Description

Tielleque: "I realize that you are in a hurry, sir. However, might I make a simple request. One of our associates chocobos has lost her way and cannot return home.

Tielleque: "Would you be so kind as to deliver her to the hidden stables in Norg?

Tielleque: "Oh, thank you very much. You shall be rewarded by our associates upon delivery of the chocobo."

Enter the tunnel on the border of E-11 and F-11 in Yuhtunga Jungle. A cutscene appears with Marilleune.

Marilleune: "You've helped our poor girl find her way home! I don't know how to thank you!

Marilleune: "And to think you make it here in a mere (time)(Earth Time)!

Marilleune: "Oh, and by the way, the fastest adventurer to date has been (name). That talented rider traversed the same course as you in (time) (Earth Time)!

Marilleune: "Anyway, please take this as a token of our appreciation. And stop by again sometime. We may have more work for you!"

East San d'Oria Glyph/Wiki

Yeah I just barely did the Sandy to Jeuno one, I've done it a few times on my old account and if you look in wiki it'll tell you that you can repeat this as many times as you want, it'll change up place to place, and I believe someone has a list of the times, but yeah I set the record from Sandy to Jeuno (12 minutes 56 seconds, previous time 12 minutes 58 seconds) and I got a East Sandy Gate Glyph jigger, I've had one before it's just a warp pretty much, just thought I'd throw that in.. here's the link to the wiki page, Sandy anyway, the other 4 links are at the bottom, it'll list the rewards for time. http://wiki.ffxiclopedia.org/wiki/A_Chocobo_Riding_Game_%28San_d%27Oria%29

I've done the Kazham~Norg ride and it doesn't get added into your Quest Log. I'm not sure of the time needed to get better than greens. I do know for a fact I've made it within the range of 3:00-3:30 minutes and got greens. ><

It seems like the random Sandy/Bastok/Windy ones will not show up in your Quest Log.

The MithraPride racing timers don't list the Kazham to Norg quest (which is specifically listed here), so I'm not sure if this is a special (maybe one-time only?) quest that *does* get listed in your Quest Log after completion?

Anyone know?

Upon completion of this quest does it show up in your quest log?
In San d'Oria, Bastok, or Windurst
# Oct 17 2005 at 11:37 AM Rating: Decent
In these cities, the Chocobo Stables each have 3 people you can rent a chocobo from. One of these 3 offers the quest to take a chocobo to Jeuno, the other 2 give quests to the other 2 cities. If you like free chocobo rides, it may pay off to remember which one gives the quest to which city, because (in my experience, anyway) you usally get the quest from the 1st one that you talk to. If you talk to one of the chocobo handlers and the city they mention isn't the one you want to go to, just wait a while, and that one will stop offering the quest, and switch to one of the other two. Also from my experience, one of the three is almostalways offering the quest, so make sure to check all 3 if the 1st one you talk to doesn't give you the quest. Hope this help.

Now if there were quests to take chocobos FROM Jeuno, that'd be the real money saver. -_-;

They must have changed something, because whenever I go to the stables, only one NPC offers the chocobo race, the others simply offer to rent you a chocobo.

I believe there is a "cycle" of city choices. You have to wait for the in-game day to change and the NPC will change the destination to which you have to return the chocobo. I've never been patient enough to sit and check every hour! So as soon as she offers the destination I want I just grab it, but it does change once an hour.

There's a timed schedule of which destination you will be pointed towards, depending on where you start. See the mithra pride link posted earlier.

I just did the one from Kazham to Norg Saturday night. However, being as that was my second trip to Norg - ever - I didn't make it in time (didn't know which tunnel was the correct one. I was one minute off of the record.

And I have been offered the quest by different NPCs in the same stable, so I don't know how accurate the above idea really is.

Anyway, it appears that the quest is offered weekly, if you attempt it. Anyone else able to confirm this?

There is a waiting period. I started to think it was after conquest updates on Sunday. However, I'm starting to think that it's once a week Earth time. I say this because the last time I did the quest was last Friday night, and when I tried to do it again last night (Thursday) they still didn't give me the option. If I can do it tonight, I will post here and start timing it.

Does anyone have a simpler way to answer this?

Just so you know, the speed of your connection makes a HUGE difference in this race/game.
I do the Chocobo race every sunday morning, shortly after the conquest tally. I believe you can do it more than once within a week if you do NOT get the top prize (Miratete's Memoirs or Dragon Chronicles), however, I'm not sure of this.
I do know that you simply have to do the run within a specified time.

When you speak to the stables NPC, she will offer you a run to one of the other cities. You do not have to accept the run immediately if it isn't a good destination. If you wait one game day (about an hour) the destination stables will change.

____________________________________________
PAGE FROM MIRATETE'S MEMOIRES

From Bastok, you can only get Miratete's Memoirs if you do a Windurst run.
Run time: under 32'29"

From San d'Oria, only if you do a Windurst run.
Run time: under 28'29"

From Windurst, you have the choice of either going to San d'Oria or Bastok for the top prize of a page from Miratete's Memoires.

Bastok run time: under 32’29”
San d'Oria runtime: under 28'29"
____________________________________________
NEXT BEST PRIZE: PAGE FROM DRAGON CHRONICLES

San d'Oria to Bastok
or
Bastok to San d'Oria

Run time: under 20'00
____________________________________________
other prizes possible include:

Chocobo tickets
Teleportation Glyphs
Gysahl Greens

Important notes if you decide to try the races:
Push your chocobo. Don't wait for the image to appear on the screen. The timer is running down even while the screen is dark and it says "downloading data". Be pushing the chocobo even before it appears on the screen, you'd be surprised how many seconds you lose just standing there waiting for the image to appear and you could have been running.

If you have a very slow ISP, those "downloading data" messages will be your downfall. I choose to do the Bastok to San d'Oria run every week simply because I KNOW that I can do it within the allotted time. I've tried the Bastok to Windurst one, and it can't be done with the speed of my ISP. The transitions take much too long, and I waste precious time with a black screen "downloading data".

OH! By the way, for those daring to do the longer run... you need chocobo clothing, obviously, since you only have your chocobo for 30 minutes, and those runs take a few minutes more.

You only need to bring the chocobo to the entrance of the city, you will dismount by yourself and get a cutscene where an attendant will give you your time and, if you were fast enough, your prize.

NOTE. I didn't include the Jeuno runs, since I presumed that most people want the experience pages? I guess I can include those as well:
Bastok to Jeuno: 18'29"
Windurst to Jeuno: 15'29"
San d'Oria to Jeuno: 13'29"

I believe there is also a run from Kazham to Sea Serpent Grotto, but I haven't confirmed that one since I don't spend all that much time there. Maybe someone could add that information?

EDIT: silly me, I didn't take the time to realize that this entire thread starts from the kazham-SSG chocobo race.
I'm not sure of the time to do it in, however, but it's a very short time span, a matter of a few minutes.

Not true, the lost chocobo will not kick you if you're doing this quest. Or at least it seems to last a lot longer. I first did the Windy-->Bastok run when this thing first came out so I had no idea what I was doing. Got there in 40 minutes without any chocobo gear. I don't know if this means you have unlimited time to dig however, I never tried.

Yes, there is one to Sea Serpents Grotto from Kazham, but I've only tried it once and got Greens. Not sure what your time has to come under, but mine was well over 15 I believe, and that's terrible for a single zone run as short as that ><
Rewards
# Oct 03 2005 at 8:23 PM Rating: Decent
I don't know where people get half the stuff they say here. It doesn't matter if you break a record or not. It just matters if you make it in a certain time. Now, keep in mind that they don't tell you how long that time is. For example, the Bastok -> San d'Oria run is a 20:00 limit.

Look at the Mithra Pride link down a few posts, and go take a look. If you beat that time you get the best prize. Best prize is always a page of Dragon Chronicles, Miratete's Memoirs, or a Gate Glyph.

If you don't make it in time, that's when you get Greens. They give those to you because you suck.

I set a new record
# Oct 03 2005 at 4:39 PM Rating: Decent
I broke the record for this going from Windy to Bastok at 33mins and 9 secs. Cutting almost 20 secands of the old time. and you get a page for the Dragon Cronicals too. that is is your time is close to the record.you get something even better if you set a new one, but I don'tremember the items name.
Lost Chocobo - Bastok to Jeuno
# Oct 03 2005 at 1:45 PM Rating: Decent
I did this about three weeks ago, because I was going to Jeuno anyway and had done it a couple of times before, resulting in only Gysahl Greens. Well, I hauled it through Gustaberg, took the right path through Konschtat and the narrow path northeast through Pashow, and almost a straight line north through Rolanberry. I didn't set the record, but I came within 30 seconds (I think I was under 18 minutes), and I received this:

Bastok Mines Gate Glyph

It's like an Instant Warp Scroll, except that it takes you to the listed location no matter where your home point is. Pretty handy for questing when you need to go back and forth between two places and don't want to reset your home point. Or if you're an idiot like me and tried to bloodport as a Level 1 BRD and forgot your home point was Selbina. ><

Edit: Just tried a Bastok-Windurst run. I got all the way to East Sarutabaruta in 30:17 Earth time and my choco craps out about ten paces into the zone. I wasn't wearing any chocobo gear, so if you plan on trying this marathon pick up some of the plus-ride time items.

easy
# Oct 03 2005 at 1:04 PM Rating: Decent
Well, to put it short, this quest was easy. I believe all you get are gysahl greens and it does boost your fame. So if I do get this quest on the way to somewhere, it can help. Also, a trick I could try to use is get the quest, but instead of going to the certain area with the chocobo, you can use it as a free ride. I do not know if you can get this quest again, but if (most likely) you cannot, then it wouldn't be such a good idea. Just a theory =)

You have the potential to get Gate Glyphs, or pages from the Dragon Chronicles or Miratete's Memoirs {Expereince points}{Yes, please.}

If you don't make it in good time, you can also get a chocobo ticket/pass or gysahl greens.

This is a nice quest...

Where do you have to dismount to finish?

Ok, I did the Bastok to Windurst Chocobo Run at 31 minutes 48 seconds. I hugged the walls, took shortcuts (straight lines) and rode like grease lightning. When I zoned to East Sarutabaruta I got my time above. But I did not receive anything!!! No cutscene no nothing so I am wondering what went wrong? Now I am wondering where do you have to dismount? At the gate?

Oh, I had chocobo riding boots which provided me the extra time. LS buddy Niusha is gonna make me hose and maybe the tunica if his Skill is high enough. You will need that equipment to do the long ride from Windy to Bastok or Sandy or vice versa.

I did the Khazam chocobo ride and got greens them cheap thieving punks!!!

So can someone confirm my suspicion that you have to go from gate to gate to complete the chocobo ride? And what the trick to/from Windy Ride?

Also notice that chocobo riding gear like triple in prices!!!

Yes, you have to go from gate to gate to finish. Just before you reach the gate, you will automatically dismount and get a small CS and receive your reward.

I've done this a few times now...it's fun. I just need to figure out how long I have to wait until the next time I can do it.

Oh, and the Mithra Pride link given above is very handy. So here it is again in case it was missed:

This can be gotten from the chocobo stables in Kazham, Windy, Sandy, and Bastok. Not in the stables in Jeuno, and not at Rabao or the crags. It will never show up in your quest log. And yes, it is repeatable.

Anyway, here's a good page that tells when you can do which races and what the best reward you can get is: http://www.mithrapride.org/vana_time/chocoracetable.html Other than the best reward, you can also get Gysahl Greens and Chocobo Tickets.

This can happen in any chocobo stable. And I think you can get it once every conquest update, but I'm not positive on that.

Oh, and I was about 10 seconds or so away from the record, and I got an item that gives you exp. So it's worth doing just for that. ^^
