Warrior weapon specialties?Follow

I decided to start a Warrior and am not sure what to do on weapons. In the tutorial I only used 1HS and 2HS. Is it ok to stick with these two or should I be working on the blunts as well? Most Warriors I've met only using slashing weapons. Suggestions are appreciated. Thanks. Smiley: smile

Those were the only 2 I worked on at all until I was in my 50's. I had read that you should keep all of your skills up but never really thought it was important. Well I was wrong! Definately get weapons of each type and keep your skills maxed on all of them. If you are levelling too fast to keep em maxed each level then make sure every 10 levels or so stop levelling and get em all maxed. You will thank me later!

Why? You really never know when you might get a weapon you need to use that is piercing or blunt. I got a Truncheon of Doom recently which is so great when you don't have a slower in your group. It procs a 50% slow. My 2h blunt skill was 54 when I got it! Doh! Hard to tank and keep aggro while working up a skill that is that low.

Besides, you are a WARRIOR!!!! You don't get spells or poison or anything, you get WEAPONS! Be the master of weapons and max your skills. : )

I've used slashers, and blunts. I use piercers too - but only on a single mob, the cragbeast queen.

you -can- go fine with even just 1hs, it just limits your opportunities

Usually, just to build a rounded charachter, whatever you can work, work.

I prefer 1HS to 2HS or blunt, but my warrior is currently using a Lammy and a Centi Warhammer, for decent results.

Most effective way to keep things maxed is to use one, only, until it is maxed. Once it is maxed, switch.

When you level, switch back, so that you always have one type maxed out.

It will be much easier once you get dual wield (level 20, IIRC) and double attack (level 14, IIRC)- the skills just move quickly.

Consequently, I have not seen a single warrior, in a REAL long time, who was using a 2HS, but I have seen plenty of warriors that are duel wielding a Sword of the Bloodsworn and a Copper Hammer of Striking.

Warriors get dual wield at 14. You may be thinking of Double attack when you say level 20.

Keep developing your skills as you may. Dual wield is indeed a good way to do it. There are some nice piercing weapons out there, both 2h and 1h. And a rock smasher club is a great 1hb weapon.
Or think up some reason you will only use slashing weapons and go with those.;)

To be honest it's so easy to round out a charicters weapon skills that it's pure laziness not to do it.

Bu lvl 20 you should have at least 4 weapon skills maxed for level and the other well on the way.

Just buy a low delay weapon of each type and switch when you have the 5 skills that you can get per level. pump the 5 training points into the skill you are still working up.

Remember that Piercing works for 1 and 2 handed so you are only working 6 skills (1+2HS 1+2HB Pierce and bash) and kick.

That way if a great weapon drops whatever type you can use it.

Thoryndar,

You will usually see a warrior using 2hand slash when they are not the main tank. While this isn't very common for groups it is more so in raids. 2h slash is used for DPS but less "swing aggro" and of course you don't want all the aggro procs you get off of your normal 2 1handers for aggro. Also, if you happen to come up against a mob with a damage shield and no way to dispell it you'll take a lot less damage using a 2h weapon than 2 1h weapons.

Along with less riposte damage, IIRC, when fighting against a rampaging mob. I already knew what you stated above, but as I am not a hardcore raider, I seriously didn't know that most warriors that are not MA use 2HS. It does make sense though, I wouldn't want to be part of a chain heal that keeps getting messed up because of 3 people all stealing AGG.

Thanks. =)

it's the same damn thing =p. aggro is based off of potential dps, not # of swings.

of course, yeah, half the procs is a pretty big deal.

what does rampage have to do with it?

I think he means enrage.

rampage is found plenty, even in non-raid situations.

and on enrage, unless you're raiding crushbone, if you don't turn off your attack completely, you're gonna die, even with a 2h.

Thanks guys, this information really helped. I bought weapons of each type to work on my skills. I wish I had known about working on weapon skills when I first started EQ. My first character (now a level 54 Paladin) only has 1HS and now it is next to impossible to raise my 2HS. I've been dumping my skill points into it. I won't make that mistake again! Smiley: smile

Wanna raise weapon skill? Go find a Guildmaster and beat on em, they hit for crap and are DB to lvl 70's. My war has maxed out skills in all weapons since you never know what raid mob might come along that needs specific weapon, Vishi n the eggs spring to mind.
