Summary

There are reports that the Cat Burglar has been loitering around the Ghostly House in Windurst Walls. This looks like a job for the Star Onion Brigade! Gather four wild onions so Kohlo-Lakolo and his gang can create the perfect trap!

Walkthrough

Speak once again to Kohlo-Lakolo in Port Windurst and he will explain he is now in need of some wild onions. You can get these from Goblin Thugs out in the Sarutabaruta plains. When you have obtained 4 onions, return to Kohlo-Lakolo and watch the cutscene. He will give you a reward at the end: a Scroll of Blaze Spikes.

After you give Kohlo-Lakolo the four onions and receive the scroll, head over to the House of the Hero in Windurst Walls at (G-3). There will be a cutscene when you try to enter the building. After the cutscene run back to Kohlo-Lakolo to finish the quest.

Minimum Requirement
# Dec 05 2008 at 11:40 AM Rating: Decent
The minimum level requirement for this quest "Know One's Onions" is level 5.

I had some problems figuring this out myself, but after deciphering all the below posts and leveling up myself I was able to start this quest.
hmmm

do you have to be from Windurst to be able to do this mission???
here's one way!

ok this quest is so damn strange it must have a lot of factors for it to be given to you!

1. using a mithra THF nation = windust (no kidding)
2. started out with pretty much fame = 1
3. did "Truth, Justice, and the Onion Way" @ THF1 (btw this is a mule)
4. tried to flag this one and got "the first rule is..." annoyance
5. reading the posts here i tried the suggestion to talk to Machechi or other and still "The first rule is..." annoyance
6. went to do some quests to see if it helps:
a) Hat in the Hand (ended up doing it twice, didnt talk to enough ppl for hat)
b) The Postman always K.O.'s Twice (flagged other quests along the way, does that help? have no idea...)
7. went back to kids and once again "the first rule is..." annoyance
8. decided to do more quests and found myself nearly getting my butt handed to me by a yagudo initiate (was lvl 4 atm and survived with literally 1 hp left). killed a few more things gaining a muddy bar tab(again) and lvl 5 (yay for me).
9. was about to give up but talked to the brats again instead and...
LO AND BEHOLD!!!! I FLAG THE QUEST, SHOVE THE ONIONS DOWN THE KIDS THROAT, SNATCHED THE BELOVED SCROLL, AND SING "ALELUYAH ALELUYAH" ALL THE WAY HOME!!!!!
...
...
if that helps great, if not... like i said in the beginning "...this quest so damn strange..."

good luck and may your "force feeding onions to kids" be most gratifying!
here's one way!

No Drops
# May 28 2007 at 5:05 AM Rating: Decent
I have killed at least 50 goblin thugs without a single drop. I am getting good spawns near the entrance for Hortuto Ruins(sp), but NO drops at all. Is there a better place to farm the onions?
New Requirements

I have just finished getting this Quest with one of my mules.

It took me all weekend, because the requirements have changed to get the quest.

First I used my lvl 1, fame 1, Windurst Mithra.

I got the 1st SOB Quest done without a problem. But could not get this quest. SO I went out and leveled up to lvl4. No change.

Then I used a Bastok Mule to send 52 Cornette's for the Quest : Mandragora-MAD

I confirmed that I have acheived Fame lvl 4

Still can't get the quest. So I brought in my Sandy lvl 14 Mule. Got the Quest with no problems. She had Windurst fame 1. So it must be a level requirement. I will find out and post what it is when I figure it out.
Please please someone help me!

I did the quest "Know ones onions". I traded the onions, I got the cut scene and I got the scroll of Blaze Spikes. I want to do the next quest "Inspector's Gadget" I already have the Saruta Cotton. But when I try to talk to Kohlo-Lakolo in Port Windurst behind the warehouse all he tells me is the first rule junk. I tried going to the House of Heros and only get that the door is firmly shut. No cut scene...no nothing!

I even went to Windhurst Waters and talked to Chamama but I had a quest open for her to get pickle stones. I gave her several stones and finally get her to accept one....great that one is done! I talk to her thinking she will open this quest and she informs me that she dropped the stone and broke it. She has done this twice now!

All I want is the fake moustache from her.

How can I get this Inspector's Gadget to open so I can finsh this out!

Thanks.

I am really hating to do quests in Windy.

This may be weird, but when I traded the onions to Kohlo, I cut the cutscene with the house right away and then I'm standing in front of them afterwards and I get Blaze Spikes. Then, Quest Completed. Should that have happened?

This happened to me as well.
I accepted this quest for very very long ago. Maybe last year, in 2005.
And I never completed it.
Today, however, I happened to be cooking with some Wild Onions, so after farming them, I got 4 for Kohlo and turned them in.

Guess this happens when we take too long to trade the Onions, so those kids became impatient and went to the House without us XD

I think what they are getting at is that in order to go out and kill the Goblin Thugs to get the onions to drop, you need to be level 4. So, while you can buy the onions and do the quest as a level 1, you would not have much luck trying to kill the gobs for the onions as a level 1.

I did the, 'true justice and the onion way' quest first then tried to start this quest, but it did not prompt me at first. I went around town and talked to Machichi in the Port area (E5) who mentioned the thief. I went back and spoke to Kohlo-Lakolo, then I was prompted to start this quest. I did this at lvl 8 with only 2 quests done prior, so I don't think fame is envoled at all. This is a nice little quest since I sent the scroll to my main in san d'oria (it currently sells there for 15K at AH)

I did the tail portion, then left the area and came back and gave them the four wild onions - got the scroll for blaze spikes immediately. They said to meet at the "ghostly house" and I went to the House of the Hero in Walls and tried to open the front door--this triggered the cutscene. I went back to meet them behind the warehouses again, and they talked about the Mana Orb that the cat-burgler dropped and one of them found. I expect I'd have to leave the area and come back to get this next "Inspector Gadget" quest...... anyways, I just wanted the Blaze Spikes scroll. ^^

Maybe the requirements to complete the quest change, or are different based on race/job/home country or something else. I just did it on a new character of mine I started in Windurst. I traded the Wild Onions as asked and seen a cut-scene right there of the ****** tossing a stinkbomb on the burglar Nanaa Mihgo. There was no mention of going anywhere else...no mention of a haunted house...and the quest is marked as complete in my quest log.

A couple people have recently said that you don't need to go to the House of Heroes to complete the quest, but earlier today I did the quest, got the Scroll of Blaze Spikes and thought I was done. Four hours later (after several zones, so I dunno how that affected it) I looked in Current Quests and found that it was still unfinished. Used the NPC to warp to Walls. Went to House of Heroes. Laughed my li'l *** off at the cut scene. Went back. NOW it's completed; I have the title; and I have the scroll. /pwn

If you don't give a crap about BLM spells, then do this series of quests for the easy money and the cutscene for Know One's Onions. SE apparently does have humor. (Now, if only they had expertise in the not-letting-your-servers-crash-every-day field...)
WTF?

Ok, I did the quest, got the scroll of Blaze Spikes, then went to the house,a nd it kept saying the door was firmly shut. No cutscene. I'm rank 2 right now. I tried talking to that nearby NPC that calls it a ghostly house, then went back, and the same thing, firmly shut. Any ideas???

I'm not sure if I turned the onions in before hand, but I brought some with me, and stupidly, I talked to the leader before trading the onions. I got a cut scene, laughed at the 'Cat Burgular's misfortune, and I'm not sure I got the scroll of Blaze Spikes. I might have gotten the scroll long time ago, I'm not sure. Oh well... *shrug* I can re-do this quest with my Mule for the scroll if I really want it. Though, I didn't get the title for this quest either. I suppose if I did it right, I would have been in the cutscene, and gotten the blaze spikes.

I can confirm that now the quest works a little different, there is no need to go to the House of Heroes to complete this quest.
