Info on Chieftain
# Jul 10 2003 at 12:29 PM Rating: Excellent
Thougt id share what little info ive got on the Chieftain. Ive camped him twice so far, once with a 60 Wizzie back when I was around lvl 25 and now im back there again to get some stuff to twink my alts with. Smudging Stick is definitely, hands down the rarest of the drops. Next to that, would probably be the Staff of Living Sands. I'm not sure about pestle and any of the other drops, I haven't even seen a piece of acrylia drop off him yet. But enough, heres the info on the Chieftain himself.
First off, he runs on about an 8 min spawn time. His Bodyguards run a little shorter, more around a 6-7 min timer. Take the bodyguards out first. Chieftain himself is perma-rooted and will not move. Easiest way I found to attack him is to move just up to (but not all the way) the tip of the ladder. Dont go all the way up and the spiritists wont attack you, they'll only sit there and heal the Chief. If you can hit hard enough and fast enough, you should be able to take him down even with the heals. If your not hitting hard enough or quick enough, its best to take out the spiritists first, otherwise your in for a long and painfull fight. Not sure on his HP amount, but I will try and check it out and give a few estimates. Also, watch for Grimling Defenders after you loot. They spawn after you kill chieftain now that war is back up and running and con LB to me at 40. Im pretty sure they summon, just havent gotten close enough to find out. (Dont want to either) The Defenders are also perma-rooted and will take out the enraged owlbears that spawn to start the war. Easiest thing to do is just let them kill the bears and then despawn. I'll add a lil more info on drop rates and the like later after Ive solod (or tried to) him a bit more.

All defenders (sonic, owl, grim) are indifferent and won't attack, but they do summon.
summoning
# Jun 07 2003 at 2:16 PM Rating: Decent
No one here has said this guy summons..if they have I have missed it in the stack of posts.

I tried to kill this guy with my 52 druid and I only got Snare and Root on him and he started summoning me. Snare and root have no damage that ticks when the spell timer ticks down...Normally mobs summon when someone has either done too much damage with nukes or has dotted them up good and they summon when the dots tick...Everytime I got away from him he summoned me back. If I hadn't gated away he would have killed me with his "Sinking Sands" or what ever it was.

Druid root does damage.

Damage = summoning.

Case closed.
RE: summoning
# Aug 24 2004 at 12:58 AM Rating: Default
Nope, druid root is a very small amount of damage. If a mob goes to 98% he will start summoning, otherwise they will never summon...

He Drops Acrylia?
# Jun 02 2003 at 5:42 AM Rating: Decent
Ive camped this guy for hours on end for days and ive never gotten acrylia from him. Lots of runes, Ornate Shell Pestle, Smudging Stick, and ond of those Staffs, but not acrylia. This must be a new drop.
He drops Acrylia!!!!!!

Killed him the other day with my lvl 39 Iksar Beastlord. Wanted to get the Sonic wolves winning again cuz they finally fixed the war bug. Pretty easy with my pet killing every thing in sight untill I got chain quicksanded when i was far away. pet wouldn't attack so i guess he got quicksanded aswell but I kept telling him to attack to interupt the spells. He gets there and starts kicking this guys *** even when the others are joining in. Basically all of this zone is an under con so thier hitting my pet pretty hard when the others join in so I throw in a pet heal. Almost a CH nice!!!!! Quicksand and the root they gave me finally wares off and i join the battle basically tanking for my pet and adding in nice blows myself. The cheif would have died sooner had I controled my pet better though, he kept changing targets. But this guy falls and I kill everything helping him and begin to loot. My pets not so great on life anymore about 35% and someone trys to cast a spell on me but I didn't notice and my pet runs off to kill him. I guess since I was looting (you know how it is when you sit or loot) and I guess everything left from the other 2 tents agro'd on my pet and killed in to time flat cuz the buffs on him wore off. So I loot and scoot but my SoW fades (GREAT time for that to happen) and once again I'm rooted then ganged buy I don't know maybe 10 grimmling while im at 40% life. So I accept my death and come back to kill then all again, this time with more strategy Bwah ha ha ha ha run suckers run. But the Cheiften dropped 2 large blocks of Acrylia which I gladly looted. Revenge is great exspecially if their the ones that started it. Stupid quicksand lol.

"Chieftan is an easy kill."
"I camp him all the time. I am 52 Pathfinder."

Um, according to the listing here, the Chieftan is level 33.

Are you trying to brag? Or are you surprised that a mob 19 levels lower than you is easy to kill?

I wish people would stop with this kind of crap. I could have guessed that he'd be easy at 52.
Time
# Sep 09 2002 at 2:05 AM Rating: Decent
He's not a 20min spawn. He might of been, but isn't now. I timed him all day wtih my UI's timer today while i was killing his buddies nearby for some simple Acrylia. 8mins abot is what he was timeing for me.
What I've learned about him
# Jul 28 2002 at 4:07 PM Rating: Excellent
First off the chieftain is a 12 minute spawn. Second, he never moves making him lots of fun to camp unlike the rest of his friends who run like mad for the healers if given a chance. Thrid, a 44 cleric and a 48 warrior can hold the camp without any problems at all. Forth, you get a great view of the battle between the grimling defenders, the sonic wolves, and the owlbears. (Be warned the grimiling defenders will summon you if you get too close.) After killing him 23 times we got: 2 staves of living sands, 1 ceremonial smudging stick, 1 ornate shell pestle, 1 sm brick of acrylia, 5 sm pieces of acrylia, 1 block of acrylia, and 2 large bricks of acrylia. Also got a bunch of runes as he drops one almost every single time.

#Anonymous, Posted: Jun 25 2002 at 9:41 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Just a few cp pieces of info from a 45 cleric .....after roaming around this area with my alt i stumbled upon this camp. The next day at work i began researching area to see if it would benefit me in any way. I noticed decent range item better then the i have now so i figured i would make the trip with my main. The 2 body guards in front of shack or tent were green and had around 1150 hp the spiritualists about the same. However the chief in my opinion is not 33 lol. He is very weak offensively however resisited dam my normal blast is 501 and and the 5 i got off him him totalled 678. This brought him close to half life. Then he began healing himself and after i rooted both spiritalists he was at full hp. I was at 30 then the other body gaurd attacked. Killed him and with 20 mana left i gated knowing i couldnt kill him. He conned blue to me as well. I will be back to try again and i will be sucessful i have a new plan already and will post again. Also most of these posts are quite accurate in regards to time spawns and such.
so that grimling staff is NO good to my Druid?
# Jun 14 2002 at 11:03 PM Rating: Default
Yea.. My druid picked up one of those Grimling Staffs... I guess it's no good for him? especially since it's no drop

oh well.. I'll keep it in the bank till I know for sure.

MY warrior was killing the chief when he hit 23. BUT.. with my other acct.. my 40 druid was backing him up :)

My friend warned me that the Chieftan can't be pulled. I tried hitting him with stun spells, blindness, and nothing - he just stood there! I was laughing at this, but it got even funnier when our wizard starting shooting bolts at him and the chieftain still stood there. We considered bolting him to death but he does have some healers nearby. Later I went up to him, he took a few swings at me and I pulled one of his healers and ran off, yet he still didn't move. In over half a dozen rounds, I never saw him lift a foot once. I'm thinking this guy must be standing in Crazy Glue.

In addition to being unable to walk, the chieftan has an unusual "proc" to his attack (Quicksand or Sinking Sand methinks). This proc works like a strong snare, taking my J-Boots down to a slow walking speed. The effect is short in duration however.

Grimling Chieftian Staff???

Found this off the chieftian the other day. Looks like a dark wood with a yellow skull head and is Lore/No Drop.
Does anyone know what this might be for?

This is for one of the next quests after you finish the Vah Shir wolfbane weapon. This is for the Vah Shir cloak upgrade, but you must first complete the weapon quest to get to this quest. There is this and a piece from each one of the other factions (sonic wolf/owlbear) that you need.
Can a 49 rogue hold camp?

Could a 49 Rogue jold camp. Decent hp and ac - 850ac+ 1500hp or so. Have healing BP, with 90hp a tic. (casting time)
RE: Can a 49 rogue hold camp?
# Aug 27 2002 at 6:55 AM Rating: Decent
Yes, a 49 rogue should be able to handle the camp. I can take whole camp easy at 43(paladin) and have no trouble...with a 90hp heal bp that should be enough to heal the weak dmg these guys dish out... Ok,bye

I see no reason why a 49 rouge couldn't hold it. I was holding it fine with my 48 warrior and his bandages. The only problem for me was lag and when the little buggers ran to the healers.

I'm a 36 druid and this guy is an impossible kill for me, his resists must be through the roof, harmonied at fm, started nuking and went oom before he had lost a quarter of his HP. Will go back with C3 once I can get it and try then, but for any casters looking to camp this guy, I would bring an enchanter with you to debuff because this guy is ridiculous

i think the shammy type grimlings may buff his resists as well , i was getting a lot of partial / full resists so i decided to nullify magic him and hit for full more often after that, of course this may bave been a placebo effect as well

Spawn time
# Apr 23 2002 at 12:13 PM Rating: Good
Have been camping him the past 2 days, spawn time has been 12 minutes exactly. Never camped him before so I dont know if if was EVER 20, or 19.5 minutes like I've read here, but as of 4/23/02 it is 12 minutes. Camped him 6 hours yesterday, got one of each of his good drops, and tons of the other garbage. As suggested in the forum I nuked the healer outside the tent, then sat under the tent until i was hit by the one inside, and killed it. didn't bother with the bodyguards as they dont do jack if you nuke the chieftain to death from behind the tent. Harmonied the guards after chief went down, and looted.
Hum...
# Apr 13 2002 at 11:15 PM Rating: Decent
I'm a 31 druid doing this guy right now (solo). I harmonied him and started nuking away with Combumst...bad idea. This dude is extremely resistant! Then, a spiritalist started healing him..it was pretty much over. I retreated and saved my hide with about 40hp left. I have 200 wisdom on the dot, and about +350 mana from items (+mana attribute), pretty well twinked. I started with 60m since I nuked his body gaurds to death where they stood before causing any issues. Then I tried the same with him, as I've already said, bad idea. I'm remeding to try again. This time, I'm harmonying the cheif, DoTing him with Creeping Crud (even though he resisted it once last time) and firing away with the level 19 nuke Careless Lighting rather than the level 29 Combust. Carelesss Lighting is generally harder to resist and started working pretty well toward the end when I tried it. Nice thing about tons of mana? No meding for a while. Bad thing about tons of mana? Meding forever when OOM. Well, going to med to full (so God help me) and try him again. The spiritalists didn't heal until haronmy wore off last time. He cons yellow and has lots of help, so you'll, once you read this, I'll most likely have won...or lost...this battle. I'll try to remember to post and RE on how it went!

Til then, "me so cute and huggable =)"

# Apr 13 2002 at 11:16 PM Rating: Decent
O, yeah, me again...haven't attacked yet, just one more note...mr high and mighty doesn't leave his throne, atleast he stood there for me. He's open to nuking and free game!
RE: Hum...
# May 15 2002 at 7:02 AM Rating: Decent
no matter what you try he wont leave the top of that ladder. Which is good and bad for a warrior soloing him.
Guess I was just lucky?
# Apr 08 2002 at 11:54 AM Rating: Default
Well again, I began to camp him with 2 guildies (warriors, 54, 57) to get some items for me and there alts, well we killed him a few times and then he dropped smuding stick, lv57 got it. Next he dorpps the shell, I got it. Next he dropped sand staff! 57 won again, sadly next few kills were just runes etc, then I had to go. 2 warriors were gonna stay to get me other items etc, well, guess it was just luck to get 3 items in a row, huh?
Camping this mofo!
# Apr 08 2002 at 3:25 AM Rating: Decent
I camped this guy with 2 other guildies today for about 6 hrs. 1st we got enough runes to supply the Luclin spell research community for a lifetime. 2nd We did however get some good stuff. Out of 6 hrs camping time we got 3 Ornate Shell Pestles, 1 Ceremonial Smudge Stick, and 1 Skull Shaped Sacrificial Hammer. I got the ceremonial smudge stick and one of the pestles. LUCKY ME! WOOT! So basicly unless you are prepared to camp this guy for a very LONG time dont count on getting any of the good stuff.

On test, was helping a GM with a group with the war bc it was bugged. we took down chief ALOT, he only dropped sumdinging stick once, I got it. Im beliving his drops have been nerfed to like ULTRA RARE lol
Drops
# Apr 02 2002 at 1:41 PM Rating: Decent
Just camped him for 10 spawns..can you say boring?
On 6 got the skull hammer and on 9 got the bowl.
Not so great for over 3 hours camping.

IMO the rate of drop on these items doesnt warrant the amout of time needed to obtain them.

Are you guys crazy or just bad players?
# Mar 30 2002 at 6:25 AM Rating: Decent
I am not a twinked paladin. I have a BABS, mixed Ro and FP armor on my 36 HiE pally. I show up where this guy is and he's up with his entourage. I soothed them, pulled one at a time, leaving a min or two separation between kills (ya know, so when they repop I get some breathing/med time) and killed the chieftan last. I killed the chief and lost only 50% health.

I'm level 36...not level 40. What gives? Are you guys who are saying that it takes L40 kill this guy using Rusty Rapiers on him or something?

Hell, to fix his root spell just carry a few pumice stones around with you and you're cured.
RE: Are you guys crazy or just bad players?
# Mar 31 2002 at 12:50 PM Rating: Default
He's a warrior what do you expect. Most warriors can't take down most mobs on their own unless they are on the low end of the con chart. Nothing against warriors but that's just the truth. As it has been stated by many others before me warriors aren't a soloing class mainly because they can't heal which makes any battle with adds or a hard hitting mob very tough. I give all you warriors props for picking a class that is very much needed but also very dependent on others.
RE: Are you guys crazy or just bad players?
# Jul 31 2002 at 2:38 AM Rating: Default
My slightly twinked 29 Iksar Warrior can easily kill blues and whites, even yellows. he has no regen items on him. I guess it is Character Skill/Player Skill that determines the outcomes of the battles.
