The best way to get started is to go out and purchase EQ Platinum. It should cost you about $19US and contains original EQ and the first 7 (SEVEN!) expansions.

what has changed since evolution?

well, there's also OoW, DoN, and now (as of today) DoD in addition to platinum.

OoW = Omens of War
DoN = Dragons of Norrath
DoD = Depths of Darkhollow

edit: clarified what expansion abbreviations stand for, figured its easier that way.

DoD is not out yet, correct?

i was reading about it today, and the playing as a monster thing sounds really cool. i just wonder with these other expansions if i am missing out on anything else cool like that or any major fixes or additions i should have

Depths of Darkhollow went live a few hours ago. If you have a credit card, I suggest going to the Station Store
  • https://store.station.sony.com/
  • and buying the expansions that appeal to you one at a time at your own pace. Its a digital download so you just need a few clicks, log in to EQ, and patch the files. It's like the Jetsons.

    10 Expansions to date:

    Everquest:

    Ruins of Kunark
    Scars of Velious
    Shadows of Luclin
    Planes of Power
    Legacy of Ykesha
    Lost Dungeons of Norrath
    Gates of Discord

    Omens of War
    Dragons of Norrath
    Depths of Darkhollow

    The platinum package contains all the expansions up to GoD. It cost about $20-30 and comes with a 30 day subscription. Omens doesn't offer anything really for under lvl 45ish. Dragons has some nice features for any lvl especially the guild hall. Darkhollow just went live today and I'm not sure what all it includes right now.

    great thanks for this... might have to hunt down platinum... it will definitely save on buying 10+ dollar expansions

    Tell me about it since most of us have spent $30 an expansion so EQ Platinum is a super fantabulous deal. Oh, and they have the new free stand alone tutorial, Escape to Norrath that you can download and try the game before you even buy it from escapetonorrath.com that went live yesterday as well.

    Prelate
    Rise of the Forsaken

    well, i picked up platinum today and went and installed it during my lunch break.

    i will probably skip omens of war for now unless anyone thinks there is something vital for me in there

    dragons of norrath sounded cool on the package so i will probably get that online for guild halls and the other additions i can use at a low level

    as for the new expansion, anyone think it is a good idea to wait a few days to get it just in case there are some bugs that need to be worked out? how is that working so far?

    also, is the new player tutorial accessible to me with what i have so far? having help up to 10 then 20 sounds super helpful to me as the first stretch after orienting yourself to a new character is always what seems to kill me on mmorpg's.
