I sense a Migraine coming on or about Sept. 13th.

I three box, have for quite a while.
Looking forward to Spirit Shroud and or Play as a Monster?
NO. Not by a long shot.

Not even remotely interested in that.
Am I going to buy the new expansion?
Yea, I guess so.

What else comes with this new expansion to not make it a waste of Money?

Anybody?

Ferris?

Ferris?

Ferris Bhueler?

One question, Clockwork Mount? Has anyone heard the background on that?

Who is it that "forces" everyone down this path? Why must everyone bemoan how boring new characters are and then point out they hunt in the same old spots all the time? Are there not at least 50 zones across the expansions that are appropriate for leveling from 1 to 30 or so?

I think it is just another example that tinker gnomes run SOE. after all, they have a popular product that has problems. so how do tinker gnomes fix it? by putting chrome and glitter, bells and whistles on it. Perish the thought that they should make it work right.
I see Play-As-A-Monter is a gimmick, designed to keep those players who love flash-in-the-pan crap to get their fix. How many people will be saying, a year from now, lets go do Tenebrous mountains so I can play a sonic wolf? The FITP people will have moved on to The-Next-Big-Thing, while the rest of us will probably either ignore this, or just tolerate its use.
It does remain to be seen, as to how SOE does implement this and the high-low grouping thing.

OMG. Whats with all the Whining. If you dont like it...... then don't buy it. I mean yea the last few expan. have mostly been for high lvls, and guess why, because thats where the majoryity of the playerbase is. If they released a expansion soley for the lower lvls, people would be outraged. and to the people complaining about the bugs, go make a list of every bug and scripting error and post it. Its not as simple as oh click here and eveythings fine, you litterly have to read threw hundreds of lines of code to find the error.yea we pay $15 a month, look at the size of EQ, there are litteraly HUNDRENDS of zones, do you know what it takes to keep all that content working? Have any of you ever ran teh most successfull MMOG in western society ( Liniage take easter side IIRC)

Next time you decide to whine, think about THERE side of it.

Not to nitpick, but EQ2 was far from the first game to use a mentoring system.

City of Heroes had a Sidekick system (lowbie gets bumped up to Mentor - 1 level) in place from day 1, and later added the.... forget what it's called now, but high-level gets bumped down to lowbie's level.

I'm sure there's other games that had it before CoH, too.

If you meant EQ2 had it first by "innovative," anyway.

But yes, if this is Mentoring, it could be decent. Depends if it's the typical EQ gimick-fest, or if it'll actually be worthwhile.

WOW be a monster eh? I can't wait till they incorporate the "be an NPC vendor" ability in the next lame, newbie driven, corporately spawned, mediocre expansion.
Or hey! How many times have you walked by some uber twinks corpse and said: "I wish I could be that guy's corpse." Being a corpse would be an equally grand ability.
Or be a guard! Or be a placeholder! Or be a ...JUST MAKE AN ENJOYABLE GAME DAMMIT.

the next lame, newbie driven,

i would never argue that soe should not fix current problems or come up for new stuff for the high level player since they are the biggest part of the current player base but shouldnt they also try to come up with newbie stuff to bring new players in?

yeah no grammer or punctuation so sue me

There is a huge discrepancy in the definition of "new players". To me a new player is a 6 year old fantasy gaming-ophile who has finally aged to be a pre-teen fantasy gaming-ophile, who will then grow into an adult fantasy gaming-ophile. New players are recruited by like-minded friends and family, and that has been what keeps the game clean and fun.
Unfortunately, EQ has focused on a demographic of people who would never have had any interest in the game if it wasn't nerfed, watered down, or turned into a sophmoric shell of what it originally was. By appealing to the lowest common denominator (basically lazy, power hungry gamers) they have bred a weakness into the game that has alienated serious veteran gamers.
The newbie stuff is needed, of course, but the past few years have been nothing but handing the first 30 levels to a player character. How many of you seem to start new characters every 25-35 levels?? BE HONEST! It's because the lower levels are a friggin breeze that you can do with your eyes shut. When the class gets tough you sell your equipment and buy new gear for your low level twink. Level to 30, lather, rinse, repeat.
This game is in trouble. It's not leaving anytime soon by any means, but server consolidation, inviting ANY Tom, Richard, and Harry with $15/month to play, and a severe relaxation of the rules and structure of the game has created huge inequities in game play and content. If it wasn't true then the Charm of Solitude wouldn't be as sought after as it is on some servers...lol

So what are you saying with this line?

People should buy the game, install it and upon registration have to complete a competency survey before actually being allowed to sign in?

hmm...as I sat here and re-read the above line I find myself liking it more and more...

The way I see it, the Monster thing could be a pretty cool lore and "role playing" type tool. Imagine playing a Froglok in Guk when the first frogloks hit the curse that infects Lower Guk who has to find his way to the surface to warn the others. Or a goblin in Solusek when the gnomes started exploring and mining who's tasked with spying or sabotage. The initial reactions of the kobold nobles in Solusek when one day a dragon moved in and declared himself lord. A bunch of possibilities to revisit events in Norrath's history through the eyes of the creatures they affected instead of as a PC hewing through goblins looking for loot.

Unfortunately, I doubt that'll really be the case. I guess I'm embittered by the Omens "tasks" that were some of the most asinine fill-in-the-blank plots imaginable:
"There's trouble afoot with kidnappings in S. Karana! Explore the gnoll spire. Oh, no! You've been ambushed by beetles who want to stop your mission! That was close.. we know who's behind it now so kill ten elephant calves to stop them..." Smiley: dubious

Somehow I'm not expecting the monster missions to be much better.

I don't often post on the site, as the sidebar shows, but I think I'll start trying to get into more of these discussions.

If the Play-As-A-Monster Feature works anything like the Mentoring system from EQ2, then the "monster-player's" equipment will probably be made recommended level for the level of their toon and the stats of the "monster's" gear will be reduced relative to the original character's. ie: like a level 30 paladin weilding a blade of disruption; reduced stats and all that. Hopefully Sony will either do this, or give the monster you're playing set stats regardless of your player's gear. It's most likely the later, because how will it account for clickable items (Maelin's Methodical Mind anyone?) and potions? As someone posted above concerning massive PLing of their main through spirit shrouds, it will be much harder if you're not a twink. We'll have to wait and see how the exp is handled. Damn waiting.

Oh, and to answer the poll, it sounds cool, but should take a backseat to more important things. Like INTELLIGENT WEAPONS! Has anyone played Tales of Phantasia / Destiny? Yea, you know what I'm talk'n about. I am psyched.
