Hope Torque?

This also drops Hope Torque. +5 Agi, +7 Katana, +7 Archery skill. I don't see how people killed this without it doing Plasma Charge -> insta-cast spells because when we do it, it does it at least 5-6 times through the course of the fight. When it does, shadowbind it and run away/kite it as best you can for about a minute total until the insta-cast spell duration goes away. Pretty straightfoward fight if you have enough tanks (3-4) and try to limit it's tp so it can't use Plasma Charge too often. DoT's + SMN BP's are awesome on this fight.

I know the posts were old, but every time it uses plasma charge it gains access to instant cast Burst II and Thundaga III, it just doesn't use plasma charge very often. Seems to favor aerial collision the most, which is annoying because of the defense down effect needing to be erased every 10-20 seconds :( So the difficulty of the fight is really just based on whether he chooses to use plasma charge or not - even if he does, just cure bomb the tank til he stops casting again and you should be fine.

So, we fought Hope for the third time today. The previous two times it was a joke (as we had been told to expect) and we killed it easily. We never saw it cast a spell.

*This* time, it did ShockII and ThundagaIII in the first five seconds (no cast time, so no stun chance), instantly killing our first tank. It then ran around pulping us for the next 30 minutes, until we had a near wipe at 12% and just let it regen to full while we recovered. Then, when we were ready and all at 100% again (including the mob), we attacked again, and this time it died easily without casting a spell, just as it had our previous two fights.

So, we were confused. Anyone else experience this? We did notice that when it changes to "nasty instant spell mode" it always put up the traditional Phaubo shock spikes, but even after dispelling them it remaining in spell mode for awhile, so the spikes are a symptom and not a cause.

We are also 0/3 on any optional drops, getting only the 100% drop staff three times.

Any comments, either on its difficulty or drop rate?

^^ He means Burst II, not shock II. Burst II is instant cast (Along with thunderaga III) and does around 3k damage. Dunno why you see the mode switch, sometimes they just get spammy, either spells or aerial collision. Long and the short, you win some, you lose some. Haven't lost to him for a while now, I think only our first or 2nd time...

I've fought this a few times with my Sea LS and we've seen the same thing. It only went into insane spell mode once when we faught it (We've fought it 4 times) I've got no clue why it does this, but usually when it did that I was too busy with staying alive to ask "Hey, now why did it do that?" :P

This is one of 7 of the new Sea Gods, just like the 5 living up in sky (kirin, byakko, seiryu, suzaku & genbu) there are 7 all together living in Sea, each a different race.

Maybe you should list the real "new kirin" ....

Absolute Virtue

Does this make him look like a teeny tiny mouse now? baby mouse ? since JoL makes him look like a "puddy tat?"

Phuabo

indeed it is a Phuabo, and a beefed up crazy *** Phuabo with FC Burst II / Thundaga III. This one is part of the tier 2 Jailers along with Justice / Prudence, and i think based on difficulty it goes: Prudence > Hope > Justice from hardest to weakest.

Prudence = Hpemde
Justice = Xzomit

It's a Phuabo type based on screenshots posted on Killing Ifrit and elsewhere.

Note to Administrators: KI has a thread in the Missions and Quest forum called The Mystery of Lumoria (its stickied). There is a lot of screenshots in there which you could probably ask permission from the posters who posted them and there's a lot of information on all Jailers and other Sea NMs' behavior, spells, drops, etc.
