Chain attacks

As I understand it, the chain attacks are by Race (similiar to the lvl 5 death and such, but effect race rather then level). If you are the target of the chain of your race and have not killed the ark angels they effect you, if it is not of your race or you have completed the appropriate arch angel (hence have the key item) it will not affect you.

Not sure how accurate this is, since I was unable to test this (had DM completed by the time I did this fight). However, the way it was explained to me made sense, and the effect to me was moot. Whether you can get effected by all chains, or the one of your race is an unknown to me, but I am willing to bet everyone who has gotten hit by them hasn't completely the ark angel fight.

It's going to take a lot of work before you're able to fight this. You need to do many difficult missions and be a skilled player before eligable for this mission. Best of luck at starting ^^.

Well, it's over. Finally put an end to one of the most difficult and frustrating game programs of all time. Chains of Promathia is the HARDCORE difficulty experience, the road of the intense player. Along the way you will have to face horrible monsters, grueling dungeons and the all terrible unrealistic network disconnect error monster. Don't forget the lag beast and the migraine enducing task of making people try to work together on something that doesn't pay money for longer than their attention span gives out.

Strangely enough, the very end boss is not quite as hard as I expected. Mission 6.4 is without a doubt THE hard mission - the one that will decide if you continue or not to {Sea}. We won easily going there on one trip, though there were some problems (major problem was a certain overzealous Black Mage who had a habit of ruining people's Two Hour Abilities by intentionally gaining aggro all the time to try to prove how "leet" he was...) from certain leechy team members and some of Promathia's random doom attacks. Even though our run could've been smoother (thanks a lot Black Mage fool) we bashed him down eventually and saved the world in one night. Quite an accomplishment overall, considering these missions were designed to be intentionally unfair in difficulty.

BTW --- AWESOME final fighting area, one of the coolest I've seen in any game, ever. I'm glad it's over. Now that it's done, once again my focus turns to the wonders and treasures of the real world after exploring this crazy section of cyberspace. Thanks Square+Enix for a very challenging and, in the end, rewarding experience. I will now have my Rajas Ring, proof of my determination and pure Willpower to conquer whatever is thrown my way - either from my team, from a network error or from the monster itself.

Hey whats up?
I made a video-compilation of my CoP set. It shows the battle against Promathia and some screenshots of our journey. It may contain spoilers for you, but I didnt record any cut scene.
I encourage everyone to finish Cop missions, storyline it's just awesome.
Best regards.

The reason the chains attack doesnt work is because you got the light of the corresponding crystals back, that was the ENTIRE purpose of the quest before that, just to get those lights. Each race has to get the light of the crystal to fill in the darkness that is their weakness. Its more for show than anything else like "Here this move is why you did that" it wont do anything to palyers.

The next expansion is coming out sooner than expected. How much do you want to bet there will be a mad rush of people wanting to finish CoP before then?

My static did not form until the 1st week of March and we beat Promathia last night (May 5th). I am logging in after this post to get my Ring.

All in all, the missions werent as hard as people made them out to be. From 2-5 to Promathia the only BC's we repeated were 2-5 (1 repeat), Snoll (1 repeat) and 6-4 (we wont on our 6th run). Every other BC we won on our 1st attempt. The only other BC that pushed us at all was the Mithra Sinhunters and we did that 50 cap with me as a 47 SMN and our MNK going as his 42 WHM.

Our static was made up of:

75 WHM or 75 BRD or 63 BLM (me)
75 MNK or 75 BRD
75 MNK
75 BLM
75 PLD
67 BLM

Most BC's we did as WHM, MNK, BRD, BLM, BLM, PLD but we changed around some on the 40 and 50 cap BC's.

Anyway, Promathia was one of the better battles and the arena is freaking awesome. Now I cant wait to kill Bahamut and do 8-5.

Just did this fight, and got an answer to what this move does :P

I forgot which one of the "Chains" it was, but the 2nd or 3rd time he did it, everyone else got the usual "No effect" except Garuda, who got... *dun dun dun* Terrorized :O

Don't know how long the effect lasts, because I released her after like 10 seconds, and it still hadn't worn off.

One thing that confused me quite a bit about this Promathia was his "Chains" attacks. If you don't know what I mean, im talking about "Chains of Apathy," "Chains of Cowardice," etc.

My first thought was that if it hit you and it was your own race's negative aspect it would have some kind of effect, but apathy did nothing to me (hume) and cowardice did nothing to the tarus. Then I assumed maybe it had to hit two or more people of the right race yet apathy did nothing to me and our other hume when it hit us at the same time. Finally I thought maybe it has a random effect like it can possibly kill you but I never saw cowardice do anything to the tarus, apathy do anything to the humes, or rage do anything to our big ol' galka.

I guess I can't complain because it made winning this a lot easier and it doesnt really matter now cause we beat it anyway. I'm just kind of curious if anyone knows anything about what these attacks can do.

I heard somewhere on some forums that there is a VERY low chance for Promathia to land it's "Chains of ______" on you, it gives you an unremovable Curse effect and if I remember right from that post, the curse affect will also keep lowering your max HP/MP.

I can't confirm it, since I've always resisted the attack, but I can imagine how bad the tank would be SOL if it landed on them and then Promathia hits them with comet.

i really loved this battle, it was so dramatic! i loved how at the very end all the main characters got a finishing blow on promathia>_> also even better was the ending after you wait a day after you beat him, with the very first vocal singing on FFXI! and then prishe cries and it was so sad>_> i thought it was just cool how they did the epilogue, and what was tenzen doing in tavnazia to hear ulmia sing when in the epilogue he went on the airship>_>?

I'm going to love how the next expansion tops this battle, 2nd form of Promathia has the best music ever, although he was pretty easy to beat.

man this guy would be hard if it wasn't for Prishe and Selt'heus o_O they are just...uber! Selt'heus uses stun skills and a skill named Redemption to heal the entire pts HP MP and TP (same effect as those phoenix feathers in this game, forget what the one that does total heal is called) and prishe benes and hundred fists. good thing is u dont have to worry about them dieing, pld got to low HP and whm dc'd, and then it started smacking around Selt'heus, and he redemptioned ^^ so im not sure if its about his HP or what, he got kinda low really fast and then redemptioned. still, great fight, great cutscene, awesome music, and u get to fight a true god and get to be in a group with two godlike characters =D love it

BTW: Prishe is badass, she so cool >.>

Very fun fight :). Kinda wish my PS2 picture section of the hard drive wasn't full when I fought him *mutter*.

Prishe used Benediction and Selh'teus used Rejeuvination(sp? his form of benediction which went off seconds after I died to meteor) during the fight. On the second form, Promathia is not stunnable by any means(Weapon bash has no effect when used. Doesn't even do damage.) except by Selh'teus which uses an attack which stuns Promathia for a good 5 seconds.
