For the last month i have put some serious thought into this idea. The idea is to create a new server with no character transfers so its like starting all over. i have talked to many people that have played this game and the fact is now on all the servers there are two different groups on every server they are 1. the uber leet people that always group together 2. the people who have a hard time getting groups. I feel strongly if you create a new server that the second group of people will enjoy the game more and people that have left the game will come back. i got this idea from the game Dark Age of Camelot because they created two new servers and they got old customers that had left the game for different reasons and new people to join in on the action. Those new servers they made were the classic servers. Personally i want a new server with just all the expations from PoP down including LDoNs and features from other expations like mapping and guild hall, but even if you made a new server with all the expations that would be good too. please take this into consideration because many people feel that this should happen.

They did that with Stromm a couple years ago (might be off on the name, but you probably know the one of which I speak).

Because he would get his rear handed to him on a plate for flogging the oldest nag in town.

It is just cruel to send him over there..

You wan't a server that does not use standard expansions, requiring special oneoff maintanance patches, reducing development time for everyone else? Not only that but it would last less than a month before there were enough maxxed toons to dominate most of the decent post 45 content. The casual players your talking about would get fed up and leave with the completely unbalanced economy and constant overfarming of PoP era content by toons that are completely overpowered for what is years old encounters.

Look, the days of uber banded, bronze, and raiding crushbone are over. For good. EQ is an evolving game and it will never be the way it was. You can gaze on it through rose colored glasses, but you cannot go back, it was fun then because there was nothing better, you were working towards the endgame knowing that eventually it would be midgame as better stuff came along. Why is someone going to put 500 hours into a toon when they know that PoP will be the end of their progression?

This idea has been tried hundreds of times by people forming level, expansion, and gear restricted guilds. Every single one of them has failed for one simple reason; People wan't to advance. Sure raiding Naggy is fun, but every night? Decking yourself out in full bronze gear is a blast, but after a while getting slaughtered by LB cons for garbage loot gets old. Ya refusing to use the books brings back that sense of adventure the first 3 times you do it, then it's just tedious.

If you want to reexperience the old content again you're free to do so. It's all still there on every server, just like it was back then. Get a guild full of like minded people together just like hundreds before you and go for it.

But don't ask SOE to waste development and maintanance dollars on a special server that after the glitz rubs off will be a desolate wasteland prowled by a half dozen diehards yammering about how good the ole days were and how everyone doesn't know what they are missing

New servers are great except it takes forever to get them populated enough. How many people in this day and age want to start a new character with no Buffs available, No Gear, and no money. I havn't been in the tutorial so not sure how much exp or what you get out of there but just try to level a character without even a magic weapon to kill Willowisps. New servers are fun to play around on for a while but they lose intrest real quick.

IF the op is beating a dead horse doesnt that by definition mean that there are alot of people talking about this subject?

Unfortunately this problem is inevitable as servers age unless there is a constant stream of new players which EQ will probably never have again. Although not a new suggestion I think what the OP suggests is pretty much the only way to solve this problem. Also this solution doesnt effect anyone elses gameplay so it cant possibly hurt. I dont know about having limited expansions I am sure the people transferring will want all the content.

..... yes and strommm was a very successful server. So why not try it again? There is no downside that I can see. Yes there is a good chance you may have the same problem in 2 years but hey if eq fans can find a place to call home for 2 years isnt that a good thing?

IF the server failed we all know what a success /movelog was so again no real downside for the current eq communities.

I was thinking the exact same thing. About a month after Morden Rasp Server was up (well maybe 2 months) we started a bunch of toons there. There were already level 65s who in 2 days made 70 after OoW went live. This was before they allowed server transfers.

Your idyllic server notion would have a very short lifespan.
