Should newbie players buy all the expansions?Follow

#1 Sep 14 2005 at 12:45 PM Rating: Decent
I started playing about two months ago when I bought the Platinum box with the first seven expansions. From playing casually, it seems like there's already so much for me to do and explore that for newbies, like myself, there really isn't much benefit in getting the newer expansions yet. My highest level character is a 21 def nec so most of the places in the expansions would suicide for me anyway. Am I missing something in my thinking?

The advantage from expansions isn't really in the zones (there are some exceptions) but rather in the utility that comes with the expansions.

I can't do math too well but here is a mini-breakdown:

DoDH:
Level 70+ AA
New 60+ zones/instances
Spirit Shrouds (seems to be a novelty only so far)
Monster Missions (i haven't played one)
A couple high level spells.

I don't see a reason for a low level to buy DoDH yet but it's still new so we haven't seen everything for it yet.

DoN
Level 50+ zones/instances
Buyable Crystals/Augs/Gear
65+ Faction AAs
Guild Hall/Lobby (very useful for ANY level character)

OoW
45+ zones/instances
Level past 65
Level 66-70 spells/AA.

GoD
Leadership AA! (these are useful for Any level characters but takes some time to earn)
45+ zones (mostly raid content)
Raid level spells/Higher end groups

No.

The only expansion that offers much for lower lvl plaers is Dragons of Norrath. Even than it's not much. It has the bandolier, potion belt, and the guild lobby. All of these features are mostly convienences and not a necessity. Expansions are targeted more for the 45+ toons but mostly for 65-70 high end.

I would recomend waiting on purchasing the latest 3 Omens of War, Dragons of Norrath, and Depths of Darkhollow. You won't use them until at least 45 and even than you have plenty of other places to go and explore. If you wait you'll save money when the purchase price goes down. You'll end up not using them and waiting till you're higher anyways.

Btw GoD is included in the platinum edition so that one's not even an issue.

IMHO I would get EQ Platinum and DoN.

Get DoN only for the Guild Lobby/Hall feature. You'll use it the most.

I would get DoN for the guild lobby. Being able to summon your corpse no matter where you die is <3.
