Sahagin

Introduction

An especially aloof race of scaly monsters with a great fondness for the sea.

These amphibious beastmen reside mainly on the western coastline of the island of Elshimo. They spend the majority of their time practicing primitive fishing techniques to provide an ample supply of shellfish for their survival. Other than to protect their territory, the Sahagin rarely interact with other races. Before the Great War, they adamantly refused invitations by the Shadow Lord to join the beastmen armies--until he convinced them that the steamships of Bastok would eventually destroy their environment. During the war, the Sahagin used their sea maneuvering abilities to attack even the strongest ships in the allied fleet, and were feared by all seafaring soldiers. After the flames of battle had been extinguished, the Sahagin cut off all ties to the other beastmen and returned to their secluded way of life. Apart from limited trading with Norg--they often trade shellfish for metal trinkets salvaged by the pirates--the Sahagin have little contact with the outside world.

Finally, many of the Sahagin worship the elements, and have made deities out of sea serpents and oddly shaped stones within their grotto. However, within their ranks are some who follow the teachings of the Goddess Altana.

Sahagin Classes

Freshwater Class Sahagin have small cloth sheathes attached to just their hips and arms to hold weapons while they go diving. Anything more would be obtrusive and make it too difficult to swim. This class of Sahagin descends from a line that lived in fresh waters far away, which gives their body its earthen color tone. Their ancestors are also known to have had significant contact with humans and there are still many Sahagin of this class who specialize in magic.

Seawater Class Blue-colored Sahagin have lived on beaches and in oceans for generations. They have developed excellent close-combat skills from battling giant monsters of the sea. Given enough time though, Sahagin can become accustomed to either freshwater or seawater, making the difference in habitats between the classes and minute one.

Sahagin and Pirates

The Sahagin mainly dwell within the Sea Serpent Grotto, which is also shared with Norg, the pirate stronghold. Naturally, the reclusive Sahagin detest contact with humans. Still, to make up for their lack of metallurgy skills, they often trade seafood and barter exclusively with the pirates for metallic goods and weapons. Sahagin and the pirates of Norg try to keep contact between the two camps minimal. Still, there is a mutual trust between them that they will defend against any invasion from the mainland. In these ways, they have a strange symbiotic relationship.

Special Submariner Squad

Amphibian Assault This group was once a special force of Sahagin mercenaries who were outcasts, scorned by their tribe. Their great battle skill on both land and sea earned them quite a reputation though, and they found a multitude of employment opportunities in various countries.
