downhill with low lvls, i mean i cant even find a group- whats up? In my short time in the tutorial grouping was easy and fun, and i expected the same here. Where should i go? , apart from tutorial (which i will when i get a new comp.)

solo till 20 or so, then use the /lfg menue to find others of your lvl 20 group with.

grouping IMO at lvl 1-20 is just a waste of time.

1-10 kill in starting area, kill till you are killed, no exp loss or gear loss, you die, poof, full hp and mana, go kill till die again.

once lvl 10 you have to start to be carefull as you will have to goto your body after you die.

/shrug

game isn't dead for the low lvl, is just sooooo many zones, that the lfg people are spread all over. so try the /lfg ;-)

Go to Paludal Caverns on Luclin from 15 till 20. Fast exp
And most would say DSP till 46..although i dont agree -.-
If you have Depths of Darkhollow..
well...you started a bit late. MMs get nerfed tomorrow

I would not reccomend MM's untill 40's if you are new to the game since you won't learn the true mechanics involved in being the good old fashioned meat shield(tank). For sure try to hit pauldal caverns it's one of the best zones till low 20's. The next zone i reccomend is the first 1 or 2 floors of ToFS i am curently leveling there with my sk friend and my berzerker. The mobs have very low hp's and are easy to pull. 40's start some MM's and LDoN's since you get more than 1 point per LDoN by then. Hand in Velks a bit and CoM till 46. Once 46 you can get to the Planes. I would reccomned PoJ but no one seems to like it although it's is great till 52 or 3. mid 50's is going to be a pain becasue of the interesting damage cap that hits in all of the other planes like PoI and PoN but they are good xp. GE is a hard place to get a group but very good if you do. once you hit 62 try HoH or BoT those offer the best XP opportunities andcan get you all the way to 70. Also ince you hit 20-25 start looking for a guild. This can be very helpful for learning tactics and getting gear and level up help Oh and make sure you have 2 gigs of ram or els PoK will still lag. The game is really fun you just have to get used to it. Once you break in you'll enjoy the game throughly.

A quick note to Deodhlais.......EQ used to be the biggest MMO out there but I think WOW holds that title by far now.

Everquest does not have a large number of new players joining.

Almost all players levels 1-69 have characters at level 70 and play their secondary and tertiary characters commonly called "alts" from the word alternative.

As to grouping, many Everquest players multi-box, that is play more than one account at the same time, because Everquest uses a forced grouping system. This makes it hard to find groups accepting other players.

Everquest is still going strong for current players only. It is going downhill in that new users cannot join in and find thousands of people to socialize and progress with.

Yeah, that tends to happen after 6 years. We'll see how long WoW lasts.

I read an article in PC Gamer that stated the average time to level up to 60 in WOW was 21 days. The zones that a 60 in WOW can play are few and far between. I don't think WOW will be around nearly as long as EQ. The game play is to limited at the top end.

... I dont know how this degenerated into another eq vs wow thread but dead horses everywhere are shivering.

As far as the op question....

The answer is yes it has been for a long time. I very very much reccomend you make a more soloable class. I recently dinged 70 on my SK. I had yet to raid him so he was by no means uber. I couldnt even find people will to go to WoS they all wanted MPG or RSS. Both of which I was not capable of tanking. I gaurentee you will run into this same problem.

I HIGHLY reccomend you make a class that is more suitable for soloing. Tank classes are very gear dependant and group dependant. Playing a tank class as your main in EQ is the most frustratiing and time consuming route possible. Once you hit 50 you can look forward to being grouped with people in the low 40's of other classes because that is all you will eb able to handle. So the xp for them will be ok and for you it will be miserably slow. No class levels slower then a tank, period.

If you enjoy meleeing I would play a beastlord. The can solo and are highly desireable in groups. Also the melee DPS classes area good choice. They cant solo effectively past 40 but they can atleast go to level appropriate zones. EQ however is ridiculously unbalanced in favor of the caster classes. If playing a caster is something you would enjoy make life easy on yourself and play one of them. Because of there utilities they all solo well and are highly desireable in groups.

Bottom line is groups are becoming harder and harder to find and will continue to trend that way. Also a higher percentage of the remaining eq population is in hard core raiding guilds then ever before. People in these guilds tend to build groups through the guild channel and not /lfg.

Bottom line .. join a guild and hope they have active members you can group with. Be proactive and try to buid your own groups (this isnt as effective as it use to be) also seriously consider playing a different class.

good luck!

WoW holds the title for most people currently playing, but NOT for content.

Another trick to try and find people your level is to type

/who all 10 (or whatever level you'd like to find)

This will bring up all the level 10's and what zones they're in.

My 11 year old son has just recently started to play EQ so now I have to not only share but every few mins answer questions similar to this. At first he got addicted to the tutorial where he has mastered every single quest and leveled 6 characters on I think Bertox was the server he chose where he thinks he owns the place! whatch out Bertox players you now have a new pain in the *** but he is cute! Anyway once he found a class he really enjoyed he ventured out and was given a quest immidiatly to go speak to an npc! well he has been doing those and is having no problems leveling or finding group..he was even guilded within 2 days! my best suggestion is go with it! He's loving it!

Now the tutorial doesnt work

Ahh tutorial does work and has also been inproved to what it was, you can now stay there till lvl 10(11?) and there are many quests to be done.

Check it out, it's a good place to make friends who will grow with you. I have a lvl 8 alt (who is unknown to my friends and guild) and she has a lot of fun in Tutorial and has met a lot of nice people.

You may also want to check out other servers and see if their low level population is bigger then the one you are now on.
