Depths of Darkhollow: "Intelligent" itemsFollow

To all you Depths of Darkhollow beta testers out there, we'd be very interested to learn how the new "intelligent" or "evolving" items work. We've seen the various "1/3," "2/3," "3/3" screenshots of the evolution from The Shattered Blade (1/3) up to Korgoron, the Shattered Blade of Illsalin (3/3), but would like more information about how this progression actually works.

  • How does the item evolve from one level to the next?
  • Can you track how far along you are within a particular level? The "0%" next to "1/3" seems to indicate that you can.
  • Is there a range of stats for a particular item? I.e., within a given level, do they function like charms?
  • What happens to augmentations you had on the item when it evolves?
  • Can an item evolve down multiple paths, or is it a straight series from 1 to n?
  • Do the sets/series of items have names associated with them?

  • Thanks in advance!

If you have the shattered blade enabled to gain experience it will grow as you kill mobs... a solo light blue kill gave my shattered blade 6%. So it levels as you kill monsters.

It has a single path it can follow and as it levels the stats increase.. but not like a charm.. its a set increase in bonus's.

I am not sure if the link on the item that listed "The Final Result" will go in live servers, but it gave you a link to the The final result from leveling up. The path is like leveling a toon and it gains stats that are set over the levels. The two items I leveled up had different amounts of levels and prob depended upon the quality of the loot. I was wholely disappointed in the entire set up. Its nothing more than a time sink as I didnt see any special effects or special benifits of having these items. There was no unique abilities, effcects, procs, clickies, or new focuses. Also they had no aug slots at all, none, zero, and I do not believe they will have any becasue of the leveling up portion of them and problems that may result. I saw nothing that made these items interesting and they can keep the emotes because we all want less spam during raids and not more.. Can I get a /shutupintelligent item command please. The novelty will wear off these quickly imo.

Unless sony puts unique effects, clickies, focus on these I dont see the point really. Or maybe if the items cast spells upon you and or your group like the steadfast servant or the jester that would be cool but without something to make them unique and worthwhile most will not want to give up aug slots to have these items imo, especially the high end raid people. I havent seen more than what was openly avaialible on beta but I was less than impressed with what I saw.

Just to clarify , the evolving items you could test on beta (from the old man) was bosted to recive double the xp as it should. Simply to test the feature.
    #8 Sep 08 2005 at 11:07 PM Rating: Decent
also a note xp potions and vet aa exp bonus doesnt increase the items xp. Not that it should but just a fyi.

Each level of the item has a different name.

The levels and the stats for those levels are predetermined.

The items gain xp separately from character xp. But if you level multiple items at once the xp is split between those items you are leveling. So you can level one faster than leveling two at a time.

You can track and watcht the xp % in each level and the items there is a ding or in this case, Dint?, hehe when the item levels. Any other questions?

Both the Blade and the Ring that you can get from the Old Man in Beta. Both of them gain XP as you kill mobs and yes you can see how far along they are. Not only by thier level (1/3, 2/3 etc), but you can also see what % they are into their current level. Yes the name changes as the items gain more power.

How does the item evolve from one level to the next?

    - The item must be equiped at the time of the XP msg to recieve XP. There is an XP percentage and a level marker on the item itself. When the item "dings" you get an emote and the item instantly changes/upgrades into its new form.

Can you track how far along you are within a particular level? The "0%" next to "1/3" seems to indicate that you can.

    - Yes, there are 2 indicators. A brand new item will show 0% 1/3 (or how ever many levels the item has). As you gain XP the 0% percent will increase until it reaches 100%, then it "dings", and you start again at 0% 2/3.

Is there a range of stats for a particular item? I.e., within a given level, do they function like charms?

    - The items have fixed stats for the level of the item, ie: fixed stats for level 1, 2, and 3 of the item are the same for all classes.

What happens to augmentations you had on the item when it evolves?

    - No idea, never tested augs.

Can an item evolve down multiple paths, or is it a straight series from 1 to n?

    - Straight path 1-3 or 1-5, depending on the items. I don't believe all evolving items are limited to 3 levels, some are 5 and possibly even more.

Do the sets/series of items have names associated with them?

    - Generally the item changes names, it starts as a dormant "evolving" item. When it first levels the item "awakens" and begins to speak but is still limited and not fully awoken. At the items final stage it is fully awake and functional with max stats.

Hope that helps, also, those saying how the XP was so fast with them don't be mislead. In beta we were told that evolving items would gain XP much faster than they would on live for testing reasons. Until they reach live I doubt anyone can guess just how fast these will level. The only thing in terms of getting XP I know for sure is that it must be equiped to get XP (cannot be in a bag, etc).

I lurk here and rarely post, but i have a question. Are these intelligent items/weapons only for those who are level 70? I will be very unhappy if this is the case.

Evolving Items, gain exp as you kill monsters. They gain it pretty fast, for me it was very decent amount of exp per darkblue kill. Though I'm not sure it drains any exp from the player.

I agree. Can someone please post truth or denial to this? I **REALLY** hope that is NOT the case...

If you do an /outputfile inventory does the file indicate how much xp the item has (either by level or by %)? If it gets a new name, does it change item number?

D&D was ripped from JRR Tolkein's Middle Eearth so what's your point?

From the looks of the pic - of the intelligent swords...it is indeed ONLY for level 70. My guess here is that (by looking at other item as well) "level 70" crowd is the only ones that are of concern to the developers. Is much like being the ugly step-child here...

It's just like daoc's artifact system, only they have something to say

Don't want to start a "flame" or a conflict here, as I to wish that some of these would be available to lower levels, but I have heard level 70 characters making the same complaint about the "preorder awards" being no good to them also...

Just picked up an intelligent item in Corathus Creep, (believe it or not). Had a required level of 55. You can even check what the final result would be for the item, (in my case, a shield). Oddly enough, the item gets a new name as it evolves, as well, (plus some attack and regen bonuses. :) )
