I have a real dumb question. How on earth do I get into The Hole. I got as far as Paineel but couldn't find my way into the city and subsequently discovered that falling down the pit isn't an option after going splat when levitate failed.

thanks guys

There are a few ways.

You have to go into Paineel zone. One way is to jump off the cliff, but unless you have Cleric/Bard DB (invulnerability) or some such the fall will kill you.

The other way is by the Paineel entrance to the Warrens. Keep going down the stairs until you see a little pool. Entrance to the Hole is behind a rock underwater. If you are small enough (shrunk/gnome-size) you can squeeze through the small opening. Otherwise get someone who is not KoS in Paineel to go buy a key (looks like a bag calle Hole Key) and use that to 'open' the rock door. Keys cost 104pp iirc.

Oh you need to have someone with a key to Paineel let you in there. If you are amiable to the Skelly guards by the Paineel newbie area, just ask for one.

I did get a Hole key for my con-dubious Iksar by having someone let me in and out of Paineel and sneak-buying the key.

Edit: I should mention Hole Key is NO TRADE.

a Rogue can open the door for you if his Pick Lock skill is high enough

Actually, there is a way to wiggle in without being shrunk. I don't think I can write it out perfectly - but best I remember is you go under the water and go to the right side of the entrance. If you look sort of up you will see a small opening in the rocks. You can get through there if you hit it just right. I don't know about large races tho - my half elf ranger and and halfling druid have no promblem getting in there.

Somewhere on the forum there is a post that goes into great detail about how to do that - but even if I had time to find it, I don't really know how to link it.

Forgot to mention that it's a good idea to have an enduring breath item. You can get stuck and have to do a rewind trying this.

Spent the better part of an hour trying to get into the hole that way, as a wood elf. now, as a druid, I cast wolf form on myself and slipped right in. For some reason, wolves are smaller than wood elves. Remember this is an underwater entrance, and you must zone underwater also. read, need enduring breath. Never had any problem getting OUT of there this way, though.

Fall down the hole... Zone... /quit right before hitting the floor... Log back safe and sound, maybe. :P

I've taken several different characters via the underwater route and never had a bit of problem. It's strange to me that so many people have any issue getting in with this method because 2 weeks ago a baby raid (12 of us) all went thru without even breaking stride.

Go figure *shrugs*

Ok First method is to get a key from Paineel and unless its your home town it will take a good day or 2 of killing every Kobol you see in the Warrens.

Second method is to shrink at the tops of the rock swinging door you will see a couple cracks, wiggle your way through the bigger one by moveing forward ducking and trying to move forward each time. I have seen a Barb do it once without shrink so it can be done. Recommend having enduring breath tile you get proficent at it. Side note as hard as it is to get in without a key its harder to get out I would have a means of gate.

Third Not rccommended but it can be done get a levi and jump off into the pit turn around and face the cliff walls and move to them before you zone. After zoning you will have to turn 90 degrees to the right (I Think) as you are falling useing arrow keys to move against the rock wall clicking on it you will basicall bounce off the rock taking damage but it prevents the 20k damage from the fall. I only use this method during a Raid and a cleric has jumped with Devine Arura and is rezzing people at the bottom I have about a 70% success rate with my Warrior
