Maxing melee points questionFollow

#1 Jan 10 2004 at 5:26 PM Rating: Decent
Am currently a lvl 12 Ranger with max skill in 1HS, but has decided to try and max other melee skills as well. Currently bashing away with 2H axe, but it is taking forever (currently at only 17 out of a possible 65 :O( ) I usually target mobs that con light and dark blue, but does the game award more and quicker skill points for attacking whites and yellows? If this was the case then I would attack a yellow and white near a zone split then leggit once it got a bit hairy.

If you're really wanting to train 2hs and 1hs, you could go as far as switching between the weapon types every other kill as you run exp, but that can get irritating. My suggestion, which I used to train archery, is that you go to the recondite bandit groups in Paludal Caverns when you want to take a break from leveling. It's usually safe to sit between B1 and B2 if you watch yourself, then ask permission of the groups to hack at their mobs a little bit. You won't do anywhere near enough damage to kill steal, and it can help speed up weapon skill development by swinging at reds for a few hours. This can work at pretty much any camped spawn with mobs that are high enough above you that you won't KS them.

This has been the subject of debate in more than a few threads. It has been proven that you will gain less skill ups versus light blue mobs than dark blue (these mobs used to be green earlier in EQ History, green xp, remember?) and you will not gain anything from fighting greens. Since this is true, does this mean that skill ups increase if you go to fight a white, yellow, or even red mob? I personally don't think so. I, and many other posters from different mb's, have seen that it does not increase. Besides, who wants to be counter-productive? Going after higher level mobs will mean more hurt and pain, which means more med and heals are needed, which is downtime you could be using to kill more blues and get more skill ups.

If you really want to get more skill ups with a 2hs weapon, which is kind of slow, becuase it is usually a high delay and you are not dual wielding two weapons, get a faster delay 2hs weapon like a Forged Deathsteel Longsword, unless it is marked wrong, it is the fastest, droppable and cheapest 2hs practicer for a ranger.

Also, you don't have to hit to skill up.

Don't worry about your skills until you get Fear animal at level 22. I think its 22. Then when you about level 24 go get one of these https://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?item=401 and a bunch of these https://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?item=6205 which you can get from this chick http://eqbeastiary.allakhazam.com/search.shtml?id=11987 or from Nelin Signus who is located in and around building 7 in this map http://www.eqatlas.com/planes/planeofknowledgemap.html Up the stairs second door on your left. Use your tracking to help you locate him. Then go here http://www.eqatlas.com/everfrostmap.html and hunt at location -5000(x) and 2000. Use your tracking to locate and kill these http://eqbeastiary.allakhazam.com/search.shtml?id=655. Always pull with snare and then fear them, and wack away with whatever weapon you want to train up. Make sure to loot these https://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?item=2989 as they are worth around 10pp each. You can sell them at marker #7 on the Everfrost map. Good luck. You can train your archery like this too, just be careful of adds, and dont touch the Tainted Mammoth. If you don't get everything trained don't worry, you can always fear kite animals somewhere else...

As a ranger to help increase you weapon skills as quick as possible keep a wisdom and dexterity item with you at all times. You may not want to wear it during tough combat in favor of AC, STR, or STA, but when specifically skilling-up Dexterity is the ability that determines how fast you learn a new skill. It also determines the probability to hit when doing archery.
