Opo-Opo crown + panamas vs Goliard Chapeau + tav. tacos def 20 mp+40 hp+40 dex +4 vit + 6 agi+3 CHR+ 9 enmity-4 mpr+3 hpr+3 def+25% vs MP+50 hp+50 str-2 dex+1 vit+1 agi-2 int+2 mnd+2 chr+7 hmmm id say opo opo crown fails
but then again that specific piece isnt that easy to obtain there are many head gears that if you use tacos will be better for brd then opo opo crown, this is prolly the best of them tho but there are many others
edit: although this isnt the best piece of gear i do want it for my alchemy mule just need to get him to 65 i also want the title for him oh ya reason for this is hes a galka with the name opoopoking he is getting ver upset people are walking around with his crown
Wow, looking at some posts here i guess i really got lucky with it.
I bought all item from AH, cept for Toad wich i solo'ed as SMN. Went to get Skull...drops on first Wyvern(Thanks Yokya(TH4!) and Butta for helping).
Then went to get the Fish bones, this one took me 30mins to get. Tonberries didnt give any problems as SMN.
Finally, went to get the Salt. SMN is really awesome for this one, seeing as you can just sic carby at a worm and move over to a safe spot just taking some time to ressumon it. The worm will stay but and cant do anything to harm you(no aggro from ants either^^). Dropped after 5th worm.
Overall, took me around 3hrs(mostly because of moving around) to get all my items and 2 days to buy everything off AH.
yeeehaw finally got to be the king!! took me long enough to complete this quest but I gotta say, as bard - it was totally worth the wait! The Ancient salt and Wyvern skull took some time to drop, skull took about 2 hrs maybe and the salt about 3 hrs with TH2 so overall maybe not too bad.
Special thanks to Asakura who helped me get all of my items, took days straight of his time, and also thanks to Nixx and Yllia who helped out with the salt!
Don't give up during this quest it's totally worth the wait! =D
what if you have the crown, wear the necklace, eat the pamamas, and use primate staff... what would happen? i don't have the crown but i have everything else, can anyone test this?

You MUST be level 8 windy fame to complete the two prereq quests.
I was level 6 fame when I collected the 10 items, and could not get Gullibles Travels. I went to windy and raised to lv7 fame. He will then give you Gullibles Travels. He would not give out Even More however. I zoned, and waited a game day and no luck. I went back to windy, raised fame to Lv8, and only then was I able to get the second quest, and then the crown quest.
So I'm a Taru, and while +MP is nice and all, +HP is something i like a lot more (just a personal taste thing). So i got myself an intruder's Earring for some nice 40MP to 40HP conversion, only to find that i didnt like LOSING some base MP for my HP. So regrettably i put away my earring for a while, until inspiration strikes!
Wear this crown along with Intruder earring, and you get a whopping +90 hp with +10 MP to spare! Very delicious! Not to mention the other nice stats of the earring which further add to the +1 stats present on this crown.
Can anyone supply a link, for a list of items that have hidden effects, such as the opo-opo crown, because i have a rare drop off of Eba(Fomor Tunic) a NM in Phomenia aquaducts, and it has some good and bad points to it, and im thinking, that since its such a hard NM to kill, and wait for the 24 hr pop, that there very well could be a hidden effect.
As sought after as this item is, it's status effects are only so-so. The hidden effects are nice though. Well, at least if you just aren't after +CHR. A total of +7 CHR isn't as good as say a Noble's Ribbon and eating Tuna Sushi. Which turns out to be +8. Sadly, my knowledge of foods is a bit minimal, so there may be even better foods for +CHR. Point is, the hidden effect is really only useful for more mp and hp after you do the math.
Well, if you aren't having accuracy problems where you need sushi, it will save you a ton of money since Pamamas from the Kazham port NPC is like 800-900 gil a stack where Tuni Sushi is...well you know it's not "cheap" anyway. +1 STR, DEX, and AGI is nice to have too, but seems a lot of people ignore those bonuses when talking about this item.
Now as for a BRD perspective, don't know why any BRD wouldn't want this headpiece since I don't think they have any reason to be eating sushi and could benefit a lot from +50 MP.

I dont often eat sushi but i sure like my tacos even if they are expencive. They keep me ALIVE. Dead brd isnt much help to anyone.
Not saying this isnt a very nice peice of gear when combined with panama's, but i prefer a different food and gear setup (end up with little more mp, little less hp/chr, a decent amount of vit+ and alot more def plus a few other + stat bonuses compaired to the panama/crown setup).
Also, some brds change headgear by song but would restricted by the food requirments for this item.
Only item I had been waiting for, for the past 3 months, was the wyvern skull. So last night a group of people from my ls decided to help with this after we got a few gold keys for ls members. The crown looks so cool on an elvaan lol, had to switch to my DRG to try it on, only 2.5k tnl with BST then I can wear it full time. The stats with Pamamas makes it pretty insane too, definately a worthwhile piece of gear for BST.
Basically, this Crown has a hidden effect which leaves it much to be desired upon. Eating a Panama while wearing this crown gives you +14 CHR, +50 HP & +50 MP. Since the crown itself has a -7 CHR, the final stats of the crown would thus be +7 CHR, +50 HP & +50 MP.
I have a question: Can you put the crown on, eat the pamama, then take the crown off to get the full +14 Chr?
Actually it says "Eating a Pamama while wearing this crown", which could mean you eat it while wearing the crown, and then can take the crown off. The quote underlined only said it was important to be wearing the crown while eating the pamama, nothing about leaving the crown on while the food effect is on to continue to get the effect.
I was curious too, so I finally tried out all the combinations. Anytime you have both the Pamama effect AND the Crown on, you get the hidden bonus. So...
If I Eat the Pamama and then take off the crown, do I still get the bonus? No. But, If I put the crown back on again, does the Bonus come back? Yes. What If I eat the Pamama first and then put the crown on? Do I get the effect? Yes.
I finally got my Crown last night! The last item I needed was the Wyvern Skull - Can you say pain in the ***? I know ya can :D
We started shouting in Jeuno and about an hour later we had 5 people (Me and Segg-BLM75 were the starting party). It turned out we needed 3 skulls in total, which was cool, it meant fighting tonnes of Dragons!!! Weeeeeeeeee! Ok so we set off with BLM75, WHM75, RNG75, SAM69 and me (SMN65 but it was for my BRD60 ^^). We tele out to the jungle and head up to the east entrance of Ifrits Cauldron. We walk into the Cauldron and its raining which was lucky cause that means weaker bombs. 2 hours later (Yes thats right, 2 hours) we finally all arrive at the Wyverns!!! Minus Midas the SAM69 who got killed near the Ash Dragon and as we went back to raise him he DC'ed (Im so sorry dude, we did try). Anyways after we arrived at the Camp, there was a 75BST just playin around so i asked if he could help, he was more than happy to oblige (Thanks Speirs ^^) and we began. About 10 Wyvern later one skull dropped, I lotted but got 149 (cry) so obviously lost. We killed a few more then I had to AFK for dinner. Was gone about 5-10 mins and when I got back 2 more had dropped and one was just sitting there waiting for me to lot!!! ^^ I was so happy. The Opo-Opo Crown was finally mine. :D Thanks to Segg (Most Awesome BLM I have ever seen, Supernova (One of the Quirkiest but coolest WHM ever) and so sorry dude but I forget the RNG name but he was awesome too! Oh and thanks to the BST75 Speirs who really worked his *** off for me :D Thanks all, your all a credit to Seraph.
Now some advice for the wary, Vouivre popped about half an hour in so we all got a bit scared. We wanted to fight him but with no real tank we didnt risk it. However this guy DOES NOT AGGRO! Not to sight, not to smell, not to sound. We ran in circles around him many times and he didnt even raise an eyebrow, he must have known we were badass :D Anyways, he is a ***** apparantley and with a good tank can be taken down no bother.
Oh and a THF/NIN75 turned up near the end to help with the drop rate, but forget his name too, sorry ; ;
Ok Ancient Salt - Too Weak - Far too easy for words - Got it from first drop (Thanks Segg)
Lucky Egg - Even Match - Killed about 10 crawlers for 2 eggs (Thanks Segg :D)
Giant Fish Bones - Very Tough - Had to re visit this one after an unsuccesful first round - I did pop an NM from a picture frame by mistake though lol - A NIN/RDM jumped in to help with that bugger. We returned on Full Moon and got the Fish Bones after about 5 kills.
All the other items were bought from AH. Mithran Fishing Rod will be the big pain in the posterior for those though.
Now I am King of the Opo-Opo and ruler of the Jungle! /bow to me if you see me in game :D
Got my Ancient Salt last night on the first kill and had to log out. Will turn in salt and Lucky Egg tonight and the crown will finally be mine......with alot of help from various friends and LS members along the way.
I finally completed this quest. With a little help from several friends ^^.
I actually farmed for the ten of coins and actually brought a normal mithran rod and broke it at west ronf. lake. There was none at AH. I spent hours trying to break that damn rod in selbina ship and asked people around.
The giant fish bones took awhile, I joined a ZM 4 party to help me out but the drop rate stunk, we had a thief 2 also. Watch out for throat stab and links><.
Wyvern skull took me an hour to get and several of my friends in the pt died from bombs self-destruction. Make sure mages keep reraise on or stand far back from the AOE because its nasty! And there was an NM wyvern there too.
Lucky egg I got from pting with my bard.
Ancient salt took awhile since there was only 4 spawns and one of them is surrounded with other mobs that we dont want. Keep them silence or bring a high lvl thief/nin to kill them. They do quake and stonega III, its not pretty but they were easier then the tonberrys.
I was so happy to get my crown and I did the rng sub trick, good idea =D.
Does anyone know it this crown can be retrieved again if dropped? While cleaning out my mog house and not paying attention, I dumped it. I heard a rumor that it is possible to get another by talking to another NPC. :/ Sorta along the lines of the NPC that returns AF if you tossed it (for a price)... once again I've only heard about that but never had to use it. If anyone has any advice, it'd be much appreciated. Or am I S.O.L.? Thanks
There is a elvann NPC at one of the shops in Lower Jeuno (I dont remember the exact location, sorry). He says he will let you redo quests after dropping all the items you would get from the quest, although I can't say for sure that he'll let you redo this quest. The only quests he offers me to be able to redo are my AF quests, but its worth a try.^^
That Mithra would be me. ^^ It's a Narasimha's Vest. I'm actually a RDM main (the gloves in the pic should give me away) but I wanted to get the crown for when I got my Bard high enough to wear it. ^_^
I recently rewrote Fedex's Guide to the Opo-Opo crown and made it to include instructions on every item and not just the Rare/EX items. You can find it here
Got my crown today (yay!) and I realized there are multiple kinds of pamamas. Has anyone tested the effect of wild pamamas with the crown (as opposed to the regular ones). They're probably nothing, but you never know...
just a short info when you trade the last item, Lucky Egg:
the monkey is behind a house, you have to wait until he moves towards you and then trade fast. if you get the message "you cannot obtain the bunch of pamamas. try sorting your inventory and trade again" then make sure to get 4 free slots in your inventory, as you will receive 3x 1 pamama and the crown :)
Guide to getting YOUR Opo-opo Crown Just about 24 hours ago, I received my very own Opo-opo Crown. From my own knowledge, I realised that many people were curious about this extremely attractive headwear. Many couldn't understand what was so good about this Crown which actually does -7 CHR and YET, its said to probably 1 of the best Bard headwear. Here's why.
•Introduction to the Crown• Basically, this Crown has a hidden effect which leaves it much to be desired upon. Eating a Panama while wearing this crown gives you +14 CHR, +50 HP & +50 MP. Since the crown itself has a -7 CHR, the final stats of the crown would thus be +7 CHR, +50 HP & +50 MP. Nice huh? To obtain this crown, a total of 3 Quests will have to be completed, of which the final quest: The Opo-Opo and I, will yield your Opo-opo Crown. Although this is mostly a Bard item, most people just can't resist the look of it.
•Quest 1: Gullible's Travels• This is the first quest you will have to complete, and requires Rank 6 Windurst Fame. In this quest, Magriffon (I-7) would tell you in a cutscene that in order to save a bunch of Opo-opos, he bought food for them etc, and now he's broke, and needs gil. The amount of gil he would ask from you VARIES, but with my Rank 6 Windurst Fame, I was asked for 10,000gil. After finishing this quest, zone into Yuhtunga Jungle and come back to Magriffon for Quest 2.
•Quest 2: Even More Gullible's Travels• Thie is the second quest you will have to complete, and requires Rank 7 Windurst Fame. If you possess Rank 7 Fame, completing the entire 3 quests will be possible. So remember the magic number, 7. In this quest, Magriffon will ask for more gil, and just trade to him the amount of gil he asks for. He would then give you a map and you would have to visit 3 spots in Yuhtanga Jungle, H-10,I-12 and F-7, when you find Blue Rafflesia flowers. Examining to each of the flowers give you a bottle of nectar, and when you've examined the 3rd flower, you will find yourself dizzy, and when you talk to Magriffon again, you will find yourself completing this quest.
•Quest 3: The Opo-Opo and I• Finally. Enough of crap. Now we're into the final and last quest. In this section, I will cover with you how I went about to get my RARE/EX items for this quest. In this particular quest, which is activated speaking to Lulupp the Opo-opo (found near the Airship Dock), you need to trade 10 different items to different Opo-opos in a PARTICULAR AND SPECIFIC order.
The 10 items and their corresponding Opo-opos are: 1. Lulupp - Bkn. Mithran Rod (Port Windurst/Fish.Guild) 2. Kukupp - Workbench (Woodworking/Amateur) 3. Mumupp - Ten of Coins (Outer Horutoto Ruins Mob:Ten of Coins) 4. Roropp - Sands of Silence (Castle Zvahl Baileys Mob:Demon Magistrate, Demon Chancellor) 5. Popopp - Wandering Bulb (FeiYin Mob:Utukku) 6. Bubupp - Giant Fish Bones (Temple of Uggalepih Mob:Tonberry Stalker) 7. Tatapp - Blackened Toad (Sea Serpent Grotto Mob:Brook Sahagin) 8. Kakapp - Wyvern Skull (Ifrits Cauldron Mob:Hurricane Wyvern) 9. Lalapp - Ancient Salt (Quicksand Caves Mob:Sand Digger) 10. Nenepp - Lucky Egg (The Boyahda Tree Mob:Knight Crawler)
To make finding these Opo-opos ALOT ALOT ALOT easier... I STRONGLY SUGGEST that you sub RNG or BST for Wide Scan =D V.good trick since some of the Opos Opos run all around Kazham like nobody's business.
Out of these 10 items, there are 4 items which are RARE/EX, which means you cannot buy them from the Auction House, and you would have to hunt them. The 4 items are - Wyvern Skull, Ancient Salt, Lucky Egg and Giant Fish Bones. I personally bought the other 6 items from the Auction House because I did not want to go through all the trouble hunting for them.
•Obtaining the 4 RARE/EX Items• This section is a pure pain, as it can be easy if you have help, or if you don't you will just have to wait till you find help for them. Here's how I got them.
Wyvern Skull: This one has a very very high drop rate, and is dropped by Hurricane Wyverns in Ifrit's Cauldron. ****. Yes, ****. Ifrit's Cauldron isn't you're regular playground where you can walk around without aggro. Practically everybody will get aggro-ed in side, even level 75s, as the Mobs found in the area are mostly Level 70-75. Casting inside is very dangerous, because of the many Bombs you can find inside, which aggro to magic. I highly reccommend you bring your Silent Oils and Prism Powders for this one. Safety > Convenience. Besides Sneak Oils and Prism Powders, you will also need Ice Clusters to get past Flame Sprouts which you will find along the way. Near the Flame Sprouts are usually Bombs so please be careful about casting. To get to the spot where Hurricane Wyverns spawn and are found, follow this map and travel to D. http://www.koolaid-ffxi.org/linkshell/space/Ifrit+Cauldron/Ifrit-1.gif When you finally reach D, go straight and you will see a huge area where you see your Hurricane Wyverns. There will be Lizards around but they do not aggro, so you can get past them safely. The spot where they are actually found can be seen on this 2nd map of Ifrit's Cauldron. http://www.koolaid-ffxi.org/linkshell/space/Ifrit+Cauldron/Ifrit-2.gif As you can see, coming out of D leads you to this big square area on the map, and that's where you can find the Wyverns. I personally did this with a full party of level 65s and 75s, assortment. Tank was 75 PLD, and the breath attacks of the Wyverns CAN hurt even a 75 PLD alot. There is a nice cosy spot at the south of the square area where you can camp there. The Wyverns don't do anything much harmful, except for an occasional Dispel-ga, which isn't very threatening. How long did I spend to get my skull? Fast. On my first kill, I got a first skull drop. In all, we had about 3 Wyvern Skulls in 15 mins. It was like a 99% drop rate. Very nice.
Lucky Egg: I personally hope you're about level 53-55 when you're reading this, because it helps alot in obtaining the Lucky Egg. If you are, try your very best to level in Boyahda Tree off Robber Crabs and Knight Crawlers. Knight Crawlers drop Lucky Eggs, but drop rate isn't very good. In about 5 hours of partying, we had 2 Lucky Eggs. It is easily doable with a Level 60 Party.
Giant Fish Bones: This one can suck too, but drop rate is good and decent. Personally, I went to do this as a 60 Bard, along with a 70 DRK, 70 RDM as well as a 75 MNK. Was easy, but you do need a specific healer for this, because the Tonberry Stalkers which drop the Giant Fish Bones have this ability called Throat Stab which can hurt alot. I really mean alot, like practically 80% of a 75 MNK's HP, thats ALOT... Personally, this took me about 1 hour, and you can find Tonberry Stalkers near the zone of Temple of Uggalepih. Just move around the area and you should see them all around. Killing Tonberry Cutters gives you an item which is required for ZM Mission 4, so this is like killing 2 birds with 1 stone.
Ancient Salt: These are dropped by Sand Diggers in QuickSand Caves, and you have to enter QuickSand Caves from the bottom left hand corner of Western Altepa Map. Inside the Quicksand Caves, there are several pressure plates, and you would need your party members of enough weight to stand on them so that the doors in front of those plates would open. The drop rate for Ancient Salt can be as good as 15 mins per salt, OR as bad as 7 hours per salt. It all depends on your luck. The time consuming part of this would be the lack of Sand Diggers. You would have to wait for them to spawn, and there are only about 4-5 Spawns in the room which you kill them. Bring a full party of level 65-70 would do good, and make sure you have a high level WHM who can Silence the Sand Digger, cause their spells are a real bothersome.
Great Guide.. everything was easy... I didn't buy anything except fishing rod.. and the blackend toad... Big Fish Bones Soloed as 70 thief got 2 big fish bones in probably 8 kills max.. The Ten of Coins Card is the biggest pain probably 6 -7 sraight hours of camping to get on card.. on Ten of Batons card.. and One Ten of Swords card Ifrit cauldron For Wyvern skull was triod with 70 thief 70 ninja and 70 whm.. didnt really need the whm.. though you need to be careful cause the big boy Wyvern will silence you torwar the end.. Really easy fight though.. it was VT- IT to me and Tough to the 75 ninja.. 80 something exp a kill lol.. dropped after two kills.. The worm isnt bad I Duoed with as 70 thief with a 75 thief.. i let him tank.. follow the directions as the guide says.. bring HP drain bolts if your athief or and or a WHm.. watch out for STonega III.. There are only 4 worms that spawn and they spawn in that area. There are two scorpions also. and a warrior ant. and a pld ant.. jut take your time and clear room... be careful and remember zone is near buy so don't forget u can run Got Opo Opo Crown Jan 12, 07 really fun even though i'm gonna use it for smn for MP and just for looks lol, I'm THE KING!!!
Both of Gullible's Travels and Opo Opo and I quests can be obtained with rank 6. I was able to flag them as Sandy Rank 6 and I have a feeling I may have been able to flag them earlier if I took the time to talk to everyone sooner.
Yeah WHMs do have a lot of MND, however RDMs aren't exactly slouchers in that category.
Good RDMs have a bunch of +INT and +MND gear on them macroed into the various primary spells... this combined with an Enfeebling Magic skill FAR higher than the WHM (at lev 65, RDM's enfeebling skill cap is 26 levels higher than WHM.. that's a LOT) has means that the RDM has a better chance of the spell sticking.
I was just curious why he specifically mentioned WHM for silencing the mob when RDM is the best followed by WHM and BLM... That seems non sequitur to me so I was wondering if there was some other rationale for bringing a WHM that he forgot to mention like "you WILL need Erase here!"... :P ^^
