How about a Server with just the original EQ with the starting loot tables, zones, and ruleset max level would be 50.

How many do you think would use it????

bah.. why strive backward?

This is just like RL, old people looking back and saying "Ohh, when I was young things where so much better" when in fact it wasnt.
Instead of fooling yourself it was better "back before luclin/PoP" try to realize the beuty of today.

Starting a server like that would maby make XX people interested but after a few weeks the server would be very empty.

Why in the world would SOE do this. There profit is derived from getting us to buy expansions. The monthly Fees just keep the thing running. Yes it would be cool to have more choices as to how play works. We need to think about SOE's point of view and weather or not it is good Bussiness. If the Idea is good for players and good for Sony, then there is a chance it might happen.
just my 2cp

While I do agree with most here, that going backwards isn't really the best idea. I can understand where many people would like the idea of having "Your EQ" back.

When I started EQ, it was just after Luclin.
And admittedly I have gotten a bit lost in the seemingly endless expansions.

While I understand SOE's need to keep the hardcore crowd happy by adding new challenges, they have in many ways, made a whole new game.

If you look at it from say Kunark, to even PoP, never mind OoW / GoD etc.
For many people somewhere between all these expansions the game became something very different.

But stagnation is the antithesis to growth.
The game must grow.

We all know the game has lost a lot of players.
And SOE has a real challenge on there hands to keep older players interested, and to get newer players in.

What I don't understand is why there aren't more commercials on television for EQ?
Would'nt one think that as a media resource to attract new players, this would kind of be a given?

Can someone explain to me why SOE doesn’t advertise on TV?
Sorry, I know its off topic.

It is intersesting to see people ask for a "Classic Kunark and Velious server." Kunark and Velious are expansions that made massive, enormous changes to the original Everquest.

This change was huge from Everquest to Kunark and even bigger from Kunark to Velious. There is nothing old school about Kunark and Velious. Old school is pre expansions. A classic server would have to be pre Kunark. Otherwise, different people would want different versions of what they consider classic. A server that had only Kunark, one that had Kunark and Velious. One up to Luclin, etc.

I can explain. The cost of television advertising is very expensive. While SOE makes alot of money, they also have alot of overhead. What I mean is their profit percentage is lower than, say, Blizzard when they advertised Diablo 2 on TV heavily. At that time, Blizzard was small and they made huge profits from their games (Pre Wow discussion folks)

As an example:
SOE makes $100 but it costs them $90 to make their game.
Blizzardmakes $10 but it only costs them $1 to make games. They make more profit, not more money, and they can afford to advertise on TV. MMORPGs and PC games in general are successful and profitable but not huge cash cows like console games.(Ok, WoW seems to be the exception. And The Sims etc.)
