Battle Notes

In order to enter the battlefield you will need to bring a Sky Orb, which is obtained by trading 30 Beastmen's Seals to Shami in Port Jeuno. When you are ready, trade the Sky Orb to the door of the Ghelsba Outpost hut and choose to enter the battle Petrifying Pair.

Up to 3 people may enter and you will all receive a level 30 restriction. You have 15 minutes to win. In here you only fight 2 lizards: Kilioa & Kalamainu.

  • The lizards will use Secretion at the beginning of the fight.
  • They will then use Baleful Gaze at full TP.
  • The lizards are possibly immune, or at least mostly resistant, to all Sleep - type spells.

Strategies

One of the most common strategies involves a tank, a DD, and a kiter (usually a RDM/BLM). The tank can be either WAR/NIN or PLD/WAR. DD's are usually a WAR/NIN with a Great Axe or a DRG/WHM (for self-curing while the RDM is Gravity-kiting the other lizard). At the start of the fight, buff, eat appropriate foods, rest to RDM's full MP, and then go after the brown lizard (the one on the left) as the RDM starts Gravity kiting the white lizard on the right. Don't forget, tanks, to unlock target and turn your back to the lizards as soon as you see them ready Baleful Gaze, to prevent being petrified. Once the brown lizard is dead, go and kill the white lizard while the RDM rests up and heals.

3-Boxing
# Jan 11 2009 at 9:49 AM Rating: Decent
Keeping it to the point. This BCNM is quite easy so far I've done it 6 times. Failed 3, won 3 and yet to see the boots. But I've been 3boxing it. This is a re-vision to my ratio. I've done this 10 times now, failed 3, won 7, and have seen the boots once.

Setup:
30 Pld/War (Hobgoblin Chocolate + 2 Yagudo Drinks)
30 War/Nin (with greataxe) (Hobgoblin Chocolate)
30 Rdm/Blm (Yagudo Drink)

This is what you NEED to know.
1st) Both lizards will cast their evasion up ability when you agro them. This means that they will both stand roughly in place for a few seconds before moving in to attack - Meaning that you have time to run into range and bind one of them before they can even move from their spawn spot.

Secondly...Here's some information from my paladin's log (Some of the dmg taken was with sentinel active)
What I was hit for.
Kalamainu hits you for: 51, 50, 48, 50, 43, 69, 36, 45(crit), 29, 27(tailblow), 39(crit), 32, 44(crit), 23 (He can double attack) (all this damaged happened in this order, spread out over the fight of course)
Kilioa hits you for: 31, 15, 22, 18, 24, 33,

*Kilioa hit my paladin considerably less because the warrior/ninja held agro most of the fight.

- Blizzard is your money maker as a RDM, I've yet to have a blizzard hit for less than 78, or more than 78. Aero hit for 56.

- Both lizards will slow/paralyze with out much difficulty (my enfeebling is maxed)

- Gravity will last at the most 1 minute, it should refresh just before it wears off if it runs full duration. If you haven't used gravity much it does an amazing job at slowing the movement speed, you can very easily kite the mob around.

- Bind will last a little less than a minute in my timings, or right at a minute. Either way its a 40 second recast and should refresh before it wears off if it runs full duration.

Reasons for my failures: 1st Attempt and Failure is after the Hobgoblin chocolate wore off (5minute effect) I selected my Instant Warp scroll instead. I moved back and forth and side to side but ultimately it still went off and the Paladin was back in Sandy. I had killed the first lizard at this point. Also note I had burned Invincible and Chain Spell. I kited the white lizzy around while trying to recover hp/mp on War/Rdm but ran out of time.

2nd Wipe was due to bind and gravity not sticking for full duration and being unable to recast due to recast timer! Rdm died before the first lizard Kilioa died. Pld and War finished off Kilio before the Rdm's dieing Bind wore off. I managed to beat Kalamainu to about 20% before dieing, I did use Mighty Strikes for this.

3rd Wipe was due to my power going out.

My fights are pretty well mapped out prior to me going in. Noting the set-up above the battle goes like this.

I load in all three toons and buff up. Protect II on everyone and blink/aquaviel on the RDM. I rest up, when I que heal on the RDM I draw the melee's weapons and use Utsusemi:Ichi on the warrior. When the RDM is at full mana (444mp) I use Hobgoblin Chocolate on the melee and Elemental Seal on the RDM.

I auto run the warrior than the paladin. When the lizards agro they will cast their evasion up buff, I always kill Kilioa first, and before Kala can move off much I have him bound, then I gravity him (the thing that will cause you the most trouble is not seeing when gravity fades, MAKE SURE YOU KEEP GRAVITY UP! GRAVITY AFTER BIND SO WHEN BIND FADES THEY RUN SLOW.

Next I will sentinel on the paladin and berserk on the warrior. The warrior usually has agro at this point so I voke on paladin and utsusemi again on war. Once utsu is recastable I voke on warrior and try to get agro so i can soak 4 hits and paladin heals himself. How long killing Kilioa will take you greatly depends on how lucky you are with landing your hits. I guesstimate she has around 1200-1500hp. Its also during this time I will slow/para kilioa.

If you're lucky all your binds/gravities will run full cycle and you'll never have much trouble as the Rdm, though another caution is to make sure you only cure III after a voke otherwise you're likely to get agro and that can prove lethal.

I've had no luck turning my back to the stone gaze. With Hobgoblin chocolate on it never really lasts long and with the warrior there as a back up tank its really NP.

Outside of a few minor other details I think you can see the flow of the fight. Watch for food fading, make sure you keep aquaviel up if it happens to fade because you won't live very long if the lizzy being kited isn't bound or gravitied. What else to tell you? I don't see using anything but a RDM as the kiter as working. I think two ninjas could do tank/dd, the idea behind a war/nin with a greataxe is to cause less tp gain by the lizard to do stone gaze, but if you have the right food it isn't that much of a problem (in 6 attempts that's my 2 cents).

Any questions you can reply here or message me in game on Seraph server, character's name is Ephron, Anthean, or Analyia.

Just Duo'd this one, was real fun.

Shiva Server
Rdm/nin(Jeujeu) and Thf/nin(me). He kited white, I blind/bloody bolted brown then moved to white. I did get in the red once on the brown one but recovered just fine =D.

I equipped for Rng Acc and Eva then popped a pumpkin.

Oh and used TP for Shadowstitch to bind so I could get away and recast shadows.

Okay, read as much as I could on this, and wanting to do this BCNM soon as RNG/NIN. Got 2 Hawker's Knives and Noct +1 gear for +racc as well as Zamburak +1 for +ratt. My question is do Bloody Bolts work to drain HP on the lizards, as I think it would make survivability a non-issue when you pull hate from the tank, and can just replenish your own HP.

just did this twice, with blu/nin (me) blu/nin and rdm/nin. with this setup this bcnm is a joke. rdm casts bind and gravity on the white lizard then kites it around while me and the other blu destroy the brown. once its dead we rested to full then had the rdm bring the other. With all three of us it didn't last long.
we got crap on the first run but the second run boots dropped so i went home very happy elvaan ^^

I noticed how you said RDM is required... Well it isn't. I'm not the most amazing player and I was capable of kiting it on three consecutive runs with WHM/BLM. I did the BCNM with 2x BST/NIN and was also able to heal them. It's hard to recall but I believe I used Bind, Stoneskin and Paralyze. Bind works really really well so Gravity wasn't necessary for me. And paralyze allowed time for recast along with stoneskin to make sure no interrupt.. (I had capped enfeebling/enhance). It can go horribly wrong if the RDM, WHM or one of your DD/tanks dies, but yeah it is one of the easier BCNM ^^ I might do this because Leaping Lizzy is being horrible to me x.x 0/7 so far.

Ok i just did this run with some random guys doing shouts and we went 2/2

Party Set up
War/Nin (me) - first voke for tanking
War/Nin - back up tank for share vokeing casting utsusemi
Rdm/Nin - for kiting one lizzy til other is dead

Great easy run, had a lil problem with getting petrified, the whole thing about turning around didnt work for us. But all i can say is take out Kalamainu first (white lizzy on the right), and have RDM kite Kilioa (brown lizzy on the left). shouldnt need any high potions but always a safe bet to take a couple, and make sure rdm has yag drinks. other than that just take turns swaping hate and keep ur shadows up and you should be fine.

Great drops for our 2 runs as 1 person didnt have orb, first run leaping boots drop, 2nd run utsusemi: Ni drops. fun easy 350k runs.
i WON

Just curious, but can a BLU and BLM stand a chance duoing this? My cousin and I have quite a few seals to do this BCNM with, and wanted to duo it as Taru BLM, and Hume BLU. Our plan is ES Bind the White Lizard, while the BLU spams the Brown one, and the BLM will cast spell on the Brown one, as well.
After the Brown one dies, we will move on to the White Lizard, Taking it slower. Anybody think this will work?

The BLM will be /WHM
The BLU can go /NIN /WAR /WHM /SAM /THF

Liar.

But anyways, I just went in as rdm/blm with a mnk/war friend.

The only meds we brought were a pro-ether and an icarus wing.

I Protect II'ed us and aquaveiled and blinked myself, then rested to full as he stacked boosts.

He was supposed to open with a fully boosted combo, but he accidentally wasted the boosts on a normal hit. Still though, he started the fight off with a combo, then immediately used hundred fists.

All I did was keep grav/bind on the white lizard and keep the mnk cured. He had trouble keeping hate off of me because of the constant cure III's that I had to spam.

He didn't turn around for 2 petrifications during the fight...

We had the brown lizard down to about 30% before we wiped and I added up the damage in the logs to 1040. So the brown lizard has about 1500 hp.

I had used my pro ether when I ran out of mp.

If we had killed the brown one, I believe I could have bind/grav'ed the white one long enough to rest and allow us to win.

More meds, less *****-ups, and I believe this fight is duo'able by a mnk and a rdm.

My friend had recorded the first fight. I watched the video and apparently he did turn around, but he was still petrified.

We did the fight again, I came with a dagger, planning to do some enspell damage, but I only hit a few times throughout the whole fight. I would recommend not bothering with melee and focusing purely on curing and keeping the white lizard bound and grav'ed.

We brought plenty of hi pots this time. We killed the first lizard, then right when we think we're going to win, the white lizard petrified my friend. I was resting for mp, so I couldn't cure him, and he couldn't use hi pots. The lizard killed him, then made short work of me.

We plan to go one last time and I'll have a few hi ethers on me this time.

Went one last time. My mnk/war friend had 12 hi pots and an icarus wing. I had a pro ether, 5 hi ethers, and 2 hi pots.

Did the usual routine, I didn't bother with melee this time.

I decided to cast slow/para/dia/blind on the brown lizard, didn't help much.

We ran from the fight when I was out of mp and both of us had under 50 hp.

My outlook is severely changed on this fight. Can't be duo'ed without utsutsemi.

Just bring along a third person.

I have quit the game but the last thing i wanted to do before i logged out was duo this BCNM.

Went in me THF/NIN and my friend RDM/...don't know.

I had pretty much max EVA/RACC setup possible with
2x archers knifes
emp pin
those eva+3 earrings
AGI+2 rings
bounding boots
nomads mantle
noct +1 legs and body
and scentless armlets for like 26 eva and lots of racc.
used zamburak +1 and blind/bloody and acid bolts.

I went in and my friend bound the white lizard while i just popped a blind bolt and an acid bolt and just shot away with bloody bolts. With the eva i had the thing only hit once or twice and bloody bolts got that back no prob.
You just have to watch for the gaze and turn if you see them do any tp move.

same strat for the white lizard and this BCNM is eeeeeasily duod without twohours. Did two runs and no drop but hey, at least i found a good BCNM that THF can do. It's not the quickest, but if you can't get three people two is all you need.

was really fun

edit: foodwise i used a jackolantern and rdm used a melon pie. no drinks required for the RDM

Did three runs on this BCNM last night with two LS mates. Our setup was:
BLU/NIN
RDM/BLM
WAR/MNK (me: Eisen set for the +AGI/Vit, Rep. Subligar, Centurion's Axe, etc.)

We went 3/3 with only one death on the first run (I was petrified and couldn't take the hate back from the BLU) with one drop on the Boots and the Gun Belt being the only other notable drop.

The setup we had worked pretty well, and I think the /NIN, /NIN, RDM/? school of thought on this BCNM is a bit limiting. I'd say a RDM, a /NIN, and any capable DD should be able to handle this with few problems. I did the usual Berserk/Boost-spam/Dodge routine, the BLU spammed Bludgeon like it was his job, and the the RDM kited the other lizzy around until we finished up with ours. As for buffs: I used a Pear au Lait for every run, brought 6 hi-potions (only used 3) and only needed one plate of Sole Sushi for all three runs. BLU and RDM buffed with Rolanberry Pies and popped Yag drinks.

All in all, this was a very fun- and not particularly challenging- BCNM with the chance of some pretty decent drops. We missed the record on Remora last night by 42 seconds (our best time was 5:20) but we may try again to see if we can break it.
Easy BCNM, fairly good drops

Did 7 runs (all successful) of this tonight with DRG/WHM(me), NIN/WAR, and RDM/BLM.

We went the recommended route. NIN tanked the brown lizard, I poured out as much damage as I could (+Dia and Healing Breath, though I don't think they were necessary in hindsight), and the RDM kited the grey one around. For the most part, this setup works out very well, most runs being very steady if everyone knows what they are doing.

Only close call we had was on the very last try when both Bind and Gravity wore within a few seconds of casting, almost killing the RDM. With Chainspell, he rebounded, cast bind and gravity, and got off a couple Drains on the one we were fighting.

As for drops, we were 2/7 on leaping boots and 1/7 on the gun belt. The other drops were mostly trash with spells and materials that sell for about 1k and a couple other belts. Our NIN, who was 0/46 on Lizzy, commented that this was a MUCH better, easier, less time consuming way of getting those boots, and I couldn't agree more.

Gob Chocolate no longer seems to give Lizard Killer. we did it tonight, two people had used chocolate and we didn't get a single proc of the killer effect. not one. out of the entire battle.

maybe hobgob chocolate does, but gob does not.

on a different note, i had some moderate success tonight with only one person having utsusemi, but it required au laits hi potions yag drinks and a hi-ether.

Did this 8 times last night as BLU/NIN, BLU/NIN, RDM/BLM and just slaughtered it. BLU get Lizard Killer by 30 which helps a ton in this fight and with two BLU Head Butting and Bludgeoning the first liz, the RDM doesn't even have to worry about them.

Our fight started like this:

The RDM Elemental Seal Bind the white liz while the two Blu engage the other. RDM then casts slow, paralyze, and dia on the brown liz. Blu do their thing and just attack the liz. We tried back tanking with two BLU and it was actually worse to do. BLU should melee and cast spells, because even if one of you gets stoned or silenced, a bludgeon will turn the mob so you can wait it out without death.

Meanwhile the RDM has it easy, between Bind and Grav you should never get hit or run out of mp. In fact, with seal, you can bind to bind and by then the first liz should be dead. Then just slow, paralyze, dia the white one while they wail on it and it's all over.

Set server record every run as we got better and better. Eventually getting it to just a few seconds over 4 minutes.
Use your enfeebles!

Paralyze works wonders on these rascals. They attack very fast, so I was hit them with Paralyze and Slow, and it did wonders for us.

We had a lot of success last night with this BCNM. I was the RDM/BLM (slightly higher INT for less resists on bind/gravity) and I had two melee DD's (NIN/RNG and DRG/NIN) with utsusemi access. We ate Goblin Chocolate (which gives the same lizard killer effect as hobgoblin chocolate), which really seemed to help out a lot. After the first run where we were getting our feet wet (which we won), neither of the melee's HP ever got in the orange. All the real danger in this one is on the RDM. Here's what I reccommend.

Start the battle with a buff session. Protect II, Shell, Blink, and Aquaveil. Rest to full MP. Eat food. Now, the RDM runs out along the right wall and casts Gravity (has a longer recast timer) on the white lizzy. As soon as the lizards aggro, they use secretion, which should give your melee's plenty of time to get the brown one's attention. Have the melee's lead the brown one to the far left and you lead the white one to the far right. Bind. Run to the far left and cast regen on everyone and cure if needed. Rest until the ****** unbinds (you'll have plenty of warning from the far side of the field with or without gravity), lead him back over and rebind.

Rinse and repeat.

Oh, and as a previous poster said, the very INSTANT that they start readying any special move, turn the **** around.

Hope this helps someone =D

Tried this tonight with some DD who didn't have Utsusemi. There was myself (RDM/BLM with +15 INT from gear and then +4 INT from pie), a DRK/THF and a MNK/WAR. The theory was that the two DD could bounce hate back and forth, and the DRK/THF could put out an awful lot of damage as long as he could get a SA, which is why i had the MNK sub WAR. We wiped 3x. However, I DO think that it CAN be done without Utsusemi if you have a couple of people skilled at switching hate. We got the last lizard over half dead twice, and the first time it was totally botched. I used a Vampire Juice the first round (definatly reccomend over yag drinks if you can find/afford them), yag drinks the second and third and a rolanberry pie, and the melee's used chocolate (the chocolate only takes effect if you're meleeing the creature). I had two ethers on me just to be sure, but i never got below like 80 mp.

Here's what went wrong.

First round; We tried it like usual, I take the white one they take the brown one. The tank's 'voke macro wouldn't go off, so i got like 3/4 of my hp gone almost imediately (even with aquaviel up I got interrupted casting gravity with two wailing on me. Would have gone off sooner, but I didn't wait long enough after running to start casting). After they got hate under control, I bound the white one on the far right side and ran over to the left side to heal them. I was very busy healing, and had a lot of trouble balancing this with keeping the white one gravity'd/bound. I ended up drawing hate from having to use a Cure III on each of them and dieing since, at that very moment, they both got petrified. Neither of them really got turning around in time down.

Second Round; I tried a new strategy. This time, I went after the brown one. Initially, this seemed to be working better since the white one wasn't damaging the melees as much.... but, this is very important to note, the brown one seems to resist magic. Gravity/Bind were waring faster than I could recast them, which meant that not only was I getting pummled, I was unable to keep the melee's healed due to all the running back and forth. Still, we got the white one dead really fast, and they started in on the brown one. Again, I was forced to over-cure due to a TP attack that did over 100 damage to the tank followed by a crit, got hate, and, since voke wasn't up and the DRK was out of MP, died. still, they would have had it if not for an untimely 'voke on the MNK's end. There he was, in the red, with the DRK at full HP. the DRK is getting whacked, he has 2hr'd, the MNK has hundred fists up... he provokes at 69 hp, and is killed in two hits. I barely had enough time to get out the words (out loud, since we're in the same room) "you really shouldn't have done that..." to which he replied "I hit the wrong ******* macro". So the MNK goes down right after 2hring, and the DRK soon follows. I think we had the brown one down to like 1/4 HP. So, we could have had it if not for that accidental 'voke.

Third Round; Encouraged by the success (relatively speaking) of the last battle, we tried the same strategy again. This one was lost mostly due to bad luck with partial resists of Gravity/Bind, but also because of another untimely provoke.

Keep in mind, this is as a Hume RDM/BLM with +19 INT. I couldn't have done anything more for preventing resists without a black neckerchef (or being Taru), and I'm not sure the extra +1 INT would be worth taking off my holy phial.

Reccomendations; If possible, get Utsusemi on both melee's. If not possible, practice trading hate first on some lower level monsters and turning around for TP attacks and all that, which shouldn't be a problem as long as you know the people you're doing it with. Melee's- chocolate (and if you can convince them to do it, an HP regen drink which will stack with the spell). Mage- Rolanberry Pie for the extra MP and INT boost and Vampire Juice/Yag Drink. If the melee's cannot get shadows, they need to have uber damage output. This battle is not won by killing the last lizard, its won by killing the first one without having to cure bomb. Finally, I would reccomend kiting the white one due to lower resists. That should about cover it... Good luck.

Go war/nin war/nin rdm/blm you can't go wrong, use Hobgoblin Choclate for food which gives resist petrify and lizard killer, the resist pet. doesn't work well in preventing petrify but you will notice petrify wears off alot faster. The lizard killer effect works great, about 30-40% of the time the lizards will be intimidated (sometimes more often, we had a lizard get intimidated about 10x in a row)
Have the RDM kite the white lizard, while tanks work on the brown one. the white one doesn't hit as hard as the brown one so you don't want your rdm getting their asses kicked, as no rdm close to the beginning = death.
I've gone 11 runs on this and we never wiped, we had lost the rdm once and the war once, both times it was because the 2 war's were both petrified, but we still won.
Dropped Utsusemi: Ni most of the time.. like 5 or 6/11 runs, and boots dropped twice, erase never dropped. But that's fine as the boots go for less than the scroll of Utsusemi: Ni now.

If any rdm or war wants to try out this BCNM on Remora send me a /tell on Ortage. I'm always up to do this bcnm cuz it's so easy :)
easy bcnm

0/3 Runs
We don't know what kepy going wrong.
The redmage was able to kite EASILY, but some how at one point or another it all went to hell.
We only got close to killing both once, and always killed the brown one 1st.

I'm thinking now that I'm looking back that most of our failures started by someone being petrified...

btw, got leapin boots on final run, and ni on first run, and got disple x2... 4/5. if you need assist /tell Rozzo (rng)
