CC QuestionFollow

My Necro is getting the CC role many times and I have a question for all of the CC'ers out there.

Is there an easy way to target different mobs who are all stuck togather or lost in spell effects? Other than mouse clicks that is.

I played a cleric about 4 years ago and seem to remember scrolling through mobs by hitting some keybord combination. Maybe I was dreaming it..

So how do you Chanters do it?

Im not sure if necro's get ae mezz, but if they do, thats the way to go (just look out for traps if in an ldon). Im a chanter and whenever there is a mass aggro and I cant seem to target single mobs, do to other players or spell effects, I just target the MT and cast ae mezz, then single mezz the mobs again, being as ae mezz tends to break pretty fast, at lvl 55 at least.

When I can't click, I do it by hitting the F8 button. It will hop from mob to mob. Just don't hit F9 (like I sometimes do) which can be very inconvenient in the middle of a battle.

If different members of the group are fighting diffeent mobs, you can also click their name in your group window and use a hotkey for /assist to switch to whatever mob that group member is fighting.

This is a very helpful tool I didnt know about, just curious, how wide of a range does it use. What I mean is, does it only jump to mobs aggroing, or does it target any mob within a certain distance from you.?

I have tried the F8 button but thought it was nerfed long ago. It jumps from all mobs within range?

Maybe I thought it was not working because the Mobs had the same name.

I do the /assist but type the name of MA in at the beginning of the group. It changes the script to the first person I target when I use %T.

Is that because I use (/assist %T ) or ( /Assist %t)?

No AE Mez. I use Screaming Terror. Need to chain cast it and can keep 2 mezzed usually. If I can Target them that is.

Thanks for the Info by the way.

Learning to target the mobs in a bunch is the hardest thing to do as Crowd control.

5 basic ways...

1. luck - click till the name of target changes

2. nearest mob key - MA will push his target backwards so if you are behind him the nearest mob isnt the one he is on. tht only helps for 2 mob pull tho.

3. mezz on INC - dont wait for them to get here all bunched up string them out as they come in.

4. tanks spread- I mezz one at random, my tank backs up 2 steps that pulls teh pile minus the mezzed on a few feet, mezz another at random, tanks moves pile again... repeat.

4a. - Some times they will all aggro you instead of the real tank. I hit escape and will auto target next one to hit me. Mezz it back up a step hit escape and repeat.

4b. - Random means any undamaged one, if it is at 95% HP that is probly your tanks target.

5. - Target the moving parts - I click on the arms that are swinging. The mezzed ones arnt doing that.

Good luck, CC is a blast and is the thing that keeps me from playing any other class.

if i am in that situation (i play both a bard and nec so understand the use of nec CC work) were i can not clearly target the extra mobs for ST, then i will switch to the overhead view.

this will alow you to LOOK DOWN on the mobs and thus be able to target the extra mobs that are not the one your tank is beating on.

then you can start to ST them and lock them down for 18sec at a time.

if they are undead make sure to cast slow on them, and if they do not summon, also make sure to root them and tell the tank to back up. this will start to spread the mobs out a bit, and when ST breaks, you can just mez it again as it is not running to beat on your head.

Remap your 'most recent target' button to a useful key, like Tab. Just target a mob on inc, preferrably one towards the back since most assists are most likely to just grab the first mob they get on F8. Assist, and if it's a different mob, tab and mez. As far as clumped mobs, most mobs have a specific part of their model that targets them. You just need to play around a bit with clicking to find it.

I thought that F8 just targetted the "closest" mob within view.
That said, as a lowbie necro who often is full-time CC, I'd suggest turning off spell effects (yeah I know they're pretty, but do hinder mob targetting) and turn your 3D targeting ring on so you have a better idea which is targetted. Using alternate camera angles is also a good idea. And finally, since you're a necro, forget about mez, just feed extra mobs to your pet.
