I have purchased eq:evolution and am waiting for it to come.I have a few questions

1. Is there any other expansions absolutely needed for a true noob at the early parts of the game?
2. I understand i will have to solo a lot, but that doesnt bother me bcuz im pretty sure i want to play a frogluk or gnome necro. But what server is the best for noobs, as in can i get a group every once in awhile?

Thanks,
Soon to be newest addition to EQ

1) none of the content that isnt in evolution is mandatory for a noob. However, LDON is great xp for a noob at low levels and is whaere u will find alot of groups. DoN also has the guild hall etc which allows u to summon your corpse and get a convenient rez. Not as big a deal if you are a necro but still a nice feature. Once you get up in levels I highly reccomend buying the expansions but that can wait until you see if you truely like the game.

Also I think necro is a great class to start with.

2)As far as servers I would reccomend Stromm or Mordern Rasp. I think they have the most active low level population.

Good luck and dont be afraid to psot any other noob question you might have.

Yea really The Everquest platinum is a better overall deal then evolution. With the platinum you pay $10 more but you would get LDON and Gates. While gates is absolutely useless unless your lvl 60+ in a high end guild, LDON can be useful. Bad thing is your goign to pay $10 for LDON. I imagine the evolution was $10? So if you buy LDON your right back at the $20 you would have spent for Platinum.

the only thing Gates might add for a lower end player is the free tradeskill quests (not worth the hassle IMO though), and sometimes you might get a group in natimbi at lvl 50ish. But with the insane procs and DPS of a gates mob even lvl 50ish groups can be ruff.

Yeah, i was going to get platinum, couldnt find it anywhere.
So, i bought evolution for 8 and ill get ldon and if i keep going in the game ill will get the rest.

Where can i find what the "hot zones" are that i hear about for xp?
Also, which starting city is better, a frogluk, or a gnome.

Thanks

DoN has the guild lobby where you can summon your corpse and miss the nasty corpse runs.

"Where can i find what the "hot zones" are that i hear about for xp?
Also, which starting city is better, a frogluk, or a gnome."

here are the current hot spots:
The Warrens 5-25
Netherbian Lair 15-30
Echo Caverns 20-40
The Scarlet Desert 30-45
The Tower of Frozen Shadow 30-45 (not sure about that, revamp?)
The Hole 40-60
The Grey 40-50
Howling Stones 45-60
The Halls of Betrayal (Chardok B) 45-60?

i would recommend staying in the tutorial till 10 (or 11 if you cans squeeze that extra experience out). also, as a necro, i would recommend kurn's tower on kunark as a next destination. great dungeon full of undead with great exp.

as to which city is better, i don't think 1 is necessarily better than the other. the frogloks are currently living in a tent city in the rathe mountains after gukta fell to the trolls. one good thing about the outpost of gukta (tent city's name) for a true newb, is that, when u first go to thte city, you have a small quest that involves running around to the bank andseveral merchants (all the tradeskill merch's). the bank part of this quest is great for a true newb, the banker gives you 5 gold! i would also have to say that the layout is a little more centralized/compact than akanon (ie, merchants of 1 type are next to other merchants of the same type). there is only 1 necro spell merch here though, and he doesn't carry all spells. akanon, the gnome city, is a beautiful city flled with clockwork/mechanical devices. the necro merchants here sell most buyable (non-researched) necro spells. the layout of akanon can be a little confusing. merchants aren't centrally grouped; ie 1 smithing merchant is here, another is there, the 3rd might even be in the windmills outside the city (oh yeah, they have windmills in steamfont! how cool is that!) also, the area where the necro guildmasters/merchants are is an abandoned mine area. as such, it is very much a maze. very easy to get lost in. anyway, welcome to eq, good luck, have fun, and be safe. and if you start on stromm, maybe i'll see you around.
