Too much contentFollow

It is obvious that these constant expansions are geared towards the uber guilds. I full understand why they are bored with their stuff. They spend their life, such as it is, racing at full tilt towards the 'end' of the game.

This game is not based on finding the finish line, Sony will always more it farther way at some point; the game is about having fun with any part of fit.

There seems to be little or no thought into fixing what is wrong with the game. The solution Sony seems to be pushing is send out new stuff and hope they forget the old, or at least don't use it anymore.

I rarely get a opportunity to use the immense content that already exists. I don't even own Dragons, but I do have all other expansions.

I am not currently in a guild, so there is no pressure to buy this.

I don't even have my 1.0 epic yet, but I am working on it. I am addicted to all trade skills. I love Adventures (have a bit*h of a time finding one) but 1/3 of them end up dissolving before they start from peeps that have no patience. I love really long quests (got my 6th Prayer Shawl and my 7th Coldain Ring).

Once I explore/achieve those aspects of this game, then I'll start looking for a guild for Planar Progession. Only then will l think about buying more bugs, er I mean content.

The beauty of this game is that you can play it however you would like. You can choose to be in an uber raiding guild, or you don't even have to be guilded.

Are you going to see or not see different content? Sure. It wouldn't be fair to the folks that raid 30 - 40 hours per week if those of us that are lucky to get 30 - 40 hours per month to play were able to get the same gear, and do the same things.

I don't feel at all bitter that some folks get to do more and see more than I do. Were I to start playing every waking minute, then I'm sure I to could see the endgame..but I doubt it will ever happen.

I agree with the concerns about the top-end-heaviness of the game. It's always push to the end, farm the crap out of it, then ***** about content till the next expansion. I don't like to take part in that kind of play; even went so far as to give up my raiding guild (which now casually farms Time when they're not doing newer content) and join the more casual play of AS.

In 5 years of playing, my top characters are a 62 Cleric (Epic 1.0), 59 Necro and 53 Ranger. Was well on the way to becoming a primary raid cleric when I realized how much healing and raiding sucked, and switched to the necro. The further I get into the game, the more I keep going back to the mid-level content.

I dunno if the levels in your sig are old, if they aren't I'd suggest you rethink DoN.

Running a trio pal/shaman/bard levels 61/62/62 with my wife we do the easiest DoN mission and net 70ish radiant crystals total for each run (Crystals are tradeable unlike LDoN points). It's a kill 15 each dervish, spider and drake in the instanced lavaspinners lair. It's hard, don't get me wrong, but very worth it.

First thing we got after 2 missions was https://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/spell.html?spell=6735 which made things a heck of alot easier. Proc goes off 10+ times usually and all the agro goes to pally leaving shaman free to slow/heal.

Next 2 we got https://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/spell.html?spell=6734 Now the screen is a lightshow of procs going off every fight.

Next 2 I got https://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/spell.html?spell=6731 which made our future named mob hunting that much easier.

Since then we've done a dozen more or so, mainly outfitted the paladin so he can tank better. http://www.magelo.com/eq_view_profile.html?num=1247400 The legs cost 160 I think, theres two augs in there for mana regen (+1 and +2) that cost 90 and 120 if memory serves, plus a +15 to all stats one that I think ran me 75. DoN augs are the coveted type 7 and not type 3 like all those annoying LDoN augs, so don't have to save up a gazillion LDoN points to buy LDoN armor to put them in. When I outgrow the legs, I can sell them back (At a loss, I think 75% of what you paid) and get the next set up.

We have yet to "raid" with these characters, best we've taken them is BoT (except the pally) and some other minor stuff. It really is a nice expansion that you can do with small groups of friends and not need a "raid", and if/when you do the rewards are VERY nice... the tier one progression which only requires a full group instead of a raid rewards 3 AA's and +10 to all stats and stat caps. If you can actually manage the third tier you get 5 more buffs slots.

IMO it's much more worth it to do DoN progression over PoP, the rewards for doing them are very nice and the stuff you can buy with the crystals isn't bad at all, or just buy the augs and make the stuff you do get from PoP that much better.

What older content is broken? Quite a bit of old content has been made obsolete from a statistical viewpoint but aside from some annoying game mechanics, not much is broken. Again I emphasize, less than user friendly mechanics and akward implementation of features are not bugs.

I agree with you pretty much. Not only is the higher end content geared for higher levels, but it is geared towards the higher levels with elemental, gates, time, tier2 OOW, gear and 100's of AA's. With each expansion mobs are getting higher and higher aggression ranges, hitting harder and harder, and doing more and more insane procs. I can go to velious and kill dark blue mobs easier then I can kill a very green mob in draniks scar because of the 400dd procs the mobs do. And with SOE's oh so wonderful random system its not uncommon to get hit by a lvl 40ish mob 4 times in a row sometimes with that 400dd proc.

They do not seem to care about the people who didn't start playing 3 and 4 years ago. Yes I know some players can make a alt and be level 70 in a insanely short time. That is quite possible when your in a high end guild and your friends with half the server. But for the truely newer players it can be a whole other story.

So you all think that players who have put in tens of thousands of hours of playtime should not be rewarded with bigger and better content and better gear??

I don't agree the the latest expansions have nothing to offer for casual players...they may not be able to do raiding progression, but there are still things that they can benefit from them.

1) The old cry of "fix the broken stuff first" is now a bit outdated. There are certainly perma-broken quests, but a much of the game has been revamped and enhanced so these are hardly a niggle. Graphic glitches, load times and so on have been dealt with. Lag remains an issue at times, but it is very situational and often seems to be to do with issues beyond Sony's control like virus checkers and spyware.

2) Huge support has been added to the game for lower end players: tutorial (if you choose) to level 10, including nice armor and starting plat (around 30p easily). Generic beginners armor quests much better than the old "class and race" newb quests.

3) Bazaar is open to all

4) Guild lobby, if you have plat, ensures you can manage all the old issues of impossible corpse runs and so on (as well as "return home" button and other additions).

5) "Find" feature and free maps (in game for newb areas and on-oline for rest) makes navigation often a real breeze.

6) High end players with commitment, knowledge and sometimes multiple accounts certainly deserve support.

7) Sony have been doing better each expansion. GoD was... not a happy design. Difficult, difficult difficult. OoW was interesting. Yes, it supported high end, but also from about lvl 56 on (in DS), introduced tradeable augs, great new armor and so on. DoN is awesome... with missions and zones for mid levels up, and great new gear. The idea of task progression alongside ordinary zones alongside instanced group and raid zones was excellent.

8)Darkhollow SPECIFICALLY introduces "spirit shrouds" where you can play as a monster at a level that matches your lower lvl friends. So in fact it ENCOURAGES high end players to replay mid zones, and to group with lower players.

... this feature may be the best thing to happen to eq. The OP didnt mention one thing that plagues people like him/her, tht is that this is a group based game. At his level and going to the areas he wants to go there simply may be no groups available. Hopefully the spirit shroud will take off. I suspect that it will only be used to hang with alts and alts of guildies not meet new people of lower levels which will not adress the real problem at all.

I guess that I probably fall into the middle group of palyers. I have been playing for about 5 years, have never been in a guild, my highest level is 66 (Druid and a Ranger that I 2 box with). I have several other alts at various levels, and have one of allmost every class (have 3 accounts).

I have every expansion, haven't recieved the latest in the mail yet, tho. I have found something of value in every one of them. No, I don't play at the high levels, and,no, I haven't done any of the planar progressions. However, I get on the game allmost every night for a couple of hours and continue to throughly enjoy myself.

Of course, I'm way past my teens, and even 20's - as some of you are fully aware. My point is, the game was meant to be FUN, not a JOB. You can make it into a job if you desire, and that's OK, just don't criticize SONY for making a game that appeals to a VERY broad segment of the gaming community, instead of the narrow segment that feel that they have to WIN evry game so that they can move on to the next game.

Enough of my rambeling - I'll quit and go back to lurking again - which is what I probably do best.
