Where did eqrangers.com go?Follow

#1 Sep 12 2005 at 12:44 AM Rating: Decent
I was out looking for specific info on my epic quest at one of my favorite ranger sites earlier today and I got a blank page/host site! And when I tried to use my bookmark it came up "page requested not found"... Has eqrangers.com gone defunct? I know they went through some changes a while ago in who the administrator would be, but I was on their site just last week for quest information and now today it's gone! There was nothing about it going away or changes being made--at least that I saw at that time. If anyone has any knowledge about where it might have gone, or if it is coming back I would love to hear from you--this makes me very sad that it's not there any more! Other than this MB and the main sony one, that was one of my primary sources of current information about how to be a ranger, and I really liked the people who populated it--like here they were friendly and helpful to us relatively new players!

Thanks for your help!

I hope it's just that their host had issues and is light on weekend support. It's really nice to have a class site with a focus on the lower to mid level/casual players.

Their hosting funding ran out. there's a thread about it over at the evil sellout ranger glade forum. Damn you sunmoon for selling out to Yantis!

Google eqrangers, and you get this:

EQ Rangers
EqRangers.Com has hacked into yet again this morning with the same results..
I'm really hoping this new board system will help.. if not.. well, ...

My guess is EQRangers has, yet again, been the target of a malicious hacker attack. That would make it three times in six months... /em shakes his fist at stupid hackers

Edit: Seems there were bigger issues. Sokko, the latest site admin, won't exactly explain what happened, I can only speculate it's because some people might take offence or get hurt - no reason for that I guess, even though I'm VERY curious myself. Whatever the reson, it seems it's a fairly definitive turn of events :(

/em mourns the loss of the only flame-free EQ site

Er, the term "selling out" is so 90's. As my friend, the same guy who told me; "Hey man, I am not a wordist, so don't quote me." said, "I won't do nothin if there isn't any scratch involved."

It takes money to run these sites. This one included. Being faux politically correct about where that money comes from puts you in the position of eqrangers. RIP.

Does my failure to understand what Reyla is saying mark me as "so 90s" too?

I'm guessing that the remark has to do with Reyla erroneously believing that lack of funding closed down EQRangers, which I can testify was definitely not the case.

History lesson for those who may be too young to know: Yantis made a kiling selling EQ plat for RL money, apparently ******** up the economy on nearly every server in the process. He was not the first, and probably not the worst, of his kind, but he DID run banner ads, and EQ sites that ran those ads, i.e. accepted Yantis' business, were (rightfully so, IMO) labelled 'sellouts' by the 'purist' EQ community. With the Station Exchange, we've all come to realise of course that this kind of business is here to stay - but that does NOT mean we have to, or should, endorse that traffic by visiting sites that run these ads.

Of course it takes money to run a site. It DOES however make a difference where that money comes from. Does that make me politically correct, faux or otherwise?

And Reyla being sarcastic about this, while not bothering to check the facts of the matter is... so 00's, I guess.
