Assuming the FFXXIVLMCX player really is what (s)he claims to be, I wonder: Why come here, unless (s)he is still hooked on EQ?
I would love to come play FFXI, but I cannot afford the brain drain included with purchase, so will have to pass. That and my exclamation/one key would get broken and I need it from time to time. But thank you for the kind invite.

What's sad is tomshardware had a recent article on why that game is successful. I couldn't bring myself to read it...
The game IS succesful. They have quite a large subscription base. Look at The Matrix online, or Anarachy Online...neither of those is successful as FFXI.

Why dopeople get so upset whenever there is some downtime after a major patch or expansion? It's simply to be expected. Besides, did any of you play EQ2? The server I played on was down for a couple hours EVERY morning at 5am! EVERY DAY! How sucky is that?
Yup, when I played EQ2 they rebooted the servers everyday at 7 or 8am EST (something like that).

I am always off on Wednesdays, so I am immune to downtime hatred. I just expect that 2 - 3 times in a 90 day period I am forced to deal with real life. Thanks SoE for making sure I cleaned the garage today, my wife appriciates it.

Luckily, in EQ1, they are usually only down when a major patch is released and only a couple days in a row.....Because for me, my prime hours for potion making and foraging supplies is 4am-9am....I spend my days in real life and my evenings XP/questing....The downtime after patches and expansions used to really bother me....But after dealing with it on a daily basis in EQ2, I don't mind the small inconvenience at all :)

Besides our servers are down because of a NEW expansion. It's expected really and how many times has ffxi gone down in the last 6 months?

It keeps a lot of the *** clowns out of EQ. It takes a lot of nerve to handle that many tards.
I'm going to play state the obvious. I've been playing for many moons now and everytime they make a new expansion the servers get patched with in 12 hours of live time. This leads me to believe that the programers are trying to get this stuff out a bit too fast. Now fortunately I am usually at work or sleeping during this period but I would be mad if it was happening during peak hours for sure. Oh yeah and what's with the graphic lag? My comp is way better than EQ to have that much lag :(

I was actually partially serious when I asked if people were still playing FFXI... I just don't hear aything about it. I mean, I'd imagine someone was playing it somewhere, but it's definitely dropped out of the spotlight. I don't go out of my way to find information about games other than EQ1; a very good indication of the success of WoW is the fact that despite my EQ1 tunnel vision I still hear about it all the time. I hear about EQII as well, but only rehash of how much it truly sucks. When I bought my copy of DoD Tuesday, the guy at the game stop counter even mentioned that EQ1 was outselling EQ2 in that store.
Guild Wars is already fading fast from my radar... every once in a while a news article or a post reminds me that CoH or SWG are still around. Hardly anything from Final Fantasy though, which, given its reputation, does not upset me. I figured that game was officially pronounced dead when the new PS2 was released with absolute zero support for the hard drive. Have they released any expansions for it?
Anyway, as to the original topic... I feel for ya. I'm sleeping or at work during most patch times, since I have an East coast 8-5 type job, so those really only affect my /afk baz trading. That wasn't always the case, though... I've sat through many a patch thinking of all the things I could be doing in game instead. Although it does still drive me nuts that, after spending an hour driving around to get a new expansion, I have to spend another hour installing and patching before I can play it...

You do realize that in order to play FFXI on the PS2 you need to have the hard drive. Name other games that utilize this feature...that what the poster is trying to say.
