Entry 3: The Rest of Borean Tundra

I promised you a map of the zone yesterday. Here it is!

For those keeping score at home, that's almost double the points of interest of Hellfire Peninsula. It's a big, involved zone. The achievement for questing in it requires you to complete 130 quests. (Ironically, it's called "Nothing Boring About Borean".)

So let's introduce some more players to the zone...

Northeast of the DEHTA encampment is Coldrock Quarry. You'll find a few Tuskarr outside the quarry looking for you to free their people from enslavement by some folks that appear to be allied with the blue dragonflight. Why the blues would do this is beyond me, but I think these are just their associates.

One of the DEHTA quests, following the removal of some mammoth traps, asks you to find a home for a mammoth calf that will probably starve to death. Aww, can I keep him?

Once you deliver the calf to the head mammoth, you are actually asked to mount a mammoth (!) to take down the guy trapping all of these mammoths.

Another quirky place involving DEHTA is Winterfin Village. One of their druids disguised themselves as a murloc to try to fit in with their people and learn about their ways...and they made him king! Well, king of a small offshoot of the remaining tribe. Apparently most of the murlocs have been infected by magical energies, or something. He wants you to stamp out the source of that corruption.

The primary Alliance base in the north is Fizzcrank Airstrip, pictured below. The Horde's energies are split between two smaller bases, but the Alliance just have one in the middle. It's probably needless to say, but this is a gnome base. The surrounding areas are filled with machines and gnomes that have been "converted" into robots. I won't spoil the storyline on that one for you.

The Scourge don't have a huge presence in Borean Tundra, but they do have some bases of operations. Talramas is a crashed necropolis not far from Fizzcrank. Further east is The Temple City of En'kilah, (as seen below,) which is filled to the brim with Scourge. One quest asks you to kill the bosses of the three respective ziggurats.

Remember how I said the Horde have two different bases? Yeah, this is something you probably don't want to do as an Alliance member:

That's Taunka'le Village, one of the Horde towns. The Taunka are a race of buffalo people (think tatanka from Dancing With Wolves) that apparently get along real well with the Tauren. Imagine that. Moo.

The Tuskarr, the neutral walrus people, also have a village in the northeast along the coastline called Unu'pe Village. It serves at the flight point that connects to the next zone over, and also has a boat ride to take you immediately to the zone's flight point.

And finally some more random shots. Tomorrow will be the introduction of that section of the zone in the west, Coldarra, and more importantly, the instance inside it.

  • Fizzcrank airstrip

  • Borrowing a Death Knight's horse

  • Successful exploration of the zone

  • What we have in store for tomorrow
