Unconventional GroupsFollow

One aspect of Everquest that I have been thinking about recently is very unconventional groups. These misfit groups are extremely fun and offer a new strategy to fighting. The holy trinity groups are reliable, but don't seem to stimulate much thought to me. Also, they don't seem to move at as quick of a pace as I prefer.

My favorite groups are the ultra-high DPS groups, especially that focus on one or two classes. Although, I really like to have a well played bard in almost any unconventional group.

Some of my favorites are groups such as:

4-5 Necros and a Bard

Pet heavy groups

Wizzie or Mage heavy groups

Kiting groups

IMHO the people you find who are willing to hunt in groups like these are better players and understand classes and their abilities more than others.

Any opinions or thoughts on this post are heartily welcomed. I do so love good discussion.

Take care.

We usually have a pretty steady guild group consisting of:

66 Druid
66 Shaman
58 Necromancer
58 Mage

We have a blast kiting the h3ll outta mobs. =)

Admitidly though there are several zones that are out of our reach like WoS, BoT..etc.

That sounds like it would be a fun group Dbernor. Any idea how far these kinds of groups can progress before needing a real healer and tank?

The fastest LDON I was ever in consisted of 4 Pallies a Shammy and a Cleric It was in Mistmore. I have never seen anything more devastating than 3 Pallies procing Nife at the sametime. Mob went from 90 to 0 in 2 seconds :)

One day for DoN missions my group was:

Cleric (me)
Ranger
Enchanter
Rogue
Rogue
Rogue

Nothing stayed alive long enough to do serious damage to the ranger. The Enchanter was a chain pulling fiend.

My friend and I used to two box the following:
Me - Cleric and Necro , Her - Enchanter and Mage.
We had loads of fun.

My first guild was very tiny. Only 7 active members....none of which were tanks. We managed to do quite a lot with what we had :)

I can remember some 3-4 cleric groups I played in with my old guild. Clerics can tank a limited amount, especially when there's plenty of healing power. And with the higher-level summoned Hammers, the damage is decent as well.
proc

proc proc proc
proc
proc proc

at 100+dmg per proc, and an uber proc rate, along with our semi-crappy nukes. We fared pretty well!

I was in a group with no tanks except necro pets. I swear the necs took turns running the mobs around the group, with pets trailing and beating the mob, and the rest of us dotting them, none of them lasted long. The necs only needed the occasional heal and sow. It was awe inspiring. Truthfully the rest of us could have probably just sat down and watched.

That's just wrong. Why heal the necro? Leach/lifetap should just be used as extra DPS.

I commonly run kiting groups in PoN, even if the others just sit in the GY to chat.

I had a great time in a group with a necro aggro kiting in PoN and 4 rogues total. Never got a chance to do that again, would love to try something like that in NC at my rogues current level there is a nice area to run around in near zone in.

We rogues all turned our our other's hits to on and the spam was magnificant not to mention the competion for best backstabs lol.

ihatepants,

We havent actually had a need for a cleric or tank. Actually for our hunting trips melees and clerics are more of a hinderance.
(Yeah, that's gonna get some flames)

But we keep mobs rooted and snared mostly, and if they are immune....Agro kite. As far as healing goes, both Druids have pretty quick 2K+ heals and a 10 sec 4800+ heal. not to ment6ion the Shammies healing as well. Even the Necro helps out with his lower yield heals.

We have headed deep into GoD zones, most planes (old and New)....so when we reach our limit I'll let ya know! Smiley: king

You have no idea about how much fun this is. Any combination of air and water pets is just disgusting. My favorite was one air pet (for tanking) and five water pets set up in backstab position. We were in PoValor, inner camp and keeping both inner and out cleared (luckily we were the only people in the zone). Even the poor named didn't last a minute.....and this was before GoD, OoW and DoN.

Or all six air pets. I've seen the difference in stuns from one air pet to two air pets. Imagining six air pets, should nearly remove the need for heals.

From what I have heard, the high-end game is more dependant on a tank and cleric. Dbernor, I'm so glad to hear about your group holding its own in some of the more difficult areas. That gives me some hope :)

Thanks for the great replies everyone. I'm looking forward to a long weekend of oddball groups. I hope you do the same!

I've done a whole DoN mission with the following setup.

Ranger
Chanter
Warrior
Bard
Rogue

The cleric had pc problems so we had the ranger heal. Was one of the funniest DoN missions I've ever done. We never stopped to med, just kept the mobs coming. We were always barely surviving but was fun as hell.

Fennin was taken down with 15 SK's, 3 wizards, 2 druids and 1 cleric a few weeks ago. Thats an unconventional raid imo :P

Im a wizard and I love unconventional groups.
Ive done lots of creators where I have been puller and lots where I have been CC and a few where I have been both. Kiting 2 mobs while the rest of the group takes out another mob. Not really extremly unconventionall but beats just /assist MT /nuke.

Also doing a few nest missions with kitegroups. Thoose are really fun and its kinda hard kiting inside thoose tunnels.

I also tanked in BoT with my wizard :)
