What do you spend most of your in-game time doing?Follow

It's not "uber only" game already? Guess I don't play enough, seems that way to me. Most times I look for a group (particularly on the LFG Tool) I find people looking for lvl 70s or at least like 65 and up.

I feel much like the poster up a few from here, I miss the old times. Yeah, all the /ooc's from people selling stuff in East Commons could get annoying. And even then I never seemed to be high enough level to do the things I wanted to do. But damn it was exciting and almost any zone you went to had a good number of people in it. I'd sure as heck start up a new character just to do some more killing in East Commons and West Commons and Oasis and North Ro south ro and all those great zones where you can find nobody anymore. oh and how can I forget Butcherblock, damn that was a great zone.

Now what do you get? A tutorial to take you through lvl 10, tradeskills that give the recipie to you and you don't lose your items for ******** up (ok, I am a bit happy about that, but don't you kind of miss the adventure of that?) A Find button to show you where people are. Seems they think we need the instant gratification, the here take my hand I'm taking you lvl 20 sit back and enjoy the ride. I felt such joy in even doing the most simple things back then because where I needed to go, what I needed to do was a bit unclear, I was adventuring, trial and error, will this be the right guy, will I get mauled my something so hidiously far above my level that I'll pee my pants in horror. Perhaps some of that is still there and I just am not high enough level to get to it, that is where this message started after all isn't it?

oh yeah, this is a forum about what I do most in game....guess I wait, wait to find something thrilling to do, waiting for a group that I can join to do, really, anything, waiting and hoping that one of my friends will log on, waiting till I think I've spent enough time waiting and I log off to go find something better to do

I spend about 85% of my EQ time raiding (which I love doing), 5% tradeskilling, 5% working on level alts, and 5% working on quests (signets, DoD spells, DoN quests, etc.)

Briguy TheOmega (70 Beastlord)
Briiguy TheOmega (40 Ranger)
EvilBri AntiOmega (38 Necro)
All on the FV server

i am part of a similar group on Quellious server, and it's the best group i've had in the almost 4 years i've been playing. we all like to maintain our various guild affiliations, some of us are in the same guilds, and we all like to play together. and even when one guild's raiding, we still have "The Channel" to talk and joke. i'm not interested in any official eq convention, but a reunion of sorts with everyone from my channel would be really cool. my next goal is to get everyone using a mic so we can really talk.

Majority of time in EQ is spent LFG.

Xaanru explained this well elsewhere: it is = to level 5 experience but... the interpretation issue is that it is equal to actual amount (i.e., 10 xp) versus percent (i.e., 10%). This difference between the 2 ideas is huge. [If I have misquoted you Xaanru please set me straight]

Having just got DOD, my early trials of shrouding put me in agreement with Xaanru that killing reds as a level 20 is going to take a long time to see any movement at 65 when the shroud is off.

I have many times sat for an hour with /LFG up, and not gotten a hit. Then i will decide to take the bull by the horns, and form my own group. It usually takes 15 to 30 minutes of looking, asking, deciding where to go, negotiating, and then i have a full XP group.

Yes, that is 15 to 30 minutes of non stop typing, and for a 2 fingered typist that is a ton of work, not to mention trying to keep 4+ conversatitions straight in my head at the same time. This part is actually harder then the killing the mobs part, BUT IT IS NECESSARY! Someone has to form the group! I have many times turned on LFG and seen 15+ people LFG within 5 levels of me but none of them was actively trying to form a group.

Then we go on the DoN/LDoN/(insert zone name here) that is agreeded upon, sometimes we kick butt, sometimes we die quickly and painfully. Sometimes we play for hours, sometimes it starts to break up in less than 30 minutes and i start again. Those are the breaks, it happens, and i get over it.

Everytime i do this i make new friends, occasionally i meet someone i put on my "Never invite to a group again" list, but all of the time the effort is worth it.

One time i met an low level (27) enchanter that had to log off 15 minutes into an LDoN, i understand emergencies come up, but we tried to continue and we SOOOO got our butts handed to us after that. A week later she invited my wife and I to her guild. We did not accept, but i kept her name in my friends list. Eventually we joined, and now I am now one of the primary officers in that guild.

If i had just sat on my butt with /LFG on this would have never happened.

If you are not invited to join a group, form one yourself. It is worth the effort.

By the way, this has worked for me at every level from 25 up.

Amen thats the EQ as well as any online game should be played.
1 Cant find a group go explore who knows what you will find.
2 Tired of exploring sit and build tradeskill lvls.
3 Tired of sitting working on tradeskills go farm items needed for the skills.
4 Tired of farming strike up a conversation with anybody who speaks ooc in the zone ( its easy just type /tell playername hey whats up?)
5 Dont wana talk to strangers well good luck finding a group.
6 The whole time your doing all these other things hit the hotkey you should have already made for /ooc lvlblank whatever lfg.
P.S. number 4 is a great way to build a friends list and find groups.
P.S.S. EQ and any other game for that matter is only what you make of it, so if you make it fun it will be fun, if you dont you wind up griping to everyone else in the world that you cant find anything to do in a game that could be played for a lifetime without doing everything there is to do.

And one other thing why dont all you high lvl players that are whining about being lfg all the time buy the depths of darkhollow exp then shroud down a few lvls and group with all the mid-lvl players who are whining about not being able to find a group, or the high and the mid-lvl players can both shroud down some lvls and group with all the low lvl players that are whining about not being able to find a group. As for me if i find a group cool if not i still have fun because the game is just that.

P.S. lvl 52 necro lfg on the rathe (karana) if you dont wana group doesnt bother me im having a blast!!!!

This is the essense of the issue, for those who spend a lot of time /lfg. It does take some initiative and it also takes a bit of time and organization, but crap, like Kasandra noted, even a 2-fingered typist can have success with this.

It's somewhat akin to putting forth a little bit of effort to get one's desired result. Sure, it is easier to just hit /lfg and wait, but that's a purely passive approach. The active approach is to shoot some tells about and form up the group from those /lfg.

I'm not demeaning or belittling those who defined /lfg as their most common time consumptive activity, it does bite to spent time doing such. But, I know for a fact, that taking an active approach to this will reduce the amount of time spent without a group and increase the number of groups acquired during a session.

Seems with all these people lfg shouldnt be no problem forming one .
#90 Oct 14 2005 at 4:09 PM Rating: Decent
this is exactly the same situation (including private chat channel) that my friends and I use on Cazic-Thule.
We all met in 20's doing LDoNs and have stayed friends and are also all in different guilds.
I may close the Guild Chat window from time to time, but I never close our chat channel.

I think the biggest problem is, that Sony has made the mobs and zones so tough lately, that if you dont have good gear/weapons, years exp playing EQ, lots of AA or knowlegde of how the other group members play, you will lose more exp than you will gain. You end up spending more time on corpse runs then killing anything and players are getting frustrated and leaving groups or even EQ itself.
I know for a fact that Sony themselves have run me out of the game. Its no longer fun. Now although i still have an account and log in from time to time, id rather watch clouds go by.

lfg, or afk is what most people normally are now, or both. probally a quarter of the players in eq are afk in the bazaar on mules. then theres the players that are afk until raid time comes. then theres your casual player with lfg up but no one needs a casual player, they need an uber raider. as for low levels. people are only low levels for a week. now people are either e-bayers or pay someone to pl them. a twinked warrior can easily solo from 1-46 with just a fungi swiftblade of zek, cof, and boc(which a ton of people seem to have now days.) then after that they go to LS mtns and get buffs and solo in sol b till 51. you can go from 46-51 in one day there in about 7 hours, and thats w/o a pl. Then from 51-55 u can solo in poj. then theres some random necro kiting in pov for metallic liquids to get his TS up who lets you join him and get 55-62. then people hit up wos till 67(70 if your a tank) and then from there game is open to them. all of this takes the course of mabye a week, mabye two.

As opposed to the 100% afk automated Bazaar now? No, I'll take the EC bazaar back.

A few months ago on my server, Glossy Drake Hides were 10k each. My computer went down and I was out of the game for a month. When I came back, the only thing that had changed was the price of the hides, now the average price of 35k. The reason for this is because of the automated bazaar. You have one person completely buy out the supply available in bazaar and sell them for twice as much. They set up a buyer with a price of say 25k. People think "Hell yeah, I'll sell it for 25k instead of 10k" So the entire supply goes to one person who is at the keyboard once a week. And it isn't stopping there. By doing this, he will drive the price up to as far as he can take it. To make matters worse, that's only the first of two viscious cycles. The second, to buy this crap, most people will buy platinum with real world money. Where does that platinum come from? It comes from the person driving up prices who has more money than anybody needs that he sells to people for realworld cash so they can afford his crap.

Give me the days of EC bazaar. So you can't be lazy, get over it, it's worth it to stop this trend.
